I defy any first time reader not to read ahead but they only have to discuss the relevant chapter each day.

I think we need someone to put up a synopsis of each chapter though as well.

We could quote the synopsis from the wiki, or link to it.

I'm going to try and add a poll, just to see do more people want two separate threads for first time readers & non-readers.

Sounds good :) Although I reckon most people who will be starting from scratch will just race ahead, and we couldn't blame them for that :pac:

We can take it at a slow pace at the start but once people have got into the swing of things we can maybe revisit the speed if it suits people?

Count me in too! I'm well overdue a re-read so would be delighted for an 'excuse' :D

Ive just finished a full re-read - and god it was good!

Yeah this is a great idea, particularly like it if chapter synopsis are quoted.

As good as an excuse as any for a re-read.

Not following forward to reading Feast again though.

Will there be a thread per chapter like over in A Forum of Ice and Fire?

I'm bloody flying through the first book on a re-read but will go back to the start when this is being done. Really think it should be kept to one thread as messy as it can be. I think people might lose interest if it's a thread a chapter. At least if it's one big one you can jump in any time you feel like discussing a chapter you really enjoyed. The chapter when Bran is in his first dream is one of the best chapters in the whole series loved it.

It'll be a thread per book. It'd get too messy & busy for that. You'd nearly need a separate sub forum for each book if we did it that way.

A thread per week might not be a bad idea, so a thread for every seven chapters or so? Just a suggestion, I find big long megathreads hard to keep track of sometimes. epends on how many people are doing it i suppose.

The forum is pretty quiet once the show finishes, will be a great way of keeping the community active in the off season if it works out :)

Ok a thread per week sounds manageable. I'd set the date to start for the 14th so that's this Tuesday if everyone is happy with that?

I'm going to give this a try too, but I'm in the middle of reading AFFC so it may get too confusing for me.

    Will start off though.

Lets do it, will we do the prologue?

Lets do it, will we do the prologue?

I'd presume that's the first chapter, as long as any chapter really?

    Can't wait for this! :D
First time reader, have the books months, just didn't get around to reading them. :P

Yes, prologue is the first chapter, we can't skip it!

Great to see so much enthusiasm for this.

Got the book today...so hard not starting straight away. I sated myself by pouring over the maps. I have another massive saga on the go (The Mists of Avalon- brilliant read) so I'm going to stick to a chapter a day, I presume that the first book corresponds to the first season so the book reading won't interfere with the on screen action?

First season does indeed correspond with the first book, so it'll be awhile before we will be up to the current season.

I started the re-read about a week ago - so i'm 28% through GOT at the moment. Will definitely partake in this though.

I'm going to set up the threads tonight :) I'll just post a synopsis, because I might not be around much tomorrow to post.

Glad I'm not the only one excited :)

Yeah I'd like to partake in this aswell. Give me an excuse to read the books. Also reading Enders Game before I watch the film.

I love this blatant discrimination against those of us who only have the audiobooks ...... all banned !!!!!!! :P

Must check with those who have the text if my mp3's are in line with the chapters in the book.

Well at least this will guarantee the dog gets walked as this is when i listen to books :pac:

Yeah yeah lazy calex , audio books blah blah .............. it;s like someone is reading you a lovely story ............ now the science...... the human eye is lazy and skims through text looking for patters and does not read every letter or even every word !!!! where as the ear has to hear every word it hears, thats my excuse and im sticking to it :P

My beef with audio books is that its like listening to a performance- the actor reading the book aloud interprets it with his tone of voice so in a way it's a less pure reading than if you read the words for yourself. I don't know if there's a qualitative difference in reading versus listening, but I suppose if you're getting some exercise at the same time it would all even out somehow.
