    All,

Just wondering has anyone been able to change the number of cartridges on their original license when they came up for renewal? If so did you send a cover letter explaining why you needed more ammo, spoke to the super or something else? I hold two shotgun licenses and was only originally issued with 100 off on each even though put in for 500 off on each. I'm going about my renewals now and would like to see what course of action other people did in order to get this changed. Thanks in advance!

Say your shooting clay's and you need more on your license ask for 1000 as they are cheaper to buy in bulk.

On the FCR cross out the 100 limit, and write in 750 (or whatever amount you want) beside it. Write on a separate piece of paper the reason why. Such as 250 for game, and 500 for clays. That because of distance to the dealers, and the price when bought in bulk it is necessary to have this amount.

A smal tip. If you want 500 ask for 1,000. If you want 750 ask for 1,250, etc.

My license's for my .22 and shotgun came up for renewal last month. The original limit was 100 rounds for each so I submitted a separate letter with both requesting an increase to 500 rounds for the shotgun and 1000 rounds for the .22
When the grant of application letters arrived two weeks ago there was no mention as to the limits so I phoned the superintendents office and was informed that the limit was not increased. I completed the forms and sent them off to An Post for processing.
Miffed, I wrote a polite letter to the Super stating that if I was deemed fit to have a license for four firearms (.243 and a 30.06) why was my request for a limit increase overlooked. I requested his reasoning in writing.
No reply from the Supers office except three days later I received two more grant of application letters exactly the same as the first two which I filed and yesterday my licenses arrived with a limit of 500 rounds for the .22 and 250 cartridges for the shotgun (half of my original request)
I'm still pondering whether to follow up on it or just let it go as I suspect that I could be wasting a lot of quality time with the boys in blue.

    Lads,

Thanks for the comments. I have gone ahead and written a cover letter requesting the increase and outlining reasons for this. I've taken your adivce Cass and doubled up what I would like in the hope of actually getting the amount I want!;) Lets see how it goes.....
