Yeah I was always planning on bringing him in but thought Lukaku could do well against Norwich so didn't think it was worth a four point hit.

Totally. He has sometimes played out towards the right with Suarez but more often than not he has been in front of Suarez. Without Suarez he is of course out and out striker, him playing 'deep' is never on the cards in any lineup!

I brought him in after Newcastle game, although everyone was bringing in Lukaku. His stats are crazy, he just loves to shoot which is great for FF.

I thought he should score v Everton (in an explosive game, which failed) but was thinking more of QPR. Fulham returns were great but like Hogey said I was not expecting 3 goals.

As an aside Fulham's defence has been terrible lately which makes transferring in Michu attractive. Jol might just try and shut up shop for draw and Michu recent injury means I will go Coutinho. Could do both for a hit but don't think I will considering other midfielders I have...

Coutinho played in the hole behind Sturridge against Fulham which makes him much more dangerous for assists/goals

FWIW I was the same. I thought Sturridge would do well also felt Lukaku had a decent shout vs Norwich

I don't think anyone could have predicted Liverpool to do that to Fulham without Suarez , Gerrard & Agger .

And yes, you definitely need to listen to your own gut more, even if it means a points hit.
That was me that suggested it may be better to wait a week to see how liverpool line up. As a Liverpool fan I would probably have more understanding of how they could line up than yourself. Sturridge HAS played the odd time on the right when suarez played. At the weekend I felt there was a chance borini could start through the middle with sturridge on the right. Rodgers hinted at expirementing and considering he spent 10 milion on borini there was every chance he could have started. Gerrard was out and he opted to start shelvey over borini either could have happened. When Borini came on he played as the central striker and sturridge DID play deeper . Its unfortunate if people were considering it and didnt go with it but I think it was highly unlikely he was going to get a hat trick away to fulham. This weeks fixture was likely before the event to be the better option.

Exactly this. Plenty of times I have gone against my gut and gone with advice from here from fans of certain teams, but at the end of the day I made the transfer (or didn't in this case) so no point trying to shift blame.

For someone who I've been raving about since he moved to Liverpool I haven't had Sturridge in my team near enough this season. He's a quality FF player.

Didn't Rogers state early in the week that Shelvey would be given the two games to show what he can do in place of Gerrard? With that in mind, I didn't think both Shelvey and Borini away from home.

Sorry man, I apologise for saying it was bad advice, you could have easily been right in retrospect. I should have read your entire post rather than just read Rory's summation in isolation. Your reasoning was very sound.

Liverpool fan here too. I brought Sturridge in for the previous DGW but got rid of him quickly as his minutes were very uncertain with Suarez (although next year should be different). Those who planned to use Sturridge as Liverpool 'cover' and got rid of Suarez took a huge risk and that failed badly.

I only got Sturridge as Suarez is suspended and despite the fact that he can play on the right of a front three or potentially behind Borini (who is a fringe player anyway), he is certainly never a deep lying player in any respect IMO. Lets remember he was bought specifically to ease the reliance on Suarez for goals, which he is now doing!!

For GW36 for many people the choice was between Sturridge/Lukaku/Kone. They were all good shouts IMO although I did think that Lukaku was kneejerk at the time.

No point regretting these decisions, there was a good argument for any of them!

I don't think so mate, he was never a good call with Suarez around as Rodgers played one up front in many games and Sturridge had fitness issues when he arrived.

Next year should hopefully be different with Studge starting from the beginning and nailing his name on the teamsheet....All the recent goals aside though he can be a very frustrating selfish player and I think there are certain aspects of his game that need serious improvement

This counts for nothing, in terms of FF he is one of the best players this season. Try finding another player that has played over 10 games and has a higher points-per-minute ration. Since going to Liverpool he has been on fire, scoring almost 8 points for every 90 minutes he has played.

i'll probably bring in Michu for Yaya.

i'll risk City going to town on Norwich, seen as I don't think City look in the mood to go to town on anyone.

No worries mate. I gave my opinion on the matter before rodgers came out and stated he was going to give shelvey a run and just to clear up I only stated there was "a chance" he could play a bit deeper not that he would. I still wouldnt rule out borini starting this weekend ,rodgers spent a lot of money on him and in another meaningless game may have a look at him as a central striker. Having said that Im all aboard the sturridge bandwagon for this week as Id always planned as its a great fixture.

Fair point, but there was too much rotation and 'will he won't he be playing' for my liking. Meanwhile there was a whole range of similar priced strikers tearing it up and definite starters, in particular Lambert.

Presuming you had RVP and suarez would you have been comfortable having sturridge in your team regardless of rotation and regardless of how well Lambert et al were doing?

I wouldn't. Why did you not have him in your team from the day he arrived until now if you feel this way? His injuries were niggling at best and you could have used your bench.

Not trying to start an arguement so I guess we should agree to disagree on this one. I always play with a weak bench so dislike and avoid players subject to rotation, so our gameplay could just be very different!

I got in sturridge 7million in the jan wildcard as I thought if he played as much as suarez 10 million he would have been better value for money. Sturridge turned out to be very frustrating as he missed a couple of games through injury and then was dropped for a game or two. When on the pitch though sturridge has been a great option and consistently returned points.
Borini was also signed for 10 million to reduce the reliance on suarez . Personally dont think he ever will, but it was likely and would probably make sense for rodgers to have a look at borini now while there is nothing at stake. If both borini and sturridge are on the pitch together as happened on sunday borini seems to play further forward.

Nevertheless, nothing wrong with sturridge even if Borini was playing IMO. Borini was used out wide by Rodgers too on a number of occasions. I just don't see the Borini argument as a reason for not getting Sturridge, who was always expected for first 11 after his second half display v chelsea.

Anyway, this could turn into a liverpool thread so we should just agree to disagree on this one!

This is precisely why I'm annoyed, because I didn't bring him in. It's not just hindsight, I chose Lambert & Benteke ahead of him for the reasons you mentioned, but I think he was worth having even if he didn't play every game. Especially after I dropped RVP and Suarez got banned, he should have been straight in, but I got distracted by DGWers. He didn't come on for any one point cameos, so was actually more reliable and a better points scorer than Mata.

I usually have a strong bench (although not at the moment) so I could have afforded having a player that didn't play every week, but I didn't want to take the risk. Think I've played this season too safe tbh.

Whatever about next weekend, Today FM Sports News just said Hazard will miss Europa final.

I'm hoping that he misses next GW because I'm hoping it means Lampard starts.

Transfer is now done for the week. Boring as fook but I'm sick of doubts over a player starting or not. Need a squad with as many players as possible looking to start. Weird not taking a hit but too close.

With Ramires suspended I'd say Lampard playing on Sunday is highly likely depending on who plays tonight though I suppose .

I would imagine Hazard won't play next week but I'll probably hold on to him anyway. Not sure it's worth a 4 point hit to bring in Santi.

4 points separate the top three in my main league (I'm in the middle).

What do I do? Try and match their big hitters? One guy has Sturridge and Coutinho, Hart and Zabaleta. I only have Hart of these. A City clean sheet puts me behind him already, and a Liverpool party is even worse.

Instinct tells me to spread my risk and get Sturridge for Berbatov (to add to my RVP and Tevez -- the latter who would be gone as well, except a points hit could be fatal). If I captain Sturridge, I've hopefilly neutralised the Liverpool threat, and if he scores well, it'll take the tird player out.

Or do I just play my own game and try not to second guess?

Need some advice on this please. 15 points behind in my league going into the final GW and unsure what to do. Have one FT and don't really fancy taking a hit this week with so much ground to make up.

My main concern is not having a backup for Hart. I'm assuming Brian Kidd will play him but they owe Pantilimon a game.

Apart from that I could start with the team as shown above. But I have a FT and may as well use it. I deliberately waited until the Wigan result to see what I could do. Was hoping they get a result and then bring in Gabby for Villa as it would be a high stakes game. Now I'm thinking Sturridge, Podolski or Ade.

Sturridge could score high or do nothing. Both Podolski and Ade have something to play for but Ade is at risk of rotation.

Any advice appreciated. Need to make it count.

Bare in mind Giroud is back from suspension at the weekend so Pololdki could be pushed out wide.

I think Sturridge is better away from home. I have him and will captain him anyway. Liverpool at home is the outstanding fixture this gw.

You have just answered your own question there mate. Trust me, you need to focus on your own needs and block our everything else.

I was 120 points clear in my private league end of February and the nearest player started making inroads with some impressive captain returns. I started second guessing what he was doing over the past few weeks and the gap came down to 10 points. Last week, I took a 8 point hit by purely focusing on my own team and bringing in players I wanted for GW37. Now I am going into the final game week 30 points clear.

Just focus on what you can control and the rest will take care of itself.

Well his last two away fixtures would point at that but I think it's more to do with him playing well when the team plays well. Liverpool struggled away to Reading and Southampton and over those two games Strurridge accumulated only 7 points.

I'm leaning towards him at the moment; but primarily because even AVB probably doesn't know who he's starting on Sunday.

I cannot see Ade being at risk of rotation after scoring in his last 2 games, AVB will surely start with him up top and Bale in behind.

Would any of these be worth a 4pt hit? I have a feeling Kagawa could do well.

    Hazard to Kagawa
    Hazard to Michu
    Tevez to Sturridge
    Tevez to Carroll
