well lads did everyone get post from the IAA last week?

I didn't get anything from them yet. Was it good news or bad news?

To all who have received an offer best of luck.

I would advise to read carefully what is being offered and know exactly what no pay while training will mean for you.

Been asked to attend FEAST test at end of February at the IAA headquarters on D’Olier St. Anyone else going ? I applied through the IAA website in early January was surprised to be called so quickly.

Anyone got any feedback from the 2013 programme?

Hi. Yes, I got an email yesterday inviting me to attend the FEAST/DART tests The Times Building on D'olier street on Feb 28th.

I was excited when I got the email as I only applied last week. Even though I knew the training allowance had been scraped, it really only sank in after reading the email. I think I'll attend the tests anyway but not a hope in hell I can move to Shannon and live on fresh air.

I wonder is there any chance BTEA would cover this, I've been on JA for over 2 years but I have a part-time job. It doesn't appear as though any outside employment is possible once training commences.

How do you feel about it all?

Right well not the same day as me then as I'm in earlier in the week. I'm guessing they are taking small groups of people at a time as last year I believe the tests were conducted in the Gresham Hotel.

Funding is not covered under the BTEA scheme. Unlikely to change.

How do I feel about it ...well I'm looking forward to the test...If I pass great and If I don't , well , I'll know I'm not suitable but worth a try as I'd love get through.

Not this time. Just had to meet the minimum educational requirements.

There were aptitude tests last year before the FEAST test to filter applicants.

I will be totally ruling myself out if I can't get something of BTEA. I have some savings but nothing that would cover moving to Shannon and living there for 2 years. An €18K+ training allowance to €0 is gut wrenching.

Yes totally understand that. I will have to raise the funds too.

If no filtering is needed either there is not a lot of interest or the lack of a payment while training is having an affect on the quality class of the candidates.

I had a huge interest in this programme until I just read about the €190,000 fees if you don't work for 7 years. Why is it so much for 16 months of training? You could put 3 people through pilot school for that price.

Doesn't bother me I'd be happy to work at least 7 years for the company and probably a lot lot more.

No guarantee of a job for successful applicants.
If you successfully complete the Programme, including attainment of an ICAO rating (licence) you may be offered appointment as an Air Traffic Controller

I just read about the €190,000 fees

You don't have to pay back training costs in certain circumstances.
Students will incur no liability for training costs in the following circumstances:

Where they have their training contract terminated by the Authority
Where Students terminate their training contract prior to the achievement of a rating
Where Students are not offered employment with the Authority

IAA website, additional information SCP program
Why is it so much for 16 months of training?
I may be corrected on this but the IAA no longer has a training operation of its own.
It has contracted this out to a joint venture called "Entry Point North"
All private companies basic aspiration is to make a profit hence high fees.

Has anyone replied to the email to confirm attendance for the tests at the end of Feb. Close of business on the 10th is my deadline. Is it just to get an idea of numbers or by confirming to do you have to pay a fee or something? I still haven't made up my mind.

I'm sure if there was a fee payable we would have been notified of that. I'm guessing the numbers will be small as from the replies here it seems the test is being held over a number of days suggesting small groups at a time.

Both of the above from the "Weston" thread.

From other sites I believe that the IAA had a retirement bubble which is possibly sorted by now.

Can anyone state or indicate what the employment prospects in Ireland exist for the new trainees?.

I believe the controllers at Weston are not employed by the IAA, so this has nothing to do with the IAA's need for ATCO's, the IAA only supply's ATCO's at the 3 state airports and the Weston thing is just rumours.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,112 ✭✭✭notharrypotter

the controllers at Weston are not employed by the IAA,
Correct they are not IAA staff but from the rumour posted there may be qualified controllers readily available soon from there.

Also when Galway closed the Controllers there were made redundant.

My query remains dose anyone have any info regarding the likely employment prospects of the trainees who have just started?

And from the looks of things they are possibly sourcing a new batch too.

It's quite a quick process then. Is it true there is no allowance/pay to the students in training..
