I had trouble finding a rom that worked, it might have something to do with the rom and/or the emulator that I am using, WolfMAME. It turns out that there are two files floating about. One is a 173kb file and the other is 180kb, the 180kb file is the one that worked for me.

Bobble bobble is the rom of the bootleg bubble bobble which back in the day there was copy protection on one of the rom chips so they guessed/rewrote the code for this rom.
This results in the game playing differently than the original
Eg. White ghosts not shooting balls, bubbles not emulated properly, random or not so random fruit bonuses not appearing as they should

Any noticeable gameplay differences?
I've boots hidden on my mame board and sold my boot for an orig a while back so can't try it

If you're having difficulties seeing the enemy fire then you're playing the right one.
