Subject to terms and conditions though. You will have had to have topped up by a certain amount before they will unlock it for you.

What phone?? some can be unlocked for free, depending on your model, or at very little cost, using your IMEI, on eBay....

I did this and no probs....cost me €6.27 for a Huawei Ascend g300!!

Are you sure it is network locked?? My new Sansung SIII from eMobile was not SIM locked at all....there are codes to check.

Am I reading you right? Your Dad got his Voda S3 onlocked to o2? WTF did he do that for:eek:? He could have just got it unlocked and it would have worked on any network., Thats the whole point of unlocking;). Next time he offers you a phone, grab it off him and get it unlocked yourself.

EDIT: Are you absolutely sure its locked to O2? Did you try another network sim in it - even your Dad's Voda one?

    Hi Florintina....

Not sure fully what you are talking about there, but can I advise.....

number 1, check if your phone is actually SIM [network] locked.

This is easy on the S3, just means inputting this code from your keypad
    *#SIMLOCK#

    or in numbers
    *#7465625#

you should get back a page, which looks something like this....

    2012-06-03142136.png

If you get this, you are fully network [sim] unlocked and you can use your phone with any network sim.

If inputting the above code does not work, you might get a USSD code error, download this app

    https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lidroid.sgs.secretcode

which can easily do it for you...

the app just contains loads of Samsung codes, and the one you need in the list is "lock status".....don't bother with others, as some could be a little dangerous!!!

If you are locked, i.e. Network Lock shows [ON] there is an app to Network [SIM] unlock.....[there is a small payment within the app, not sure how much or how you pay, but you may need not to.]

    https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.spocky.galaxsimunlock

Try the above before shelling out any more money!!!

    Cheers.

***Edit**** The dev of GalaxSim Unlock has a full featured fully free version on XDA for members. [thread below, you will need to download the apk file.]

    He says this:
    http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1846451

    *** Download ***

GalaxSim Unlock is now available in the Google Play Store here. It's free to download, with in-app billing to unlock, for what I believe is a fair price. Other functionnalities (device/lock information, nv error detection, efs backup/restore) are free to use. I've made it that way so that people can see if GalaxSim Unlock is able to sim unlock their phone before buying.

The full featured version available here will remain totally free (I might update it in a few days to match the market version features). If you want to support my work, it's up to you to donate (or use the market version to stay up to date). Do not redistribute this version without my consent.

Try the Samsung Secret code app first...then we will see. OK?

    It's here....https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lidroid.sgs.secretcode

    and it looks like this....

    p8QHlMECWgcuHPhKYdic7DzRPhWElreS06B5wgIJlE6XqNW_VzZAIquiDMV93CEqx-8

You just scroll down, until you find the "Lock Status" option, click on it, and you should get the page shown in my post, with the Network Lock info displayed. OK?

You sign into Google play with your Google account details...

these should be already on your phone, and you should have Play as an icon on your phone....like so:

    Play-Store-icon.png

Really sorry Florintina, I dunno what else to say!!!

If you are using an O2 SIM in this Galaxy S3, which your dad got from Vodafone, and had Network/SIM unlocked, as you say in your OP.....

then your phone is unlocked, no question!!!

You should be able to use a SIM from any Network......that is if all the above is true!!

I was just showing you a method to check the Network Lock Status of your phone, without needing to put in another Network SIM, either with the code, or the App, as I showed in previous posts.....

apart fro that, there is no more I can do, only wish you all the best....

and thanks for making an old man happy by calling me "hun"...;)

    much appreciated!!

I asked you to put your Dads sim in to check if it works in the phone on 16/03/13:). Did/can you try that? If it works, then the phone is unlocked.

    Brill.. all good so.

With Tesco, for €25 top up PAYG...

You get €50 worth of calls plus unlimited texts to any Irish Network and unlimited mobiledata... and unlimited calls to any Tesco Mobile.

It is on the O2 Network..... and I think you can tether for free.

I think it's a good deal all round.

    See below...

Good to see you're sorted, eventually:). Now as Irish has indicated, you can try Tesco, or indeed any of Tesco,Lycamobile, 48, Three. Stay away from O2 or Voda. They have plans that are suitable for people that have more money than sense;). Three have a very good sim-only offer for €20.33 a month. With any network, you should get a sim and test it out where you work and play, so as to avoid any nasty little problems that might crop up.

I wasn't sure whether to start a new thread, so am resurrecting this one...

I have an Alcatel tablet (no sim) from a friend that has been locked and the PIN is unknown.

The owner has not signed into their Google account on the device. I have performed a factory reset, but the device is still asking for the original PIN.

Is there somewhere I can bring the device to unlock it and roughly how much should it cost? It's a recently purchased device for about €100

    TIA!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,417 ✭✭✭griffdaddy

Are you sure you've done a full reset? A quick Google gives the steps below.

    1. Turn your tablet off.
    2. Hold the volume down key.
    3. Turn your tablet on.
    4. Press the volume up key.
    5. Using the volume down key, highlight Wipe data/factory reset.
    6. Press the power key to select Wipe data/factory reset.
    7. Press the volume up key.

If that doesn't work maybe see if you can change or reinstall the ROM on it (assuming the bootloader can be unlocked)

  • Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators Posts: 11,905 Mod ✭✭✭✭igCorcaigh

Yup, a full factory reset was performed. I'm assuming the existence of the PIN request after reset is meant to deter theft. It's not my device, so I don't want to jailbreak it.
