Ugh, hate AI'ing cows now, it always bloody well means the cow calving at like 5am Christmas day! I had a big enough heifer repeat afew days ago, decided not to risk leaving her off for another 3wks and got her done, but I'd prefer to avoid the hardship usually!

Nothing ever served here in March. Just don't want calvings or young calves over Christmas.

It got here but just running out of steam when it arrives all we're getting is flurries of sleet. Cows out no bother.

was thinking about getting one of those rear discharge spreaders alright. would be very handy when cleaning out the calf pens and where the yearling are. would have a fair bit of straw bedding which i clean out twice a year. usually in mid jan and again in the summer when evything is out and i wont need the pens. find it a bit of a waste to fill the trailer and tip in the field only to load it all again and fill the spreader.

these yoke seem a better idea for spreading out the bedding. i can fill the spreader and throw it straight out into the field. the side slingers dotn like straw dung until its well composted down.

we have a milker that can't decide if she wants to live or die, make the mistake at the onset of giving her a long withdrawal drug, so can't factory her....... was fine for 3 days and humped now again,

no harm she's is great order and would be worth a few quid on the hook

they would be fairly expensive id say. Ibought a new hi spec side slinger about 6 years ago. i spread all my dung in one go normally when closing up for the winter and through it on top of slurry then. Once is enough for me because the bother of cleaning the ung spreader after. you would nearly spend a day power washing it and cleaning it out so it doesnt rot away. then i por our oil in the inside and spray new oil on the outside. even though its 6 years old its still like new.

I'd be thinking AI. If she was bulled on 16th june, and ran with the bull 5 days later. If she repeated to AI, it would probably be the 5th or 6th of july going to the bull. So would be too early yet I'd be thinking.
Must be a nice heifer calf?

Snow flurries here most of the day in Cavan. Not just as cold as Sun/Mon but still bitter in the wind.
Last couple of days on the 10 day forecast look to be warming up, fingers crossed a bit of spring growth will come then.
