Sunday 26th May, 1st day of June milk.
We all had to put in bigger tanks and go on 3 day collections cos the lorry wouldn't do Sunday collections. So what do you think happens?
Yep, instead of saturday the lorry trundles in sunday morning and my biggest collection of the year so far goes into June's collections.
So milk produced on thursday 23rd gets hijacked into june.
So payment for 3 days production as well as this whole week gets held back till 18th july. Special praise for the genius who drew up the milk months:mad:

Let me guess it's either arrabawn or possibly glanbia? 6 weeks credit on about 2% of your year's supply. It is arrabawn isn't it?

If the seat's wet, sit on yer hat, a cool head is better than a wet ar5e.

    No i reckon it's glanbia - the bast##ds

For us the payment isn't the issue - the main issue is that with seasonality penalties you are bring milk from May into June thereby bumping up the June supply and dratically increasing the chances of being over in the wrong month of the year

They adjust it to take account of when the milk was produced
They do the same if you are collected on the first day of July. But you might have to make sure that this is done for you.

What's your take on the very poor milk price relative to the market tipp man?

Glanbia have said you still only need storage of 5 milkings. If you have storage for 3 days and your lorry wants 3 days great. But if it doesnt suit you have the right to get the lorry every 2 days.
Some drivers have told farmers they have to go 3 days. You dont. But obviously if buying a tank get one for 3 days

Hmm yeh might need to put in a new tank sooner rather than later so, last few cows still to calf and they will push me right up to the top of the tank, have alot more cows calving down in feb next yr as Im cutting back on the winter milkers. Tank at the minute is only 650gls for a herd of 75cows (not all milking at the minute), I'm guessing that is well smaller than any of yas with a similar herd?

i had a 750 gallon with 40 cows and only made 5.5 milkings to fill it at peak

Gone out of milk since 2004 but have a 550 gallon tank we milked 32 cows and couldnt get 3 days into it when we had all milking in may june and july. We have 4 or 5 cows from that time left here and they have 4 calves on them. You need to be over 6 gallon cows around here to make money.

    Are you paying attemtion:D:D:D
Take the strongest out for bales. Be sure to have enough grass ahead of your cattle:cool::cool:

Not suitable for silage, access is the problem. Have plenty of grass. Have a field by the main road that could be baled but too small and a few rushes an things in it and i want people to see how much is in it, make them jealous

Jesus, topping is some waste of diesel and time IMO, but it must be done if no alternative

I wonder when milk quotas go, how many will jump ship from Beef to Dairy and what effect will it have? A lot of cheap dairy bull calves and suckler cows looking very expensive to keep?
I reckon beef is in for a bumper 2 years due to much reduced supply caused by the fodder shortage. There is also the knock on affect of reduced fertility rates from less cows going to the bull this Spring. The aftershock will take a while to get over. All the time global demand is increasing.
