Couldn't disagree more. I actually re-subbed just for the DOD stuff.

    We'll just have to disagree!

Glad you're enjoying it - I'm just cant get into some that is scripted yet set up to be off the wall.
    Doesn't seem genuine to me

From watching his stand up and appearances on various panel shows, seems very much in keeping with his comedy...

The lads are usually excellent but the David O Doherty podcast on pre-planned outrageousness is a bit of a disaster.

We get it David, you're wacky - scripted wacky.

I know they have a lot of gaps to fill but this was a poor choice

A poor choice to give an extra 20 minutes of content everyday on top of the daily podcast!?

Don't like DoD? (He's an acquired taste no doubt) Just leave it there in your feed. It's not like they're wedging him into the middle of the regular pod.

Listened to 5 minutes of O Doherty on one of his first shows. That was enough for me. That voice and that wacky nonsense was awful. Haven't listened to one minute of his stuff since.

I'm happy enough to get one free show off Second Captains on a Monday. For their non subscribers. With all the other podcasts i listen there's more than enough free content to go round.

Quite bizarre that people would take issue with bonus content especially when there is no sport to cover!
I mean they have even made it its own thing, they haven't had him on a guest slot on their usual pods.

    Bizarre indeed!

Take issue? You're allowed to not like something.

I'm not saying their careers should be ended and DOD should be put up against a wall

It just seems really out of kilter with the rest of the lad's stuff- most of their content is witty & subtle.

Yea. Each to their own and we all have different taste but jeepers that O Doherty lad what is the point? Out of interest how much is it to subscribe to the Second Captains and how many shows per week?

Ok thanks. My sports are GAA, soccer and snooker (and some golf) so i wouldn't be into listening to rugby or other sports. I'll stick with the Monday football show for now. Ken Early is a tonic.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,906 ✭✭✭Poor_old_gill

    It's worth a 5er a month for Ken alone

Yeah if Ken left I couldn't see myself being far behind him

For those who dont like the DOD podcast be thankful, I see Ewan McKenna has started his own podcast too, imagine if they carried that you would be permanently depressed and filled with conspiracy theories to tell your family

I know he gets a lot of bad press but i rarely ever read anything of his due to online pay walls so if his podcast is free i'll give it a listen before making any judgement on him.

I disagree with Ewan McKenna on more things than not, but his first episode was really good. His second not as much, I just wasn't interested in his guest, but I enjoyed the rest of it.

I remember Ewan was moralising about Kobe Bryant's behaviour after his death then he was shouting on the Kansas Chiefs in the Superbowl, a team featuring two players with questions of domestic abuse against them, he only acts as our supreme moral guardian when it suits him.

Go ahead, not for me though. Not a fan of his "facts" at least on Twitter people will call him out but on a podcast that aint goint to happen

Can we knock talk of that cretin on the head please? Setup a separate thread for him if needed.

I'm not sure what that means? I'm from Dublin and disliking him has nothing to do with where I come from.

I read on GAA forums and it seems its mostly Dubs that despise hin.

Fair enough. I've no real interest in GAA so my dislike if him has nothing to do with his criticisms of Dublin.

Fair enough. I've never read him before so know nothing about him bar comments off Dublin people on GAA forums. I suppose one has to decide for themselves rather than making judgement without giving someone a fair chance. So i'll give him a listen and see what his podcast is like.

I couldn't care less about the GAA and I'm not from Dublin and I think he's a pain in the arse.

Maybe its universal then. I actually thought he was a GAA journalist only. Obviously not.

Dont worry if its popular and you like it, he will attempt to gain notoriety by taking a position at the opposite end of the spectrum, some call it click bait journalism others call it being just a d1ck

Nobody here even has less interest in the GAA than Early. They’re basically a soccer podcast but it’s been better lately since the English premier league went on hold.
