It has encouraged me to watch Scarface, I am actually watching it right now, I never seen it before.

Have a look at the likes of http://www.codecademy.com/ and do the tutorials and lessons, and start looking to do some small personal projects. Will quickly find out if it's for you or not. Always though I'd enjoy software development, but once I started doing it in college, I actively hated it, so I'm now in the infrastructure side of things.

    Thanks to all for advice!

I've been using this site there, the sense of satisfaction is just lovely.
Doing basic html threw me right back to myspace, the obsession with having a cool page back in the day has payed of, I knew most of that section already. :pac:

    No, I don't.

Most of the time it's necessary for the smooth running of the forum. Some of the time, however, I think it's harmful to the spirit of our community. Them's the rules and we can't change them, but it's no harm to reflect on the effect they have on Motors. When certain posters are banned it changes things for the rest of us.

Because I've been around for a long time, I care about this forum, and I think that RoverJames made a valuable contribution to it.

The guy was banned multiple times before he got a permaban - you know this already don't you?

Anyway I believe you were told already where to bring it if you want to discuss it.

If someone is banned there's usually a very good reason. If someone decides to close their account or abstain from posting on boards that's their own business.

Personally I don't see the point in dragging it up or filling this thread with nonsense about it. That's hardly being a 'yes man'.

I think it's the very definition of being a 'yes man'.

Are we to understand that any reference to RoverJames's absence is itself a bannable offence? To quote Jessie Pinkman, That's messed up. That's Kafkaesque.

Not at all, and you know that.Bringing up why someone was banned, etc is.It's not fair in my opinion to be discussing people who can't engage in the discussion.

I'd imagine it's because he cares about the place and see that it's now full of yes men, Google experts and a couple of friends who treat the place as a 'Clubhouse'.

I could of course be drinking looney juice and be completely wrong. I haven't had the displeasure of a run in with anyone in a long time.

I've kept my public comments to a minimum on this as I fear the Chat thread privilege would be removed if someone thought it was too much work to mod again.

As said already, this issue is finished here.Start a thread in feedback.I honestly don't want to hand out bans or close this thread

I'm thinking of getting into software development.

Been trying to decide what to do in college for a few years now, this is what's stuck with me.

I'm in my 4th year of networking in DIT and I love it. This year is all designed around mobile apps and development

A good industry to go into :)

Do you do much programming / coding in that course ? I do c# and Mathlab in my course and although it's not too bad it certainly isn't my favourite part of the course. As already said Cian the best thing to do is do loads of coding at home and you'll quickly see whether or not you like it. All these kinds of I.T. Programming courses do seem to have good job prospects at the end of it all :)

Wow wouldn't be expecting so much IT stuff around here :)

Graduating from 4 years in DIT on Sat. DT211, computing. I wouldn't even worry about programming. A lot of the courses aren't even heavily based in that side of things. Getting to know UNIX would be hugely beneficial to you.

Haven't gone much into matlab but looks like I will have to for this surveillance project for the signal processing end of it. We have a good grounding in C, Java and now currently on C# for windows phones. Starting back with java again for android but using eclipse is a doddle so far.

For the first 3 years its mostly a Cisco certified course so routers, switches and wireless hubs?AP's galore. Also did XHTML, PHP, MySQL, Ajax etc for the web development/server/database end of things

By we both myself and barura are in the same course so he can vouch for it too :)

I did my theory as I had a "bike". That was six years ago and I never did the full test nor did I get it put onto my licence when I got my full so id say its long gone!

That sounds very interesting. The main reason we do programming is for maths really no app developing or anything fun like that :D I am doing process and chemical engineering so it doesn't really have a lot to do with I.T. Still I really like my course :)

Ah yes I am indeed! And this whole mess began with me giving you a vectra...!

@Limerick man, cool that you had it once! I'm sure many people have the free moped license from when they used to give it with the B license?

Ah I get you now! We don't do any maths yet it's an engineering course.... But all sorts of programs get created albeit simple stuff :)

Chemical engineering sounds like something I'd enjoy :D

Engineering would land you an IT job no problem! I think that any bachelors of Eng or Tech is a great start. A solid internship is what I'm hoping to get at the end of this year (3rd year) that leads into a job or at the very least get me a better looking CV than what it is now, which is mainly service industry stuff. :p

I lucky enough in the fact there a lot of jobs in chemical engineering worldwide. But good to know I know a few lads who have more of an interest in the IT programming side of it than the engineering side of it so I could see them getting jobs in IT. I'm hoping to get into oil and gas ideally or possibly pharmaceutical.
