    40 mins recovery

    Avg Pace: 9:18

    4.24 miles total

Recovery run this afternoon after getting back from overnight visit to the outlaws. Bit of doms in the quads for some reason, but apart from that just a bit of tiredness.

    Mon 16th Mar

    41 mins easy

    Avg Pace: 9:14

    4.4 miles total

Few loops of the pitches on grass, with a few strides thrown in at the end. Legs feeling very tired and quads still pretty sore. Not sure what that is down to as the route for the long run was mainly flat. Anyway a bit of rolling should help.

    Tue 17th Mar

    3.3 miles w/u @ 8:43

    Balbriggan 1/2 Marathon in 1:43:04

    1.6 miles c/d @ 9:46

    18 miles total

It's not often you don't have to drive to a race so was nice to just get out the door and run my warm up down to the start as planned. Disposed of the base layer when I got there as it was warmer than it looked. Was surprised to see Marthastew in attendance, but she came along with the star attraction for the race and was just out for a training run.

The plan for me was to try and run 7:50's and possible pick up a bit towards the end. Got going fine and after a mile or so MS joined me and we shared the next few miles together. Pace was just under 7:50 and everything was feeling ok. The top 10K runners started to pass after around 3 or 4 miles and I think I quickened up a bit here without realising it. Coming towards the end of the first loop I was conscious that I had to do it all again and all my club mates were doing the 10K. Up the hill at the finish and off I set again.

The hills were now taking their toll more on the legs and the pace dropped for a few miles. I was conscious that this was a session within a race so didn't want to red line it totally. Needless to say it became a good tough mental battle over the last few miles. I had hoped to take on a gel just for practice but the stomach was feeling like it wouldn't appreciate it so I didn't.

Kept it moving towards the end but felt pretty slow, the last mile was 7:49 so obviously it wasn't. Happy enough with how the session went. This is a tough course to get into any sort of rhythm and doing it on tired legs meant the second loop probably simulated somewhat the latter stages of a Marathon.

Finished up with a slow cool down home.

    Wed 18th Mar

    35 mins recovery

    Avg Pace: 9:43

    3.62 miles total

Legs feeling a little brittle especially around the quads and IT band area but not bad other than that. Bit of a slog on grass and just glad to do what was required to be honest.

Couple more easy days and will see how everything is then.

Easy run this evening with company which made the time pass quicker. Legs improved a good bit from yesterday. More rolling tonight. Oh the excitement.

    Sat 21st Mar

    44 mins easy

    Avg Pace: 8:48

    5.03 miles total

Friday was a rest day as I had to wear a heart monitor for 24 hours. Headed out once I took it off for a few miles. Run was grand and legs not too bad. Good enough to take on long run tomorrow.

    Sun 22nd Mar

    18 miles long run.

    Avg Pace: 8:47

The plan for today was 20 miles. Did 6 miles before meeting up with a few from the club who were doing 10. These went fine and I took a drink on before we got going. Miles were ticking past ok and the pace was around 8:40.

Was finding it tough after around 14 but think I was just looking forward to getting more fluids on. Back to the car and took on water and a gel.

Not sure what happened but legs never really got going again. The next mile was around 9:30 and had become a slog. Decided against going another mile and just slogged it out back to the car at similar pace.

Not sure what the problem was. Think it was probably down to dehydration more than fitness. Was a good bit warmer and I hat only taken on a small bit of water up to 16 miles. For someone that sweats a lot that's probably nowhere near enough.

Appointment with consultant tomorrow so hoping not to get any negative news.

Well folks things didn't go as planned today. Basically the MRI showed up of the heart wall which would be linked to the original ECG abnormality.

In real life this doesn't mean a whole lot, but when it comes to running any sort of high intensity or endurance type of running or exercise is out.

Absolutely gutted with the outcome but what can you do. My running days are over.

OMG I'm really sorry to hear this P. That's a very hard one to take. I know how passionate you are about your running.
    Mind yourself.

Sorry to hear man, that sucks. At least it's it's better that you found out this way and early rather than through experience.

All the best and take care!

Very to sorry to see this. Haven't read all your log so don't really know the history but it is was me I'd probably want a second opinion, if you haven't had one already.

    Look after yourself.

    Absolutely gutted for you P.
I was in a similar position not too long ago with Cardiac MRI but thankfully I got positive news regarding the running. I know I'd be devastated if it went the other way.

If it prevents an even worse scenario though, it has to considered in that context. All the very best with whatever you decide is the next step for you.

Sad news. It's a test a lot of people should be getting before embarking on high intensity activity.

That's terrible news Pistol, but if I were you, like Murph said, I'd be looking for a second opinion

Sorry to hear the news P. It must have been quite a shock for you! Is it just long endurance events like marathons that you can't do or are you not allowed to run at all?

Thanks guys for all your comments. I will still be able to do some jogging as the Cardiologist called it just nothing too long or intense. Luckily I wasn't really any good as a runner when it all boiled down to it. Time to dust the golf clubs off again.
