    Dont.

Try cci stingers. Ive a cz 452 .22lr and would never part with it. Stingers give you plenty of kill power. Brought down many a fox with them at 100 yards. Con is they are very loud

For rabbits i use subs with a sako moderator which i like as its easy to take apart and clean, it looks big but weighs nothing. Im using a bushnell 5-15 legend scope but i rarely use more than 8x magnification. Glass very good in them but pricy compared to tasco, hawke etc.

What is your current .22 by the way?

    Yup.

The main two are 452 and 455.

    Within those categories you have;
    • Standard
    • Lux
    • American
    • Thumbhole
    • Varmint
    • SST
    • Some combo of the above such as Thumbhole SST.

I use cci stingers in my cz 22 and they group around an inch for me a 100. At 50 I tend to get a few flyers but all in all the power that is in them is great and there the only round I use in my 22. Are they as good as a 17 I don't think so but I haven't fired a 17 so I can't be certain. Technicaly its a smaller round I think but it's a faster round with more power and flatter flying.

Been there wore the T shirt out.

Shoot mainly fox and lots of rabbits.

22LR 20 years RWS HV HPs then Stingers

    17HMR 3 years 17gr BT + 20gr HP

    223 8 years 62gr FMJ + 64 gr PSPs

    223 way to go; same licence: 17gr 17HMR = 24.00/box of 50

    223 62 gr FMJ = 27.00/ 100 rounds

    223 64gr PSP (Fox) = 24.00/ 20 rounds.

No competition BUT you must buy a 223 rifle with the correct barrel to get accuracy from this ammo - you need ! in 9 or 1 in 8 twist!
Most 223s are 1 in 12, but some (not all) Tikka, CZ, Remingtons come in different twist barrels.

    Be smart.

It's a unique, never had a problem with it, it's just getting old that's all, so going to upgrade to .17

Suppose the standard be the one to go for I reckon, nobody will c the pretty side of it up a mountain, thanks

I have a standard 452 and have a 527 american, american models are way nicer to shoot if you have a scope for it, the standard and lux are designed for shooting with iron sights so has a low cheek piece and needs higher mounts to clear the iron sights, i have about an inch of padding on the stock so i can get a proper cheekweld, i'd gor for the american, sillhuette or style model if i were you, although i love the look of the new 455 thumbhole sst model, if i come across one here i'd love to trade mine for one,

My only regret with my choice of hmr is the heavy barrel.
absolutely pointless weight and not needed on a hunting rifle at all and with a mod on the end its really unbalanced to shoot off hand

id never again buy a heavy barrelled rimfire again.

Sak mod is the best mass produced mod for the money.

4-12 or 4-16 is more mag than you'll ever need. mine rarely goes over 10x. Bushnell banner 4-16x50 is popular and good value for money.

I started with an old cz 452 .17 and it was quite good. I changed to a cz 455 thumbhole stock with a 16inch barrel and an A-tec moderator. Very tidy unit to handle...:D I was trying to take out the grey crows and magpies and the extra 4 inches was getting in the way when trying to use the wing mirror on the jeep as a rest. Average hawke scope on it but I am very happy and it is scary accurate..If I miss, it is not the fault of the gun..

Would love to try the Sako but €€€ being what they are I went for the cz. Very Happy with it!!

I'm strongly considering getting the sako cut down to 16 inches. It'll be a grand handy gun then.

An barreled action with no scope or stock will fire a shot, but it's about what you are happy with. It's not about impressing anyone else, but what you like, and can live with.

Plus the different models come with different features. Like the Thumbhole is preferred by some, others like the straight stock for feel, and comfort. Some come with heavy barrel, some with lite barrel.

It's your money, plus it doesn't hurt to have a little pride in your gun.

A lovely gun no doubt about it. But I'm not into th heavy barrel or the word heavy is the weight noticeably different in the field.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 965 ✭✭✭lb1981

its really not that heavy at all even though it might look it , my old cz american .22 was about the same weight.

Sako is a higher build quality ,but there is not one thing wrong with a cz , brilliant gun and the new .17hmr is a lovely job.
Everything was bought from this site second hand bar the light so it is about getting the right deals at the right time, the gun ,scope ,mod and mounts cost about 1000, picatinny rail 45 ,light 250 sling 30 bipod 80.

I went onto the gmk website n seen the difference €€€, the light was expensive is it a led lenser, would you use the bipods much, I'm debating weather to get them or not might just try sticks to start off with,
    Thanks lb

no nightmaster 800 it is the best gun mounted light you can buy,can be sourced cheaper than 250, a bipod is a necessity depending on what ground you shoot ,sticks may not be an option to shoot from.
