First rabbit with my fathers 22lr marlin lever action it was a young rabbit at about 80 yards I reloaded and hit another one beside em but he got down the borrow we seen alot of old rabbits to so in a few weeks when the young ones are out the place will be crawling with em. Im seriously considering selling the shotgun and buying a rifle anyone any opinions on if I should or shouldn't switch?

It's hard to advise you on what to change or not to change but if it were me I'd keep the shottie and try get a 22 also

Can't have two because of the more than three requires a house alarm rule and my father has a rifle and shotgun

do you intend to eat the rabbit? Its a pity you left the second animal in pain....

Well the one I shot was too small to eat but I do eat maybe 2 out of every 3 id shoot. Well there was no way of getting an injured rabbit that could of went in to any of 5 or 6 borrows its not like I just left him to suffer.

I don't think he "left" it intentionally

I love the lever action you have there.

If that's the case I'll be alot happier because I can't make my mind up here. Can someone clarify the law here please ?

No it is to do with how many guns are in the one house so that if someone breaks in that they can't just steal 5 guns. You are legally required to have an alarm for that many guns in the house.
I think it is good to have these things anyway because not only could it possibly prevent them from being stolen or the fact they see the alarm they might not even try, but if they do take them you can prove that you did everything in your power to prevent it.

Then you/the house/home requires level three security as Juice1304 outlined.

why dont you just get licenced on your fathers rifle and that way you get to keep the shottie

I was more so wanting to get a rifle of my own so I wouldn't have to worry about damaging his pride and joy and so we would have two rifles when out after bunnies

Gripp has a good point. Why not go for the license on your Father's gun anyway, use it, and if something comes up later then you simply transfer the license onto the new gun, and address the security issues then.
