What's wrong with "Justus"? Perfectly normal name, that?

That said, I think some parents are either had their brains surgically removed, or they really hate their kids.

I never got over the name "Chardonnay"... why would you name the kid after what helped conceive it?

Legally you can't name a child something that sounds like a title - judges are called Justice Smith or whatever so presumably Justus is too close to that. Same with Honour whiich is also on the list, despite Honor (without the U) being a common enough name

Those crazy kiwis have some previous in mental baby names ...
A nine-year-old girl whose parents named her Talula Does the Hula From Hawaii was put into court guardianship in New Zealand so that her name could be changed.

A family court judge, Rob Murfitt, gave the order after hearing that the child was embarrassed about her name and had refused to reveal it to friends. "She told people her name was K because she feared being mocked and teased," the child's lawyer, Colleen MacLeod, told the court

A few more zingers from New Zealand ..
In his written ruling, he said names such as Stallion, Yeah Detroit, Fish and Chips, Twisty Poi, Keenan Got Lucy and Sex Fruit were prohibited by registration officials. Others that were permitted included twins called Benson and Hedges, other children called Midnight Chardonnay, Number 16 Bus Shelter and, the judge added, "tragically, Violence". Another mother tried to use text language for her child's name, he said.

My own favourite is the guy who plays for the New York Jets, D'Brickashaw Ferguson. What sort of stupid name is that?

Some friends of ours had a baby girl recently and called her Lolita.

I didn't have the heart to tell them she was going to grow up to be a stripper.

Agreed, its like a cross between nice & noise, but its neither!

Was in the park the other day with the kids and got talking to a Dad about the kids names, his daughters name which was 'Ava'
How nice I commented, easy to spell, short, and vey memorable, just like the famous hollywood actress Ava Gardner I guessed - Wrong!
he then told me that it was an Irish spelling, which went something like Ailbhabh, which kinda killed the magic of the name for me :)

I had an Irish teacher who called one of his daughters ''Sneachta"!

When is the money (including lost growth) Michael Noonan took in the Pension Levy going to be paid back?

    That had me puzzled before...
I'm working with a girl who has an Irish name - both first name and second name - and she absolutely hates the fact that most people she will deal with on a daily basis haven't the first idea how to pronounce either name, since mostly they're not Irish.
And some will struggle with it even after being told the correct pronounciation, as they will look at the spelling and try and get their head around the letter vs the sounds.

Now, said girl had a baby recently, and named him something not even the Irish people in the office were able to pronounce straight away...

Now, she does speak Gaelic at home with her family, and I can understand she's proud of her heritage and tradition, but I couldn't help thinking she could have gone for something a little simpler for the sake of the poor boy. Or even given him two names, one Irish one English, so he could later choose for himself?

Anything ending in iqa or inta is never gonna be good. I heard a Danniqa recently. Don't even get me started on this pretentious Irish name nonsense. In years to come when those kids have to emigrate for work and potential employers can't pronounce the names, those CV's are gonna be filed under Bin. I've seen in when I worked in the UK, people would send in applications and if their names were unpronouncable they got binned as management didn't want to feel silly not knowing the name;)

I understand why Honour is on the list (they don't want people to have titles as forenames), but it's a legit and inoffensive name.

I remember seeing one of these lists a few years ago and there were twins on it called Benson and Hedges.

Always thought Nikita was a funny one. Russian boy's name becomes Irish girl's name because Elton John couldn't sing openly about lovin' a dude in the 80's.

Also Kylie. Nice bum, silly name.

    Yep, it's Haeven spelled backwards.
