well lads! went out with the ferrets today with deano2882 I got them off a friend to try it out as he hasnt the time anymore :) we got out to this permission dean had aquired full of rabbits and full of holes!! i only had a few purse nets with me as im only knew to this so we netted up the 'best' looking ones and sent in the troops (two ferrets one yellow one brown) we got one unlucky fecker and a few others bolted from open holes  we realised not standing around the holes made the rabbits come out we got one more but when we decided to leave the ferrets had other plans after a while waiting we went for some grub and arived back with a more experienced friend one ferret poked his head out and we got him out with a dead rabbit he killed :D the other F**k is still down there we are going back saturday with the more experienced guy and his ferrets with ferret finders! is there any hope of me gettin this lad back? and any way to train them to come out i dont have money for the finders should i get rid of them ferrets and train pup ones?? any help would be nice :)

You should have left the ferret box close to the burrow you left the ferret into, there is a chance he could be in it later tonight or in the morning. Set a few live cage trap's with whatever your feeding your ferret with, if he comes out he might go in one of them. Just a few tip's that have worked for me.

hope ya get him back .. but in future never go ferreting unless you have a means of getting him out .. they can get stuck and need rescuing I wouldnt go without a finder even years ago before finders they used to tie a line onto another ferret and dig to him\her for the most part they kill and move .... as for getting him back i would of blocked all the holes except the one he went down and left the box over it with bedding and grub in it have done this before and found them in the box not always but sometimes get a finder and ya wont look back

Just seen this thread ! Lesson to be learned ere is u don't hunt unless you have the right tools , you done get on a horse with out a saddle and you should save and pick up a finder .

Cass quoted you just incase this come into your previous removed post as I did not see them .

Hope ya find ur ferret !

No no jeez that comments fine, Im starting
to see that now just know of a lot of fellas that Dont use em! Well its better to be safe than sorry maybe if me and a mate who will be regularly going with each other keep one ferret each and one collor each instead of trainin all new young ones? I will have a right think about it

Happened me before when her collar somehow came off (dug for an hour:mad:) just left a ferret box and few baited mink cage traps out, came back that night a she was sitting pretty with a full belly in one of the mink traps.

hope you get him back..not a dig at you in any way but you should do your best to get the collars sorted..my little jills are a very important part of my team when out with hawk and would hate to lose them,so i never ferret without the collars on.btw am only learning myself ,so am no expert on it.check out done deal now and again for collars, you might get someone looking to swap some other kind of hunting stuff in exchange for collars.ATB anyway and hopefully you'll get a happy outcome on your search..

Did you try squealing the ferret out
Basically like calling a fox but do it at the hole
I do it and works a treat as I've used it since my ferrets were young and before they hunted
Always associated it with food like anytime I was feeding them I'd squeal at end of garden till I got to the ferrets with food and works
I'd never lose my ferrets though as I've got finder (though now my collar is broke so Havint been out till I get it fixed)
What if you both pull few quid together and buy one
Make you sick at the price of them new so can understand about them being a few quid but shouldn't go without one as ferrets tend to like a nap or two underground :)
Seems the ferrets are cheapest part unfortunately
    But can I give advice
Don't leave ferret behind ( lost ferret is as bad as a mink being around )try everything from squealing him out and jump up and down above the burrows sometimes works aswell
Hopefully he returns before a fox, cat or buzzard gets hold of him first
    Atb

went back with tin of dog food banging it in all burrows turned on rodent sqeaker fox caller loads diff calls off my phone apps..tied wire round chicken leg and tied it to inside off cage with plenty straw in it and left it in cover beside burrows.. back out there in the morning with more experianced friend his 8 ferrets all with collars and his field nets to clear rabbit for owner before he goes digging all burrows with track machine as damaged they causing has him at his wits end...so either way if ferrets dont find other ferret tomorrow and he isn in his cage he will be found when owner goes digging as we wil be there knocking bolting rabbits wit the double barrel...rabbit stew for sunday dinner yummy.....
