Tow-bar too for drawing home turf.

Perfect for towing. Loads of torque very low down in the V8. A modern diesel wouldn't come close to it unless you rev the bejaysis out of it (over 1500 rpm) :D

I presume so too. So just under 100k miles...

owner has moved on (literally), heap of road tax, no mention of test (so it does not fit the stringent bangernomics criteria here - wink wink) but if it checked out and was honest, it'd be worth the €55 for the ticket.....looks clean.......i like these...

While this car is within bangernomics it has that dreadful 1.4 engine which would rule it out for me. For just a few quid more you could get something that is far less likely to give you hassle and serve you better in the long run.

    Unbreakable, unstoppable, and some tax...

With a haggle this comes in under bangernomics budget.. A very rare occurrence for these.. And it even looks ok

Is it just me, or the prices of 99-01 cars are the same like last years and 2 years ago.
To consider one (especially Vectra or Xsara) this has to be around 750 - 800. Not 1000 or 1150...not to mention 1300.

I have noticed some cars have dropped in price. A fair few 406's now under the 2k mark, last year 02-03 examples would have commanded between €1500 and €2500. Needless to say I gawk at them everyday :pac:

Mostly older stuff holding well. TD's haven't depreciated much, still at the €500 to €800 mark.

You'll always have the looneys asking too much though :p

What worries me is that more "modern" and much newer cars are coming into the territory, so owners/sellers have to take this into account. I know sometimes it is ok to pay more for older cars as it is really condition based and some of them may be more reliable. But - after reading another thread - someone considers 00 Polo 1.4 (private sale) for 1400 as a bargain???
Granted it has low mileage, but at this age does it really matter?

I guess my point is that if you can have 2003-5 for 1800 (or less), why bother with 99-01 for 1300. And i am not into plates - more of a quality and general look of the car generally.

I guess it depends on personal taste and values. Some people value a newer reg over the condition of a car. This would be a bargain to someone out there (and a prime candidate for clocking!) due to it's year

You do need to ask why such vehicles are so cheap though.... (apart from the obvious they're sh*te)

A list of 06 vehicles that fit the criteria for example

That laguna looks uglier (imo) than before facelift.
The rest is, well, not so modern.
I said they are coming into 2k territory, not that they are here - some of us wait for that 04 BMW

On the other hand there has to be bottom price for car that is driving and has current nct. If I ask for 00 cars to be at 800, then 95 cars would have to be free

Saying that, if you buy 01 Vectra for 1300 now, you will stay with it forever (or scrap it). Just my opinion. Going back to older parts of bangeromics to see what was on year ago, and I am pretty sure they were pretty much same cars for same money.

May I ask a question on the Lacetti above.....well not that one but the Lacetti in general.

Are they that bad ? I'm actually considering one for a second car (for herself), a run around, bringing kids to/from school, supermarket run etc, 10000 km a year at the most. Lots of them are in Bangernomics territory, so given the type of use I've in mind what would be so bad about them ?

Is it actually possible to have an 03-05 car for under 1800 in good condition and which isn't that cheap on account of having a terrible reputation.

Agree though - older cars do seem to be holding their value - id say part of it is down to people having to drive older cars due to lack of funds (recessions :() - and then when that car breaks and they needs a replacement - it needs to be cheaper.

Hence people are buying cars in the 2 grand bracket - who would never have being buying such cars before. That means increased demand imo - meaning firmer prices.

Its ridiculous though to see Carismas at 2 grand for a 02 .

That 01 Vectra below - 1150 euros - get a bit off and its nearly half the price of the 02 Carisma.

So if it all checks out - is that much worse a car then a Carisma - I know that model Vectra didn't have the best reputation when they came out first - but that's a late model.

all re; the Chevy/Daewoo , yes fugly, cheap, but if you keep them serviced (thats the key on these gm rip off's) they offer you reliable enough cheap no frills motoring.

Thanks, I'd heard they need to be serviced regularly which wouldn't be a problem, Yeah they are fugly but they look alot better than what she is currently driving.

So what should one look out for on them, I presume service history, head gasket issues, what’s the interval for timing belt changes?

they basically have a GM copy engine in them, so keep up the servicing and belt changes and you'll have no massive headaches. Yeah, check for the HG, and I'd want paperwork to show oil changes etc.

It's still an 06 reliable car for 1950, I've driven them and they have and opel feel and represent good value.

An equivalent opel is light years ahead of one of these. As dgt pointed out above people will look at the reg and think it's better than some higher quality older car for the same money, but in reality it's not. even a car from early 00's such as a mazda 323 is a much better car than these.

LOL at the daewoo having an opel feel to it, sorry. having been in plenty, i have to say the 1994 onward model astra feels a much more solid, well constructed car than those lacetti's.

    http://cars.donedeal.ie/cars-for-sale/02-opel-vectra-diesel/5234357

First of the Vectra C models. the older, better engine, not mental mileage, looks like SXi spec which has cruise con, air con, auto dimming mirrors etc. admittedly not that much tax or test but a few months test and a few days tax :P. good buy imo.

edit : if you motorcheck 02-wx-5825 (the reg of that vectra) it comes up as a peugeot 307
