I remember that, hope he had a good time with it :D

I'm sure he knows this, but he can NCT the car early in a fortnight. It will help his sale no end if it is NCTd till Aug '14! :)

Just an update on the brothers bangernomics XJ6. He took the ad down as there was very little interest despite a few price drops and put it through an early NCT today without doing anything and she sailed it. Back tyres might need to be sorted soon but other than that she's solid. He has decided to keep it for the summer at least but I can see it being in the family for the next few years now. A few other family members have their eye on it. Myself and my father didn't want him to sell it anyway :P

    Another successful bangernomics story :D

Ad saysing it was NCTd in Feb rather than suggesting its tested until next year tells me it was tested late and there's probably just a short test on it. Still, it did pass four months ago.

i know the tax is steep but what else would stop you? are they hideously unreliable or good enough? nearly have the wife convinced that we should!

well i've over 1100 miles done since i bought this, nothing has broken or stopped working, it wafts around in near silence every day, its averaging 33.1mpg:P loving it so much i'm actually gonna tax it for 6mths instead of the 3 i originaly planned on. so glad i didn't go down the diseasal route

    Nice one :)

You might want to think about that one again. There is nearly no saving taxing for 6 months compared to 3 months

There is a significant saving taxing for a full year compared to either 3 months or 6 months

Then again, there is a risk involved in taxing for a longer time. The car could be off the road, you could sell it, etc. and your "investment" in the tax is gone :)

I tax for 6 months because it's handy. Hate seeing the three month disc fly by and have to replace it again. For convenience sake and because I haven't the money for the full year, I go 6 months.

Also if anybody wants a ...

    - Red
    - Two door
    - Turbo
    - RWD
    - Manual

car for under the bangernomics budget then look no further...

They are a fantastic little car. I sat it one once and it's definitely not for people my size :p:o

On a good note, even the poorest motorist could afford to tax it for a year!

Last time I taxed a car took me about 3 minutes from the chair I'm sitting in now. 2 minutes of that was digging up the insurance cert. That wasn't very inconvenient, was it? :p

A 2l car costs 710 to insure per year, 788 per 6 months and 800 per 3 months. €77 is a nice saving for 3 minutes hard work ;)

Why is that? Manual not as good as the Auto? I don't really much abut Volvos

Ah I have no idea, can't make out any of that..

Ah ya, leather would be a nice extra indeed.

Fine modern looking car right there. Doesn't look as little as its worth.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 59,578 ✭✭✭✭unkel

    My thoughts exactly.

The 407 is by no means a great car, not even a good car compared to most of its competition. But presumably it has a full service history (typically so for a one owner car kept for 8 years). It was tested recently. Little to go wrong with the petrol engine and if all electrics work, it's a lot of modern car for the money.

NCT'd and seems like an honest enough ad.

    2.0 non-turbo - serious anti-climax.

Perfect example of a sheep in wolfs clothing :(

i'd drive it. minus some of the tacky stuff.

in one hand, paying 2.0+ tax and skyline insurance i'd want the turbo.
in the other, initial purchase price much lower than a turbo model

Is that the really crap 2.0? I can't see if it has 4 or 5 studs, on phone. If it has 4 it's the really crap one

I know it's not strictly Bangernomics but with a full service history and two sets of wleels (at least one set with good looking tyres (are they metric tyre size though?(can you put a bracket in a bracket?)))
