    probably legally dubious?

As far as I know, even giving them away is illegal.

It's been a few years since I've looked at the legislation in question though, so I could be wrong.

not only illegal but disgracefull what kind of money hungry f;cker is trapping and selling magpies just for the record i dont agree with the sale of any quarry or game, including fish. its a sport and a privalige, when money and personal financial gain is involved all sense and respect eventually goes out the window,,, just look at dog breeds and dog breeding..

Are they protected now, and as such fall under section 45 of the 1976 Act.

Meaning no selling, trading, etc of wild birds unless done under a license issued by the NPWS or other relevant department.

whats your opinion on this? If someone wanted a call bird I would just give it to them

I think it's poor form selling them, if you give one away, you'll always get one in return.

Under the derogations to the Birds Directive they can be trapped and shot if causing damage, the same as certain crow and pigeon species.

I don't think so. I think he is spot on.

Plus it's illegal. Simple as really. So all opinions or morals go out the window. It's not allowed.

    I keep birds myself
You can only sell these birds unless aviary bred and must be closed rung
    with the correct size ring.
