Well you have to buy the fruit, so probably works out about the same.

Its 17 euro 50 cents admission to Bloom, when you factor in the cost of buying the strawberries.

I had a good stroll around Bloom for free yesterday.

Gonna be a cracker again this year.:)

Where can I get one of these? Will I not need the official brochure to present at the ticket desk? Can't see it on Keeling's website.

Anyone else think its really mean Bloom don't do concessions for the unemployed? Kids go free, overs 65s get a reduction, but nothing for the unemployed - only this morning I heard their PR on the radio talking about how gardening was becoming so important for many reasons during the recession. Its a pity their ticket prices don't reflection the fact there is a recession.

Why should unemployed get a discount?

I didn't say they should. However I'd much rather see an OAP get a discount than a dole scrounger tbh.

If you can point out where I said everyone on the dole is a scrounger, I'll cede the point. I didn't say that, however. But I will say that looking for discounts because you have no job is the work of a scrounger. If you can't afford it, don't go. Or get a job. But don't blame the world for not giving you a discount because you're unemployed.

So are stay at home mums & dads who look for discounts scroungers? What about someone, say, with mental health issues who does not 'work,' does not claim social welfare as they are not seeking paid employment & still looks for discounts? Is this scrounging?

What about the individual, trapped in a bullying relationship whereby they are unable to work because of lack of self-esteem - or because their partner prevents them from doing so? What about the recovering cancer patient, unable to make any claims - or the rehabilitated addict - or any one of the many 'unemployed' through no real choice of their own (whether they claim benefit or not)? .......

The world is not black & white.

firstly I'm not unemployed. to balance things. an OAP gets approximately the same money as an unemployed person.
its equitable to discount for both groups.

as for not going..the same could be said for oaps.

you also said people not some people which narrows the band.

gives NW a large sweeping brush and rug:)

WTF? So are you saying that Bloom should give discounted tickets to all these people?

Do you have a definitive list of all the people you think should get discounts? I'm sure Bloom would be delighted if you sent it on to them.

It was very busy yesterday on opening day.

One bit of advice...bring some sun cream and also bring a drink with you,as it will be hot, sticky and very crowded.

A cold bottle of water is a good idea to have with you.

Theres lots of freebies too, like yogurts, food, milk, fruit jiuces and wine samples.

Theres also 4 wheeled mobility scooters and wheelchairs available for free to any people that cant walk on their own and need assistance.

Hope you all enjoy Bloom 2013.:)

Tesco Clarehall and Artane have more Keelings Strawberries in stock.

5 euro voucher for Bloom inside each pack

The Tesco in Fleet Street had loads of the Keelings Packs yesterday afternoon.

Keelings are sponsering one of the gold medal winning gardens at Bloom this year.

    Its a small-medium garden.

Had to laugh at this bit though.......the Irish garden designer imported in her trained/pleeched apple trees for the garden from Holland.

So much or buying from an Irish supplier/nursery.

Yeah that was on TV last night, one of her pear trees had a broken branch and she was in a mad panic trying to get another one shipped over from Holland in time for the judges.

Got me thinking on how much of our plants are imported. I would of thought our climate would be similar to that of Holland so it must be down to cost.

A large amout of the horticulture industry in Ireland is supplied by nurseries and companies in Holland.

Cost is one of the issues. But surely for a bloom garden, she could have easily got some nice pleached apple and pear trees from an irish supplier/grower.

Pleeching isnt that hard a task to do.

I just thought it was kinda funny that Keelings (huge factory and fruit growing greenhouses in St Margerets) were sponsering that ladies show garden, yet she imported in the apple and pear trees from Holland.

I didn't notice the sponsors but yeah you think they could manage to find one tree in Ireland to complete her design. I can only think that she is a bit of a perfectionist, maybe even has a touch of OCD and wanted that exact type of tree.

Does anyone have more information on these mobility scooters? Do you need to book or are there plenty available? On the bloom website I only seen mention of wheelchairs being available.
My elderly mam would love to go but wouldn't be up to all the walking.
