MK808 mini pc + Air Fly Mouse (cond from "Bargain Alerts")

The original thread in Bargain Alerts http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2056906441 got closed, so I thought I'd continue it here :P

So, there was a few people deciding which USB to LAN device to get, and I just thought I'd say I got this device on adverts, and it worked grand. Using it via a powered USB hub (which also has the AirMouse wireless thing in it as well). So I'd say go for the cheapest option, and cross your fingers :)

Nice one, I was just about to do the same myself seeing the discussion was in full swing. I've posted to the old thread on Bargains directing people here.

Some of those really cheap USB to Lan devices on ebay have a few spare USB ports on them too, well handy. My wireless home plug is only about 3 inches away from the MK though, so I'm not sure I'd get any better connection wiring it in. I'm only on 4mbits connect now, maybe when we get fibre it'll make a difference!

LIkewise. Had a Cisco AP right next to my NeoG4, but got the USB-LAN to ensure that nothing interfered (and because I could :P). Have another Wireless HomePlug nearby for other devices, though.

Good to see the new thread :)

Just a heads up, a friend has ordered the new quad core version MK908. It's on the way. When it arrives I will get my hands on it and post how it compares to MK808B.

At the moment I am quite happy with 808B, working out very well for me. Yet to try the USB to LAN. Although I dont have any issue with the wifi on the device as the router is very closed to it.

@the_syco - where did you get the powered USB hub?

Meh shed :P It's one of these, and probably won't be all that costly today. The "Trust" brand are your generic computer plug-n-play things, so just look for one that works on XP without drivers, and you should be sucking diesel :)

I don't use Netflix so I can't confirm if it works, but according to the guys at Geekbuying for version 4.2.2 you should install this version of Netflix:

Sorry I don't know. I assume that the updates and patches were only for people who wanted to update from 4.1, but that the devices sent out later were already updated with fully working 4.2.2. Sorry I can't help with the Netflix as I don't use it. Someone else must know...

    Hi there,sorry to ji-hack,
do any of you use a wireless keyboard with a trackpad to control the 808 as I find the airmouse fine for most things but can be a little finicky trying to use spotify and such.
Im thinking a full-size wireless keyboard would be the job..

No problem, as far as I know the 4.2.2 is a Beta version and the patch is for using the stick with HD, could be wrong, thanks anyway.

Not a hi-jack at all; this is a multi-issue thread for these little devices. Some of the wireless keyboards that people got in one of the other threads had a trackpad on it, so you should be fine.

Has anyone had any issues with the RTE Player within XBMC?

    Buggy.
    Multilple issues.
    Try updating your librtmp file.
Uninstall it and reinstall it (RTE player).

Trying to run Mossys 4od plugin and I think this is where it falls down.

I eventually got around to taking mine out of the box, and messing around some more. Antutu 5000. But with all the bugs on the current versions of Antutu i'm taking that with a pinch of salt.

I'm putting the Finless Bob on it now.
Sleep is back like a tablet!!!! Go into settings>display and you can turn on sleep!
    Now understand how this works
    a) If there is no wifi or ethernet connection the MK808B when it goes to sleep will power off.
    b) If there is a connection, it will simple go into low power mode and turn the display off. Moving the mouse turns it back on again

TP Link TL-WPA281 AV200 Powerline Extender with Wireless N Access Point

And as you need one at the router side, I bought these 2x AV500's.
    TP-Link PA411KIT AV500 500 Mbps Powerline Adapter - Twin Pack

I wanted the 3 plugs and I figured I'd go with the AV500's as they should be better for when we get fibre, but you can buy the kit of 2x AV200's (wireless and wired) cheaper.

Run that Antutu again and you'll probably get more. I've noticed on mine a few times I got as low as 5000 but then ran it again and got as high as 8400.

Is that sleep mode you mention only available on the Finless Bob ROM? I don't see it on mine.

Cheers for that, how do you find it for size wise and ease of use.I currently have the air-mouse and find it finicky after a few jars trying to get a few tunes going on spotify :p

Would much prefer something as close to a full-size laptop keyboard with a track-pad as possible than my current control.

Yeah, Antutu current version has a load of bugs in it, apparently.

Yep. It was available on the MK808 on one of the official firmwares, but it was gone in the next.
It's on the Kimdecent T21 and i think all the Measy's.

Here is Finless Rom if you want to try it. (Our model is the Genuine MK808B Original Model) - If it's taking ages to download, cancel and download again.
Instructions are inside it. Full LINK

I'm after been messing about with it and trying a generic rk30sdk firmware for Rockchip devices, and now i can't boot it up.. :( That'll teach me. I'm just after spending the last 30 minutes trying to fix it. I give up.
I'm just going to put it back to the Finless, as i found that very good.
But i hated the boot animation.

I might try the ICS MOD BY LEWY2004. Has anybody here tried it?
It has a native 720p version as well as a 1080p, and is supposed to be the best ROM for Flash.
Apparently flash on it works perfectly in all browsers, even Opera.

Same here - unreal warp speed delivery especially compared to Dealextreme ... still waiting for a Paddy's Day order - it's taken 40 days to travel 140KM in China - half the speed of a giant tortoise, three times faster than a garden snail though :pac:

It's the same stick as the MK808B, Different casing.

Sometimes the MK809II is sold as MK808B.

But that link is nearly double the price and i don't like those remotes at all. The touchpad is tiny. (Each to their own.)

You would get a much better quad core and better remote for that price.

    I don't think so.

To see the "Data" folder, go to settings in the default explorer (ES File Explorer), and show hidden files, make your Home Directory "/" (Without the quotes), and enable "Up to Root"

I honestly can't remember if i ever had to do it without it being rooted.

If you can't get it there with that, try Droid Explorer with it connected to the PC.

If they don't work then maybe try Root Explorer (needs to be rooted.)

The last time i did it was not that long ago, but i did have it rooted. It was a different stick, but shouldn't make a difference.

Do you have the drivers installed on your PC for it? (If not, Download Moborobo and run that with the device attached, it should automatically detect and install them.)

Once the drivers are installed you can close Moborobo.

Download UNLOCKROOT Version 3.1.3 (Direct Link) from this link. Extract and install.

This is the file that is downloaded with their downloader/wrapper/installer, but without all the cráp.

Enable USB Debugging mode on your device. You can do this by going to Settings > Developer Options

    IMPORTANT
You only get ONE go with the free version, per install, so don't close it once it is running, or you'll be asked to register (pay) when you re-open it. If you accidentally do close it, you'll have to uninstall and reinstall it.
(not really that much hassle, but...)

Once it is installed, and you are ready.. Connect the device, and run UnlockRoot Pro.
Remember when rooting the stick, On some devices you need to have one end connected to the PC (Laptop), and the other end connected to the TV so that you can see any messages when they appear.

Don't touch anything, i.e. - Keep the tab "UnlockRoot Pro" open, NOT "UnlockRoot Phone"

    Click "ROOT"
Then you may want to use RootChecker to check everything is okay/rooted.

Install SuperSU (It may be already installed)
Install BusyBox If you want. But it is a handy tool to have.

I just saw that now, when i was reading over. (I also saw my post, i was typing at a million words per minute, because i was freaked after installing the generic rom, thought i had wrecked the stick. :))

Yep, i think that's it, anyone can compile a librtmp. But no need to at the moment, RedPenguin is doing a good job of updating it quite often, he has a thread on XBMC.org, that is always up to date. Newer than the one in the wiki.

Also, if your using IrishTV, it's always best to download it direct from googlecode. I didn't post the link, as i'm not sure what the story with posting it is, It's available on AerTV, RTE.ie TV3.ie etc. But it's a weird grey area for me..
Anyway, it's easy to find the plugin video irishtv ...:pac: up to date.

The odd thing is, Moborobo says the status of my phone as "rooted". I may well be, as I am able to install stuff via SDCARD, as opposed to the Google play. I've installed "Root Explorer", and can access the "Data" folder, but it's empty, and doesn't seem to show anything (which is why I don't think the device is really rooted).

Ran root checker before, it said not rooted, when I ran UNLOCKROOT it said it was rooted, and did I want to re-root it. I clicked yes, and now root checker say it's rooted. Odd, to say the least!

Found it on HEANET's FTP, so I'd say it's the legal side of the grey area. Also, as it's only really designed to work within Ireland, I'd say the plugin is legal.

You do get used to the remote. It's growing on me a lot.
If the cursor seems out of wack, you can point it to the edge or corner of the screen easy enough and line it up. Turn off the mouse and flip it sideways, and use the arrows and return key.
I'm getting fairly nifty at the thumb typing too.. :)

I have mine powered from Sky Box. If you power it from TV, then it's perfect, because it should power off and on with the TV. The only reason i don't do that, is because there is no USB port on my TV :(.

I was using XAF build, and i found it a bit buggy, (Early-ish on, so it might be much better now) sometimes it would black screen, other times the Video Quality was very poor, so i changed over to the March 5th Full Neon version. I have modified it a lot for mine, but as a result, i have also created some issues. I much prefer using the external players with it.
On my sisters one, i changed it so that it Launches directly into XBMC, and from there she can run and download Android Apps from "Programs".
So she can still check her email and download apps, but she doesn't actually see Android.

I didn't realise there was a new XAF version out. I'll definitely be downloading it.. :D Might eliminate a load of my bugs..

Some TVs will not output enough power on the tv to power a usb hub aswell as the stick. The stick should be ok if it's just that. Same as raspberry pis connected to the tv.

If its MK808B you will not need any firmware upgrade. It comes with the latest version. Unless you want to install custom rom.

Just remember to set the date setting to auto (I think its the first check box).

I got it on http://www.xbmcandroid.com - follow the steps. Not sure what you mean by "browser to use on these"? If you mean the sticks, I use the default one (as it's handy) and Google Chrome (as somethings cause the default one to crash).

I think maybe XBMC has been watched by authorities for years, but the rate it gained new users in the last year, has made it a bullseye for many anti-counterfeit agencies.

Some files are stored across mutliple cloud/file hosting sites.
(If you check the back of many repositories you'll see one Movie may be on 40 links, and another 100 backups.)

Anyway. Not looking good. With the Android devices being one of the biggest sellers from China, and XBMC being one of the biggest reasons..

There is a massive crackdown going on at the moment in China and across Europe.

From last week (One site had 140 million users)
    http://www.techinasia.com/china-movie-piracy-websites-shut-arrests/

    http://www.chinaabout.net/largest-online-piracy-hd-portal-shut/

And rumours abound that they are 'chasing' three major ones (one is very prominent on XBMC, with a Swiss domain name. ;))

Last week it (The domain) disappeared for a day..
It's currently having issues ongoing. Not looking good.

Admin are telling people NOT to use it.
“Do NOT use ******* domain, it has been compromised,” warn the operators of *******.
So, in summary – ******** should be considered a fake/clone until further notice – logging in there should be avoided....

....The ******* domain is now working again and appears to display the correct ******** site. However, on closer inspection it appears that ******* now redirects to a clone of ********, not the real site.

The Pirate Bay was removed from Google's front page in March, and last week they switched from Sweden to Iceland/Greenland because of the same rumours. They were right. Heavy action being taken by European authorities. They seem to be going all out.
Greenland Domain is about to be seized.

    More news..
In what is being described as the biggest domain crackdown since US Homeland Security seized more than 70 domains in 2010, Italy has targeted more than two dozen BitTorrent, cyberlocker and other file-sharing sites. The Public Prosecutor of Rome has ordered the blocking of Rapidgator, Uploaded, BitShare, NowVideo, VideoPremium and many others, warning that he will progress the action internationally in order to properly seize their domains.

There is much much more going on, but way too much to put here. You get the jist.

    BTGuard needed more then ever.
