Niggeloh Rifle Sling Review.

Meant to do this a while ago, but never got around to it. So no time like the present.

When i bought the RPA (.243) i got a rifle sling with the deal. Now i have a half dozen rifle slings so did not look a gift horse in the mouth, but at the same time was not "excited" by having another one to hang on the wall (where most are after i buy them).

One my first trip out i never changed the sling, so said i'd try it, and if it was no good i'd get rid of it or change for one of the ones i have at home (Hillman, Uncle Mike's, Butler Creek, Browning, Remington, Allen Co., etc)

Got to my first permission, and threw the rifle over my shoulder. Immediately i noticed how comfortable the sling was. Other than the weight of the rifle i did not get any pressure on the shoulder even though it is quite narrow at approx 2" wide. Off i set. The lane to the fields is about 400 yards on gravel. You can loose your footing easily enough and are constantly stepping from spot to spot to avoid potholes, and pitfalls.

During the walk i noticed i was not holding the butt stock of the rifle. Something i normally had to do with other slings/rifles. Now the RPA is excellently balanced so i thought due to the Savage, and Remmy being barrel heavy that the rifle was the improvement, and not the sling. When i got to the end of the lane i climbed the first 5 bar gate. Other making sure the rifle did not "unsling" itself i did not have to adjust it once on the walk down or the climb over. It also did not pull the shoulder of the jacket towards my back as some non slip slings do.

It also has an excellent automatic "recoil" feature. So when the rifle is slung over my shoulder the strap adjusts out on the bottom of the sling. When i un-shoulder it the strap automatically recoils back into the padded section of the sling meaning i do not have to fuss with a loose strap flopping about. The underside of the strap is well padded, and has pretty much the best shark kin, non slip surface i've seen on a rifle sling.

The RPa, as sad, is much better balanced than my other rifles so the sling in conjunction with the rifle was making me wonder if it was simply a good match. SO i stuck the bipod, and mod onto the RPA. There was a certain amount of "tilt", but the sling done it's job and held it in place. I then put the sling onto the Remmy. She is heavy barrel, an synthetic stock and without the mod is barrel heavy and pulls backward when walking. The Niggeloh held as though it was the RPA. I tried the Remmy with the mod (T8), and no difference.

    So to summarise the features:
    • Well padded
    • Automatic strap adjustment
    • Non slip (100%)
    • Comfortable

I'll be honest when i seen the brand i'd never heard of it. I done a check and they are available, but are not cheap. They start at £35 and go up to £79. They come in an assortment of realtree, leather, manually adjustable strap, automatic adjustment, neoprene, etc, etc.

However i would recommend them to anyone that is tired of paying €20, €30 or €40 for straps that continuously let you down or don't do as they advertise. Pay once, and get it right.

Looks a good strap. I have one of their split straps for over both shoulders. Build quality is excellent on it but the split straps are too thin for the weight of the particular gun its on.

I have one myself. Great job. It is way more comfortable on a long stalk than all the rest I have.

I also have the rucksack type. I like it but don't know what to make of the velcro strap for around the pistol grip.
They do a wider strapped version now. Call tital I think.

I use this as well as the Niggeloh sling ,It comes with a quick release belt.

It is one of the handiest things i have ever bought ,it holds the rifle securely on your shoulder ,so no movement when getting over gates or bending down ,with this holster you are totally hands free which is great when lamping alone ,so you can scan with one hand and hold your shooting sticks in the other , works out at bout 50 quid delivered.

I have used this for the last 2 seasons for carrying my 8lb .308 and it is very good at taking All the weight of your rifle off your shoulders and onto your waist.
