And we're back! It's time for the proper stuff and there's no doubting the biggest game of Round 1. I'll be at Subi tomorrow to hopefully see the Eagles dish out an early season hiding to those purple pretenders.

Of course, the first game is tonight with Adelaide and the junkie Bombers going head to head. Hawthorn/Geelong next week is another juicy prospect.

Weird to have a split round to kick things off.

Friday, 22 March (8:10 pm) Adelaide vs. Essendon AAMI Stadium
Saturday, 23 March (4:40 pm) Fremantle vs. West Coast Patersons Stadium
Thursday, 28 March (7:50 pm) Carlton vs. Richmond MCG
Saturday, 30 March (1:40 pm) Western Bulldogs vs. Brisbane Lions Etihad Stadium
Saturday, 30 March (4:40 pm) Greater Western Sydney vs. Sydney ANZ Stadium
Saturday, 30 March (7:40 pm) Gold Coast vs. St Kilda Metricon Stadium
Sunday, 31 March (1:10 pm) Melbourne vs. Port Adelaide MCG
Sunday, 31 March (4:40 pm) North Melbourne vs. Collingwood Etihad Stadium
Monday, 1 April (3:15 pm) Hawthorn vs. Geelong MCG

Was at AAMI tonight and it was not pretty. Crows started well and blitzed the bombers during first 15 minutes. Then it all started to go wrong!!!!!

This Essendon team is a really good one. They are tall and extremely fast. whatever they have been taking, I want some for the Crows!!!

I believe Essendon are a top 4 team this year. Crows to struggle after last years highs. Played dreadfully tonight and the better team by far trounced them. 5 year old daughter loved it!!

Great opening game to the season. The crows looked flat. The bombers look very dangerous. It seems the off season scandals galvanised the team rather than causing any rifts. Good on 'em.

Looking forward to heading up to the Derby today. Go on the Dockers!

Sorry, completely n00bish question here, but are the times in the OP Irish time or Australian time?

(Looking to start watching more AFL than just the highlight shows this year :))

Local time. SO Perth is 8 hours ahead of Ireland, Melbourne time is 11 i think?

The Western Derby today starts at 8.40am Irish so perfect for a Saturday morning.

Great day here for it, clear skies and only in the early 20s weather wise. Buzzing for it now!

Just home, christ that second half from the Eagles was poisonous! Worst effort since the spoon season.

Credit to Freo for taking their chances but they weren't anything special either, just capitalised on the countless mistakes :o

Gutted that Le Cras fractured his arm, he'd be going well and kicked a beauty in front of our end. Hopefully he won't be out for too long.

Here's my view of the disaster that was anyway -

Disaster of a game alright. The third quarter was a killer, just could not get the ball out of defence, and Freo had us hemmed in the forward 50 for nearly the full duration of the quarter. Some of the bigger players we expect more from, in particular Shuey, just didnt perform, or werent allowed, whichever way you look at it. Embley was terrible when he came on too, really needed a spark, and he was awful. Better I suppose to lose early and know your flaws, but never good losing to Freo.

Great game yesterday. First half was a bit nerve wrecking, I thought WC were better up to half time, but Freo came out firing in the third, WC didn't have an answer. Great win. Looking forward to watching it on tv today :)

Sad to see LeCras injured in his first game back from injury though

Had to laugh at Ryan Crowley trying to bump Adam Selwood after kicking a goal. Fail.

at least the comms called it right, if you go instigating contact and you get injured, its your own tough luck.

Who is likely to win it out this year?
Have the Swans a good chance again after signing Tippett?

:D That third quarter showing was tear inducing alright!

Still, at least it can't get any worse.

They have as good a chance as any, I suppose. Personally, I do not believe Tippett is the answer. Overrated player who has only played 1 really good game (preliminary final last year) in the last 2 years. Has had more concussions than good displays.
Bit of a poseur who may not get the time and space he needs to become a hit. Hope not anyway.
And I am not a biased Crows supporter!!!!!!!!

Has T Walsh featured for the Swans in the Nab Cup?
Really big year for him. I guess you could say that every year but if he doesnt get a good amount of games this year or gets injured it will be very hard to see him making the breakthrough. Looked v promising last year. He just needs to get a run. Whether Sydney was the right move is another question. I see Hanley has got a lot of praise again in the Nab, seems to be improving year on year.

Yeah, he played NAB cup but I didn't see much of Swans in preseason. He didn't do anything to warrant any particular praise or criticism in reports so I'd imagine he was average enough.

Hanley is a gun. He has an amazingly good footy brain for a guy that has only been playing a few years. He seems to get massive respect from his teammates as well, anytime you see a Lions player interviewed they seem to mention him as key player, Browny in particular seems to really rate him.

No Vlaustin or Rowe. not a good start for the Dreamteam.

Looking forward to the season to start properly though. This split round thing sucks balls

Understatement of the year! I've changed my Supercoach more times in the last week than I used to change my Fantasy Premier League team before the season!

I have now what I consider a really strong team that I'm happy with but that will all change tonight when the teams are names.

Teams are out meaning I had to do a last minute patchwork job on my Dreamteam
