A few words from Liam Cameron today

The history of their old men is a big draw and wanting to see the end of a ridiculous unbeaten record end is another pull.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,348 ✭✭✭ebbsy

Eubank has lost most of his big fights.

    Benn is a drugs cheat.

Where would the winner go ?

    There is no jeopardy here.

the fight is just a huge cash grab for eddie to recoup the reported 1m he lost on the last event before his prospect popped for ped's on two separate occasions, the fighters are getting looked after financially because turki called involved and made it a riyadh season event. winner goes nowhere and the loser may as well retire, but wait there is a rematch clause.

Liam smith v McKenna should be worth a watch and im surprised to see smith is 5/4 with McKenna 8/13

I know Beefy is past his best, but he surely beats McKenna?

I'm not sure about this one. McKenna is obviously crude and untested, but I'm highly surprised Smith is fighting again, I thought he was completely done. He didn't have the legs to carry him against Eubank. I'd possibly lean towards McKenna here, but I wouldn't be putting any money on it. Definitely interested to watch though.

I’ll be tuning in and hopefully seeing Benn take a sustained beating and then stopped.

i think Smith would be seen as a gatekeeper now. You beat him you get bigger fights.

He looked desperate against Eubank but Eubank isn't terrible.

He looked like an old man in that fight though.

I can see a handy points win for McKenna. He just needs to keep his chin down and guard up and he'll outscore Smith easily.

The fight on Saturday is a circus and potentially a dangerous one. Eubank Jr isn't even allowed rehydrate properly, Benns team hoping he's absolutely dead at the weight. Neither guy will do anything major in the sport. 154 is a stacked division, easily 15 or more lads that beat Benn between 147 and 154. Eubank Jr has failed every time he's stepped up. A meaningless cash grab.

The undercard has a few interesting fights. Think Smith is completely done, McKenna isn't brilliant but he should have enough to win. I think the upset if you'd even call it that will be Glanton beating Billham Smith, Ramirez beat him pretty badly, I'd say it's taken a lot out of him.

Of course it's a circus. Their dad's are the reason this is happening and if they are smart about it they win one fight each and get mega money for the rubber.

would Eubank’s best win be degale? Smith rematch? I don’t really care that much who wins but I reckon they could serve up something decent. Hearn adamant the 2 year wait favours benn but these clauses are rich coming from a drugs cheat. Doesn’t seem confident. With their fathers the guy who held his nerve more so came out on top, even if the draw was very harsh on Benn. This time round Eubank appears the calmer man.

Two absolute dickheads, but I’d love to see Benn spark Junior. I think he will. Junior will be drained, stale, slow and weak at 160

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,284 ✭✭✭fitzparker

Agree with this, Eubank will try keep the distance and pick benn off, he won't engage, but once benn gets inside the guard, Junior is getting sparked

A double KO is ideal but I see Benn beating him

Had to laugh at Eubank going "uh oh" when Nigel Benn was on about Conor bullying World class light -heavyweights in sparring.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,222 ✭✭✭✭OmegaGene

Almost as good as the sparring stories from Bakole

Eubank down 500k now for failing to hit weight, he needs to ring Turki to cover that bill

Oooh for 0.05 of a lb is very tight.

    Thats a real shame.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,348 ✭✭✭ebbsy

Eubank and Benn have agreed to a rehydration clause meaning neither is able to add more than 10lb in weight between Friday's weigh-in and a check weigh-in on Saturday, which will take place between 8 and 9am on the morning of the fight.

So what happens if they fail that one ???

I think Eubank will win this one handy. I think he will catch Benn at will and stop him around 8

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 59,678 ✭✭✭✭walshb

.05 of a lb? That’s about 23 grammes. Did he weigh this much over naked? Must have, because a pair jocks much heavier than 23 grammes

Edit: he was .2 lbs heavy first go and .05 lbs over second go

  • Site Banned Posts: 1,331 ✭✭✭Yvonne007

It's about the weight of a couple of CD's or 3 pencils.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,785 ✭✭✭Dick phelan

I don't understand why Eubank has agreed to all these stipulations that seriously hamper him. Benn really needed this fight too because he wasn't really going anywhere fast and no way of earning anywhere near the same money. Whatever about the weigh in, Eubank is a fool to agree to the rehydration clause. To be that little over the weight tells me Eubank is absolutely dead at the weight, he can't even take off a few grams more

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 59,678 ✭✭✭✭walshb

The 160 lbs weight is not a real barrier or stipulation, as Eubank’s last few fights were at 160 lbs. He’s struggled hard this time to make it

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,785 ✭✭✭Dick phelan

I'm more concerned about the rehydration clause. That was a bad error from his team imo

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 59,678 ✭✭✭✭walshb

yes. That’s a tough one.. but it’s still 10 lbs. Not huge, but not tiny. I reckon years boiling to just making the weight is going to be an issue..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,273 ✭✭✭✭normanoffside

it must have killed Eubank to get down near 160 if he couldn’t even attempt to get the last few grams off. If he had any sense he won’t even try to make the rehydration limit and just pay that fine too. I am starting to think Senior was right all along, he is putting his health in extreme danger.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,785 ✭✭✭Dick phelan

I think he could look like Dela Hoya vs Pacquiao, completely drained and sluggish. Starting to think more and more Benn will actually win

he tried to get it off but he was completely drained, he couldn’t even get his top off, for some reason he’s posted his attempt to cut the weight online where he’s in a sauna suit on a bike etc

Seems like himself and his team miscalculated the cut this time, he’s being financially compensated for the rehydration clause and he agreed to it, maybe he’s backed Conor to win at 2/1 🤣 circus of a show tbh
