Dan McDonnell does a podcast- LOI weekly. I’m not a LOI man but I’d listen because it’s good IMO.

    It's very good.

The people involved genuinely are enthusiastic about the league.

    Hope it continues next season.

Ha i wasn't actually serious about my LOI coverage post. If they haven't done it now i doubt they ever will.

I remember them talking about dundalk in the europa league and determining that they had the league sealed up for the next decade. Then this season cork win it and barely a mention when they did.

The fact they talk about baseball more than LOI is fairly bad form.

I don't see what they would lose by a 15/20min slot every week. It wouldn't alienate anyone, can be skipped if you weren't interested. I skip over 50% of their content

I thought Ken sounded a note of scepticism about the Dundalk to dominate theory, saying that the money haul could be quickly spent on the ground and other important stuff that wouldn't necessarily translate into a Harlem Globetrotters squad and Rosenborg style hegemony.

Yes he definitely said that. Unless an earlier time they took the opposite view.

Emerson said that a foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds. Much like Ken, I'd say the bold Waldo was caught contradicting himself from time to time.

It's probably my favourite podcast. I am a LOI fan but it is just really good fun and the lads on it are very likable. Even if you aren't a big LOI fan it is worth a listen some weeks. It is good cos the interviewers call players out on media bs answers. Eg. Johnny Dunleavy of Cork saying that "we don't really pay attention to any of what other people say about us", Dan interrupts and goes on a rant laughing saying "after the cup final every one of you called out the media and specifically mentioned people" and finished off with a laughing incredulous "that's absolute bollocks". Dunleavy had to have a little laugh himself.

Sounds like the LOI is well covered podcast wise then, no need for SC to venture into already infested waters.

Between the Rugby, anything female related, and the US version of Colm and JimJim, soon I'll be fast forwarding through more than I'm listening to.

Soccer is covered podcast wise, so are American sports, so is rugby. Might as well just cut it down to 5 minutes of the fair view every week!
I don't follow the LoI any more, but when they used to have Dan and Roddy on the radio it was always a good laugh.

I agree wholeheartedly with Ken on his policy of not making smalltalk with people who work in shops.

One thing that drives me mad about the podcast is when Simon (I think) plays the hotkey audio clips when the lads are talking. It really disrupts the flow of the show and often they'll lose their train of thought too. Feel like the lads themselves find it irritating too as it often leads to an awkward pause where no one knows what to say.

It sounded like Ken was getting a bit irritated with this on Mondays football pod. Simon played a lot of the Giles/Dunphy stuff where they talk about Ken and you could hear it in his tone that he was getting annoyed.

I wouldn't necessarily agree with anything Still Ill says about the Second Captains podcast.

Those audio clips are very annoying. That sh#te belongs on whacky morning radio shows to get everyone excited before the Friday Morning Fart Song.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,154 ✭✭✭✭Cienciano

1 in 10 of the audio clips will be timed nicely in a pause and work. But the other 9 will not be the perfect context, will be slightly too long and just won't work.

Mark Horgan's satire of Al Porter at the end of Mondays non football pod is the best thing I've heard them do in ages. " I need time away from the spotlight after decades(cough, cough) in the spotlight. Fantastic podcasting

All the audio clips/musical mixes are horrendous and irritating beyond belief. If they released an extra podcast without any of them I would be signing up. It's almost like they have a producer with too much spare time and the mixing skills of a seven year and have to shoehorn his ****e into every show. If I wanted to listen to crap music I'd listen to 2Fm, the whole reason I'm listening to a podcast is to avoid that tripe.

I think they can overdo it with the soundboard clips when the lads are talking. But I like the audiobeds (most of them anyway). I think they are well mixed as well; the evolving one for the Denmark tie recently was great.

The audiobeds are there as a break between different topics. I find them usefull as I can easily skip through a section that I'm not interested in. I can understand why they would annoy you though as they can be very long.

I agree with this, a really useful tool for skipping the GAA parts!

I like them for skipping parts too, mainly gaa.

My favourites are Steve Mclaren and Ken versus Keane. Always make me smile.

Is the 'scumbag of the week' turning into 'scumbag of the day'? Seems to be loads of them recently.

That is the most boring, predictable, condescending comment I've ever heard!

The song they use as the background to the Cantona audiobed popped up in my Spotify Discover Weekly this week. Matt Berry - Take My Hand, pretty obscure track I would have thought...
