They're like reverse gremlins. Instead of becoming nasty when they get wet they become nasty when the weather is warm.

It's nothing new... there's been trouble in Portmarnock every year for the last 6 years at least. Seems the Gardai have cottoned on at last and are out in force before anything major happens. It's been suggested many times before, but there should be extra security on the DART etc around this time of year and when it's certain the weather is going to be good. Stop the little scobes ever reaching the area with their bags full of naggins.

It was very messy big fight on the road between some teen 'locals' and some teens who may have looked not so local to put it in a PC sense.....middle of the road just after we went through. Cops were on it fast though

I posted this earlier but in the wrong forum.
A friend just arrived from there about an hour ago and described about 50-100 youths in two groups(Irish and Africans) pelting each other with bottles with the Garda helicopter overhead and squad cars around which didn't intervene yet.(probably waiting on the Public Order Unit)

The beach was packed but many people(women and children) had to flee in fear at the drink fuelled violence and all headed away from the beach to get away. Asking onlookers he said some people said the trouble was organised on Facebook!

    On breakingnews now.

I went through the DART station northbound about 18.30. 1 garda on the southbound platform, maybe a hundred kids. Slightly outnumbered! But still better then previous years....

As thousands flock to beaches all around the country our very own Dublin specifically Portmarnock has decided to make it in to the news.

Gardaí are currently resolving an issue where a large group of youth are causing havoc in the area.

Irish rail had to stop its 16.14 Drogheda to Pearse station service after a group of youth were causing ruptions on the train.

It is believed the garda helicopter and a large number of squad cars have been dispatched to the area to bring the situation to a halt.

This can only be the result of excessive alcohol consumption mixed with a large crowed of youths.

    Video Footage

First sentence and last are opinion, middle bit essentially a rewrite of what was on breakingnews.ie and eircom.net's breaking news.

    Christ, that's depressing.

No, Irish teenage ****wits against whoever they happen to feel like picking on that day. Could've been directed at anyone, and it's not new.

Edit: I reported that video and comments to FB. Recommend others do the same.

I'll tell you why it started 6 years ago....

CIE basically closed the Darts from Dublin to Bray at the weekends for a whole Summer Season about 6 years ago for Line upgrades or something. Dublins Scobe population discovered the joys of Portmarnock and Malahide Seafront towns in lieu of Bray that year. They never came back, thank Fcuk!

The next generations/years of young scobes started going to Portmarnock etc like their older brothers and sisters did rather than to Bray like their mam and her new boyfriends did when they were in their teens about 5 years previously.

Bray Seafront in the Summer is now a gentrified place full of Local and immigrant well behaved families and no menacing atmosphere anymore now that its not full of Dublin Scobes.

The only reason Bray had a reputation in the past was not down to the locals but the bloody influx of scobes from Dublin every sunny day. Without them its a wonderful place to live any day of the week or any weather.

    A worrying, but unsurprising development.

Crazy riots in Sweden, beheadings in London, Golden Dawn and The Black Panthers in Greece and now race riots in Dublin.

    Interesting times.

A group of black lads fighting with a group of native Irish lads. What else would you call it?

A group of black lads fighting with a group of native Irish lads. What else would you call it?

A general melee of alcohol fuelled delinquents.
Some racism displayed by both groups but it was hardly a race riot or even gang warfare.

They'd fight just as much with kids their own colour but from a different part of town.

A brawl. Definitely not a 'race riot' in the usual meaning of the term.

Lot of assumptions in your post. The African kid who organised/started the scrap is on Adrian Kennedy now. I suggest you tune in.

It was a riot, broken down by racial ethnicity. Ergo, it was a race riot.

As has been said many times before , we really need transport police in this country.

If we had that there's a chance some of these clowns wouldn't have made it as far as the beach.

Maybe a few dog units at the DART station or patrolling the beach would also help.

I don't think they made any arrests today and it sounds like the Gardai were majorly outnumbered.

If they weren't living in the technological stone age they might have been able to get photos of some of the troublemakers and maybe keep a database of repeat offenders.

I think it needs to be treated the way football hooligans are dealt with in other countries

As it stands there seems to be no deterrent whatsover , so the thugs will do what they like where and when they like

    1) It wasn't a riot in any accepted definition of the term.

    2) Using 'ergo' does not automatically imply valid logical deduction.

    3) Are you saying it was organised by "the African kid"?

Some of the posters here (https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=591448344220837) seem to have been there or claim to have been. Tracking them down for interview shouldn't be hard, but probably not worth it in economic or police-procedural terms.

I used to go to Portmarnock beach in a groups of a hundred or more(im middle class before anyone gets ideas).

But I stopped going as it so isolated that if there is an issue you are stranded as you have to walk so far to the bus and there is only one bus out of it. Anyone who goes to the beach knows there is a trouble sometimes. It just good people doing stupid **** when drunk.

I find the beach in rush 10 times better and feel so safe there

Sick an tired of this pathetic behavior from absolute scum!

I'm a Malahide resident myself and the likes of these people flocked the malahide area as well as Portmarnock today, walking around with bottles and shouting at people! Now I'm no angel myself, but the majority of these people were out for trouble from the word go!

The Garda were slow(yet again) to react to the disturbances and if you have seen the video above, you will see them standing around taking pictures whilst a girl lies unconscious on the ground!

The worst thing about it is, nothing will ever change when comes to the Gardaí! Now not all Garda are slackers and I know many a dedicated Garda, but as a whole I find them an absolute joke and would find it very hard to lay my faith in them!

What's with the assumptions that anyone black is African?

We can all be as PC as we like, but I witnessed African lads being arrested. I can tell by their accents.

Not saying it was just them, because it wasn't. Plenty of Irish scum there too.

Some things just are what they seem.

For the record - I'm not saying they acted how they did because of their race etc...this doesn't even have anything to do with race (it's an existential circumstance), but rather a sad reflection on Irish society, given that everyone was involved.

If there were no black people there, the scum element would find a reason to cause trouble. And that's the crux of it.

A good friend of mine is from Scotland, her son, now 18 was born and raised in Ireland but speaks with a Scottish accent. Does that make him Scottish?

My elder sister was born in Ireland, I was born and we were raised in England. She speaks with an English accent. Does that make her English?

I agree, 100% with your last statement (after your edit).

A brawl. Definitely not a 'race riot' in the usual meaning of the term.

If it was white lads chasing down a group of black lads then it would be called racially motivated but when its black lads chasing some white lads down a beach its just a brawl. Why?
