Connect FM sounding great again today on 107.1 with 80s music - some Dublin airplay hits not just Now80s on repeat!

99.5 Non stop music with no IDs

    98.4 The 90s Network

    1206AM 80s music

ABC (the 80s format dropped) was not audible earlier (Woodtown )

I wasn't listening to any pirates yesterday, but I did hear some on Saturday.

As regards Connect FM, the signal was very strong around Dublin on Saturday. Is that the same Connect FM that ran a few years ago on a few different frequencies? It does seem to be an 80s oriented station except that I have heard the odd non 80s tunes on occasion.

That unidentified station (which I did not hear this weekend) on 99.5 FM appears to be connected to various oldies operators, including those behind Retro FM and the stalled medium wave pirate Energy AM (is it ever coming back?).

I heard a bit of The 90s Network on 98.4FM. Its reception is variable around south Dublin.

1206am is Radio Daniella. Were they playing their own music or was it a relay of another station?

I heard Dublin's ABC on Saturday. The frequency is 93.3 FM by the way. It looks like they decided to return to FM after a number of years being online only and after flirting with FM for sister station ABC 80s. It started as a pirate around the mid 1990s.

Was Retro FM on over the weekend, particularly Sunday? Its most recent frequency has been 94.3 FM.

Was Chill FM on 87.6 FM this weekend?

Why use 93.3? .2 spacing to RNAG from Kippure seems a bit dicey?

Maybe they are trying to stay away from BBC R Ulster on 93.1?

CONNECT came on Friday at 6pm went off Saturday night, back on Sunday till late. Didn't get anything on MW this weekend.

Coast FM has only rarely gone missing from 1494 kHz since I reported it on 02 August as Coast Gold FM. Strong on SDR's in the West, and I can hear it in Dundalk.

93.2 had been used by a number of stations in the past so it was a surprise when ABC started using 93.3 , but the signal gets out surprisingly well .

It's unlikely, given the location that BBC Ulster on 93.1 was a factor.

I have to say that the signal is patchy around south Dublin as you go further away from the city centre.

    Excellent tropo in recent days.

Yesterday afternoon, on hillside in Co. Cork approx 4-5 miles inland, with a clear view out to sea in direction of SW England, and northwest France, with a portable DAB/FM radio standing outside the car, I was able to get , all be it with breaking up audio , reception of a French DAB MUX From Brittany, on 9A, or 202.928 MHz

    https://www.google.com/maps/@51.8699545,-8.1344901,3a,75y,113.36h,74.71t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1skHB8yEyf5C23AsMIud1yGA!2e0!7i13312!8i6656

A couple of stations had 'BRETAGNE' in the name as well as others such as SUD Radio, RADIOMARIAFR, ALOUETTE, CHANTE FRANCE, BLUE BREIZH IZEL, FG. DJ Radio, CLAZZ, RADIO BONHEUR

Cornwall 11B MUX was stable when I briefly listened, DAB reception was shortlived because batteries ran out. On car radio (DABless), weak Spanish stations could be heard on 87.6 and 106.8

DAB Reception was markedly better at this elevated location (seems a bit under approx 300ft/100m above sea level) , than right bedside the sea (about an hour earlier) - beside the sea with little height had only briefly broken reception of 11B came up on a manual scan (not full scan). However more UK FM signals were audible on car radio right on the coast due to shielding by surrounding hills of many Irish signals.

sitting in the car at Windy Arbour Luas stop and some oddities include MWR from Mayo on 96.1, Lyric from Mt Leinster (normally shielded from here) as well as big signals from BBC Cymru and BBC Scotland

same location and similar signals today. Manx Radio on 97.2 having a scrap with that weird out of band 97.3 TodayFM frequency.

With the absence of ABC on 93.3 R na G were taking full advantage and romping in from their Monaghan (I’m guessing) site.

Today FM 97.3 is from Greystones and is normally okish around here..101.8 from Three Rock is ropey even in Dublin with half decent LOS to 3 Rock.. and I find it to be a little quiet on the modulation end.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 163 ✭✭DavidJC

Technically splattering into 93.5 if within close range.. the upper band of the signal would be close.

RNAG is unlikely to complain as not likely there are many listeners..

97.3 is stepaside iirc , it's to cover a null from 3 Rock apparently.…cynics might suggest it was a way of reducing the frequencies available in Dublin for new services.....

101.8 is 2kw from 3 Rock but it's not a RTE NL installation hence the modulation issues over the years. However it covers Dubln well alongside Kippure on 100.9.

ABC don't cause any interference to RnaG , it's a low power / low height installation.

Just to keep the thread somewhat active ….

Yesterday, Sat Sept 21st 2024 : Radio Daniella on 1206 Khz (248 Meters MW) playing a recording of George Long (Henry O'Donovan - RIP) on the FM pirate Capitol Radio, from Feb 1984. Heard in the south Dublin area @ 18:00hrs BST

A very nice touch, as Henry had died in Sydney Australia on Fri Sept 20th, following a brave battle with cancer.

I heard continuous '80s music without any id later on yesterday evening on that frequency.

I noticed a curious thing earlier this evening. I heard a jingle like "Energy AM on the weekend" on 99.5 FM. Was Energy AM on any medium wave frequency as well?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,900 ✭✭✭Infoanon

Energy has not appeared on AM this year AFAIK, 99.5 often relayed Energy sourced off a stream and I assume that's what you heard.

As an aside Nova news at 2pm featured a single news story (about old clothes !) Followed by a sports news promo for Classic Hits......

Connect sounding great again. , some great 80s airwave hits though it's hard to forgive the version of Alohaville forever young that aired shortly before 5pm today.....…

I have often heard automated oldies music, and/or streams/relays of Energy Power AM in the past, on 99.F FM. This is the first time I heard the Energy AM id without the corresponding AM frequency.

I happened to hear Connect FM that time as well and I switched stations when I realised that it was a different mix of the song!

I also heard that remix but remember it fondly from when it was out. In fact it seemed to get played more than the 7 inch at the time (were the stations looking for more tempo?)

Did catch the 1988 version of “I can hear your heartbeat” when I’d rather the original version but it ain’t my station!! Am enjoying it though

Freedom FM now transmitting in multiple areas of Ireland for start of month long temporary licence

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,614 ✭✭✭✭dxhound2005

Not on 104.2 which I think they used in the past for the North East. It is used by 8Radio and Xmas FM. In Dundalk I can hear Freedom on 105.2 from Dublin.

1494am (relay of CoastFM in Spain) good and strong just outside Wicklow town.

Radio 105.7 (RDS as Rad1057) powering in here too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 826 ✭✭✭TheBMG

87.6 outside Wicklow town is currently blasting out some weird US evangelist.

haven’t heard the likes of it since 1984 when I miscued the Bob Gass tape in Radio Dublin 🥲

Is that the same outlet as the long running UCB outlet in that area?
