In an update posted on the official Facebook feed of the Anne Frank House, it emerged that 19-year-old Bieber visited the Amsterdam museum on Friday night, with his entourage, and wrote: “Truly inspiring to be able to come here. Anne was a great girl. Hopefully she would have been a belieber.”
The comment provoked dismay on social networking websites with many criticising him for what they regarded as a crass attempt to associate himself with one of the faces of the Holocaust. 'Belieber' is the term for devoted fans of the Canadian singer, the majority of whom are teenage or pre-teen girls.
