    Lads,
For anyone interested, there's a company in the States, opticsPlanet.com that is having a sort of "sale" on NightForce scopes.

As you may have noticed, NF never puts there scopes on sale. However, opticsplanet is offering $100 gift cards on certain models.

That's a good chunk out of the $165 needed for the NF rings.

Just thought you may like to know.

Last time I tried to buy a scope off them I got slapped in the face by the ITAR fish. Just the other day, ITAR popped up again in relation to scope rings.

Not a bad deal, if you're in the UK. Normal price is £1,890 which is €2,250. So £1460 is €1,700. So it's a £430 (€550) to UK buyers, but you only save €100 compared to Irish prices.

Including shipping the saving would be between €50-€70.

True, but its still E100 saved. If buying from opticsplanet (Cabelas or similar) you get 25-30% on top of retail
price for all custom charges. I doubt its going to work out cheaper

It goes back to my thread about competitiveness.

It takes a 25% sale for the UK prices to be on a par with ours.

As for the states. Leave all the "i don't get caught" talk aside for a minute. Say you have to pay full whack. So you pay $1890 (€1,445). VAT is 23% so add $435 (€333). Add duty of 4.5% for most optics so that's another $85 (€65).

So now you pay $2410 (€1,842). No that's only fthe price, tax, etc on the scope. Total tax & duty is paid on shipping too (God bless our Government). So allowing for say $50 shipping add another €50 (to include taxes.

So total price is around €1,900.

Fouund this on another website that sells rifle scopes and such.
It seems that in some places in the US they dont want to know or the orders are maybe too small to be worthwhile ,or they just dont know what the legislation actually is.So it might be worth mentioning this little ditty in future if you are having difficulties??

    Export Licensing

Certain products such as rifle scopes, optical sighting devices (red dot, holographic sights, and reflex) and laser sights destined for certain countries may require an export license from the United States Department of State or United States Department of Commerce.

Please click here to refer to the USDOC's Commerce Country Chart to determine if you will need an export license. However, for your convenience, we have listed the countries below that do not need a license or are eligible for an Strategic Trade Authorization (STA) License Exception. If you do not find the name of your country on the list, it means you would need an export license.

I seen MidwayUSA had NF scopes on sale as well.
I hadn't realised they were a lot cheaper in Ireland than the UK.

Is there a reason for this Cass?

Up to a couple of years ago Nightforce were costing in the region of €2,250. Same if not more than UK prices. They went down (either due to demand, amount of sales, manufacturer price reduction, whatever), and the reduction has never been "undone".

As i said above the price is better than the states (if taxes are taken into account), and it's not just Nightforce. The thread i linked to above shows we are becoming more competitive on a lot of products. Personally i believe it's a direct result of dealers trying to meet/match or beat internet prices.

IOW where there were huge mark ups on products, and the dealers were happy to take 400, 500, 600 euro on top of the product price. Now they are copping onto the fact that if they make half that profit, but increase amount of sales they will do just as well.
