The big surprise tonight, is the SF/FG marriage before the people. That must sicken the LP.

Strange days indeed, in the words of John Lennon.

Martin forgetting that there is one well known Northerner in the Dail - Gerry Adams.

Was it wise of Vinnie to write this, just before he's supposed to be an "impartial" chairman in a televised Seanad debate??

    http://www.irishtimes.com/news/politics/oireachtas/don-t-allow-the-coalition-to-get-away-with-its-cynical-seanad-campaign-1.1546388?page=2
It was unwise, I don't think that he has shown any bias tonight though.

Not for long after he allowed his sex abusing brother work in youth clubs.

Also, 100 TDs is MORE than enough to run this tiny island on the western periphery of Europe with a population similar to Manchester.

The politicians in this country think they are running the USA or somewhere.

    And Jim Morrison ;)

^^ It's the quality of the posts that stand out for me, not the quantity :D

    Here's to many more, Harry

Remove the Seanad and one of the means for a citizen of this state to run for the presidency is removed.

    Is that not hearsay??......:)

I'm not on the abolition side of this but I think Mary Lou is really wiping the floor with McDowell.

You don't need an Irish President in a United States of Europe

I see there is a movement in Canada to abolish their useless Second Chamber too.

It's an antiquated colonial throwback from when the concept of Universal Sufferage was laughed at.

The Seanad has never stood up for the people when we needed it. They never will. Time to do the right thing and consign it to history.

The role of Enda Kenny in this debate.

I loved his magician act of disappearing. Just a pity he doesn't do it permanently.

'We're going to discuss the role of Enda Kenny in the referendum campaign after the break'.

    Good luck with that Vinny

Enda Kenny, the Invisible Man

When Brian Lenihan Sr lost his Dail seat in 1973, he got "elected" to the Seanad. In 2002 his sister Mary O'Rourke lost her seat in the Dail and was appointed to the Seanad by Bertie.

I think I'll be voting Yes.

I heard it's being turned into a nightclub for the TDs.

FG demanded a more professional standard of lapdancing after the Tom Barry/Aine Collins incident, so they brought Peter Stringfellow in as a government advisor.

Eamon Gilmore is a lot of things - and at least one of them begins with 'C'...

    A communist though? Really?

It might not be a bad thing to retain it with 30 Senators IF they had to be elected and not appointed by the Taoiseach, Universities etc. Putting their own men in there just doesn't sit right with me.
Elected Senators or no Seanad at all.
