    Gentlemen,

Getting, my very first 'proper' pay check next week for about 600.
After putting diesel into the car and putting money away for my final year in college I will have about 300 left.

Just trying to get some opinions on what I could buy?
So far I've come up with a decent wallet and a haircut and maybe give 50 to penneys.
Probably the wrong place to post in but I didn't want to go to AH

Not everyone will always need a suit.
    Ive needed one once ever.

No point having something thrown in a wardrobe for years that you might not need for years and when you do it might not fit.

See? You needed a suit. Weddings, job interviews, formal events etc. At some point, the vast majority of men will need to wear a suit or have an occasion whereby a suit is the best thing to wear.

I'm trying to invest any additional funds into long term items lately....recently bought a table in ikea, memory foam pillow etc. - things that will certainly make my life a little bit more comfortable and items that I will have for a while. You might not be looking for stuff like this due to college but I'd still keep the long term in mind. Perhaps write down what items you would like short term and long term then work towards getting them.

If you're looking at your wardrobe I'd advise not to invest money on Pennys clothes - speaking from experience they're a poor investment as they won't last very long, their quality tends to diminish after a couple of washes. I'd suggest looking at the basics that you might need for college - a suit could be a good call for college balls & any presentations you might have to give. Otherwise maybe a shirt or two - I'd suggest Burton for this - they do very reasonably priced suits and I wear their slim fit shirts to work - they fit very well and look very well for their price (roughly €22 per shirt)

If you're heading into final year, you're looking down the barrell of hard work so I'd suggest investing in home comforts that you can enjoy after a long day - the whiskey bottle is a nice idea but odds are you might end up cracking that out during a session and have it gone in a night. I'd suggest a coffee machine if you're a fan - a good cup of coffee in the morning and during projects etc. can go a long way. Keep an eye on adverts.ie and argos - they always have sales on coffee machines I find.

Other than that I'd just say sit down and think about what it is you want - if you're in the fortunate situation where you don't feel you need anything then save the money and use it when you need it.

    Hold on it's €300...

Personally I'd be focusing on living between now and when you go back to college as opposed to getting rid of whatever excess cash you have on a weekly basis.

When you get to the end of the summer see how much cash you have and then buy yourself something decent. If you've €300 for the next 6 - 7 weeks you could have circa €2,000 by the end of the summer. If you want to blow it at the end of the summer then at least with €2,000 you've more options!

    Excellent suggestion.

The whiskey is a great idea in theory but there's a high chance that you'll drink it all some night when a few friends are over.

Can't go wrong with a suit either.

I'll be getting my first 'proper' pay check in a few weeks and high on my list of things to buy are a good pair of headphones. Well the Sennheiser HD-25s to be exact. Your ears are delicate and have to last a lifetime. Why subject them to the torture of a cheap pair of iPod earphones. I still can't understand why people still use those things. They're awful.

In fairness I'm far from sensible when it comes to money - the point I was trying to make is that €300 isn't a huge amount of money and it doesn't exactly give you many options on how to blow it.

At least if he had €2,000 he might be able to think of something decent to blow it on!

Personally I'd recommend keeping it and buying a nice watch.
