I see on lego site there is reduction on 5er discount.

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,828 ✭✭✭Princess Calla

Yeah I'd throw in something else to get the tenner, but then you're spending a tenner to save a tenner 😂🤣🤣

Do you have a dedicated room/extension for all your Lego?

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,966 ✭✭✭RGARDINR

Haha works out to be free then.

I wish I had. No I have a corner of attic conversion set up with lego sets. So have a bit set up there. Had to get the eves In the attic floor boarded a few years back. I reckon 80% is lego in them. Then I had to open a lot of sets and take them out of their boxes as couldn't get any more into the eves so put them into container boxes to make room in the eves.

That's the problem with lego, you need the space for it.

Yeah I got the "IKEA Alex" drawers on castors for ours. Which works well for the small sets and large sets are on top of that.

We've a rule that each set has to be tidied away before the next one is opened (more to stop cross contamination between the sets, than me being tidy) I still have a tin of random pieces of Lego though 🙄

Brutal when sets get mixed up and broken in a box it's a chore to do.

Can you use VIP points in official LEGO stores to get a discount? I've my eye the Viking Village and have enough points for a €50 discount.

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,461 ✭✭✭✭Exclamation Marc

Yep you can use points in store. You don't need to buy a voucher first. You can just go to the store.

I go through the sets every couple of months.

It's a balancing act as I don't want to suck the fun out of Lego for the kids either.

Their dad is very much "you have to build by the instructions"

I went off and bought them a few classics sets or "imagination Lego" as we call it, so they can free build what they want.

"Their dad is very much "you have to build by the instructions"" - sure, the first time, but after that you can build whatever you want. Lots of sets have multiple sets of instructions.

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,828 ✭✭✭Princess Calla

Nope, has to look like the box.

He still has his sets built from when he was a kid...they were all on a shelf in his room until his parents died. They are now still made up in big IKEA storage boxes, in the attic.

I did start to wash a couple of sets during first lockdown, as they were furry with dust, but the effort!!

Is he President Business? Is there Taco Tuesday? 😁

Fingal County Council are certainly not competent to be making decisions about the most important piece of infrastructure on the island. They need to stick to badly designed cycle lanes and deciding on whether Mrs Murphy can have her kitchen extension.

It was 30 years of dust, they were very grubby.

I had 2 basins going, one sudsy water one rinsing water then the dining room table covered in towels for them to dry....I gave up after the second set and ordered new stuff for them.

Dishwasher does wonders for loose parts, in cloth bags. I thought you were trying to clean assembled models

Some older models and/or their specialist parts are worth megabucks

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,828 ✭✭✭Princess Calla

Yeah I was afraid to put them in dishwasher or washing machine as they are old and didn't want to wreck them.

They were built but I took them apart as the kids were supposed to be playing with them.

However himself was being a bit precious about the whole endeavour, and it was taking forever, so back up to the attic they went and new ones were bought.

An (old) tooth brush is another option.

What is the safe temperature for washing Lego?

The lowest melting point of the materials Lego use is 105c (ABS and MABSs that are used for hard opaque and hard translucent parts respectively)

However I wouldn't expect the dyes to be stable that hot.

Normal 55c dishwasher won't cause trouble

The small sets Lidl have in lately are great for getting the kids to take some interest!!

I was in the Lego store in Grafton Street yesterday and am completely torn between the Holiday Main Street and the Alpine Lodge to add to Santa's Visit which we got last year.

Both absolutely fantastic looking sets 🤔

Also saw the Venator Attack Cruiser assembled in one of the cases. Holy moly it's huuuuuge!!!

Alpine Lodge is my favourite winter set, looks brilliant when built and the ice rink is a good build too. I have doubled mine up and it looks awesome with the full back on it

Was there as well around 8pm yesterday evening, it was deserted.

I don't remember how I built it, but I do remember finding it difficult as the brown trunk pieces blended together in the instruction manual. I would guess you're having similar issues trying to decipher it.

I bought my friends kids two small sets and gave them to them for Toy Show night.

We made set 60382 City Vet Van Rescue with Toy Animal Ambulance (there are several similar sets). I have to say that 9 year old drove that ambulance around the front room like it was stolen.

The 9 year old also noted that that the 'dog food' uses the same piece as the chocolate chip cookie from the Cookie Monster set and that the chocolate had killed the dog. :D

After 10 months finally got the Lego Technic Defender finished. My god that was a slog. Technic way too complicated for me, model looks nice but it's such a complicated built it sort of took the enjoyment out of it for me. USC land speeder, tall neck and mediaeval blacksmith to be opened nearer to Christmas.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,966 ✭✭✭RGARDINR

I have only bought 2 or 3 technic sets. 2 small ones and the osprey set (looks cool). Never built any but I just don't think technic is for me. I prefer the normal lego sets.

Holiday Main Street is unlikely to be on sale next year, Alpine Lodge will. That would influence my decision anyway

Is anyone here part of a Lego club? My wife and I live in a small village in Mayo and we're looking at starting a Lego club up with another few parents. Mainly for kids that wouldn't be that into sport/GAA.

We were thinking 2 hours a week would be plenty?

Maybe break the 2 hours into some challenges/free play/team builds etc.

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,828 ✭✭✭Princess Calla

There's the Brickx club here, seems to be abit of a franchise based operation.

They do have information about how to set up a club on their site. I looked into it as I've a family member who would actually make a good "leader" in this.

It's very popular where I am, especially for midterms and summer camps

Just ordered the Natrual Histroy Museum, only cost me €5 haha. Collecting points for a few months

Garda vetting is a pain in the hole for anyone wanting to start or get involved in something like this.

Fingal County Council are certainly not competent to be making decisions about the most important piece of infrastructure on the island. They need to stick to badly designed cycle lanes and deciding on whether Mrs Murphy can have her kitchen extension.
