I've no interest in hearing them interview current players. Players that are, 9 times out of 10, media trained to within an inch of their life.

They should cover professional gaming... maybe poker also

I'm just thankful they don't cover horse racing

    Or darts!

Wouldn’t mind the odd MMA but though. The lads seem very sniffy towards it though.

Definitely some disconnect in this thread whereby people are rightly criticising the quality of the content, but then someone flips it around and paints it as if those complaints are not valid because SC simply aren't covering what that person wants.

The overall quality of the pod has nosedived in recent weeks, it's as simple as that. They seem bored. The lack of enthusiasm from them is obvious.

Maybe it's related to their upcoming "project", only saying this based on that email asking about Mark Horgan, maybe the lads are working hard on other stuff and therefore can't put as much effort into the pod? There's been more political podcasts than usual or just shows based on only one guest/topic

I was thinking that too. Probably a TV show I guess?

Maybe Eoin is distracted with his Premier Sports commitments?

The Mark Horgan “working on another project” story is likely to be just a thing thrown out there to warn off questions about his disappearance.

He’s likely to be off work for the conventional reasons people have to take prolonged leave.

Why would they read out the email if he was on leave for something else? He's been out for a decent chunk of time, seems bizarre to bring it up if he's gone for another reason.

Because people would have been noticing he was gone and wanted to know what the story was. It nips the issue in the bud rather than facing mounting questions of where mark is.

Until, a few more months down the track, people ask what that project Mark was working on was?? You logic kinda reminds me of this:

Ok, so suppose mark is off due to a personal issue what would have been the best approach?

1- ignore the mounting questions from patreons asking where he is and hope they stop asking
2- air the personal issue on the airwaves to thousands
3- come up with a story that he’s working on a “project”

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,957 ✭✭✭Dots1982

Maybe this could do with being shut down as a discussion; No one bothers discussing Mark’s side project or absence on here until we know what it is in more detail.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,298 ✭✭✭RedRochey

Well they said that he still comes up with those sound pieces, he did that new succession one didn't he? So he's still working there in some form

I don't think they would have made up some lie about working on exciting projects when he's not

Number 1, obviously. If it is a personal issue, then it's no one's business but his own.

And besides, how do you know it was mounting questions? Maybe it was just one question, and they thought it was the perfect opportunity to mention the new, upcoming project.

This thread is becoming a caricature of itself. Before long we'll have private investigators following Mark's every move and fellas going through Ken's rubbish.

Dots, you should email the lads about adding a conspiracy segment to the pod.

Jesus that's taking it to extremes. Ha!

Miguel Delaney is my only complaint.

    Delaney out!!

I don't get the Delaney hate. He wouldn't be my favourite contributer, but complaints about him are OTT. The Delaney hate seems quite trendy in this thread. It all seems to be aimed towards his personality, rather than his content.

This thread is Johnny Giles and Miguel Delaney is Ken.

Defo think the standard has dropped over recent weeks but mainly the 3 lads dont always seem to be in together which is the main cause imo. I assume they're busy doing there various Xmas specials as well

It’s not necessarily an opinion that Second Captains people have. Boards posters come and go, as we know. You mentioned thenightman. I wouldn’t necessarily agree with anything thenightman says about Second Captains.

    ;)

This thread has taken a turn into the realms of the bizarre over the last few days.

Though, hand on heart, I don't think their content has been up to snuff for the last few weeks either. I know it can't all be eleven out of ten all the time, but I think the last fortnight or so has been weak enough. Hopefully it's just a temporary blip.

The Miguel Delaney hate isn't that logical IMO. Sure, he's not an unmissable contributor and he has annoying verbal tics, but he's not - to my ears anyway - noticeably worse than the other numerous bog standard football journos they regularly have on - but reading this thread you'd think it's absolute aural torture to listen to him. I don't get it. I find the likes of Marcotti far, far worse.

Like I said, he's not brilliant or anything and I wouldn't miss him if he never appeared again, but the level of pure dislike some seem to have to his contributions, when they are completely ordinary, is a bit over done.

It's been said over and over about Miguel, if you knew him solely from second captains then the indifference towards him would seem over the top. But it's hard to differentiate him from the way he carries on, on twitter. He's like a mini Ewan Mackenna, although I don't think even Ewan takes himself as seriously as Miguel does.

    I get that.

I'm not on Twitter, I understand about his reputation on Twitter, but I'm not too concerned about that personally. I only go by his contributions on SC and, to my ears, his contributions on SC while, admittedly, being slightly forgettable are also generally innocous.

It all comes back to Ken's "90 of the time it's the person who is saying it..."

It's his Christian name that really gets people's goat IMO:P

This is great stuff. You're actually answering your own bizarre question yourself.
Obviously, they would just say nothing if he was off for a personal issue he didn't want discussed!

How did you write down option 1 there, and still think it made sense to continue with the other two? :pac:

He really wants answers for a fella who said a page back that he isnt even a current subscriber!

Its like stalking your ex's Facebook to see what she is at these days

Hes an arsehole, his twitter feed is all the evidence you need of that.

Hmm, not sure that quote rings true in this instance.

He's an annoying know it all, people on twitter know him as this, so when he comes on the podcast and starts showing those colours then it's easy to link the two.
