My beef with audio books is that its like listening to a performance- the actor reading the book aloud interprets it with his tone of voice so in a way it's a less pure reading than if you read the words for yourself. I don't know if there's a qualitative difference in reading versus listening, but I suppose if you're getting some exercise at the same time it would all even out somehow.

Oh it really hinges on the person reading, bad reader for me = read the book myself, fortunately these are read by the legendary roy dotrice :)

I'll be 're-reading' using the audiobook myself, although I did read the book the first time but I loaned it to someone so don't have it at the moment.

Ok, so far the discussion is going great in the have read the book thread, but there's not much going on in the first time readers thread, bar Rosy Posy who is posting.

Would there be any objection to going back to the original plan of just one thread? Merging the threads together, and discussing the chapter on hand, rather than having two separate threads with one going nowhere?

Yeah at the moment I'm posting in the 1st time reader's thread and then going and reading the other thread anyways!

I think this is a good idea just to get more people involved. Going great so far mariebeth well done.

Thank you. And it's going great because of everyone who's taking part.

Would it be possible for a mod to merge the two threads together so please? And to possibly rename the merged thread to take out the 'first time readers/have read the books' part?

If this was to take off and we end up goin through all the books it would be really useful if we had a link to the page each chapter synopsis is on, that way people could go back and see what people had to say on a certain chapter.

Just an idea, it would put a good bit of work on the op though so not saying it should be done or anything, just putting it out there!

I wouldn't mind trying, although that would mean editing my OP in each book thread, and can you edit a previous post at any time or is there a grace period?

ETA: just thinking it may not work, as I have my forum view set to 40 posts per page, whereas others may have it set to lower, so the page no's wouldn't work out because everyone will be different.

    Post numbers would work though?

That would work alright, but the problem would be in editing my OP to add this in.

That's fair enough I know it would take a good bit of effort on your part!

The mods might do it if you ask.
