    Hi all
I'm currently looking at buying one of these rifles (pro hunter mountain mk2-tikka t3 lite) in .308 for stalking next season... I'd appreciate any pros or cons you might have,as i just can't decide on which one to buy!!

    Tikka.

The Styer suffers issues with a fiddly/weak foreend. The action and barrel (IOW the guns performance is great) but the feel of the gun is just wrong.

The Tikka, while i'm not a fan of their stock either, is much more solid, does not move or is nowhere as fiddly as the Styer's.

I have owned the Styer in .243 and got rid of it. In retrospect a new stock would solve the problem, but why buy a rifle knowing you have to adjust it immediately. A friend also had it in 6,5x55 and when shooting of the bipod suffered changes in POI. He changed to a heavy barreled Savage.

The Tikka stock is much more solid, and the action performance is as good as the Styer's. So basically it comes down to the stock for me.

Price wise. not too sure of the cost of the Styer. i think it's in the €1,200+ region. The Tikka should cost no more than €1,000. So another reason to look at it.

    just me opinion.

I have the Steyr Pro-Hunter in 308 for a number of years now, no problems with it,a fine accurate safe reliable rifle, will put 3 or 5 rounds in a 1-1.5 inch hole consistently. Would reccomend it without hesitation. If you are near I have no problem giving you a shot/test. The first pro-Hunters that came out the for-end was a bit flimsy but that was rectified.

    +1
I have 2 tikkas. Unreal accurate for the money. Both shoot less than half inch at 100 yards.
The steyr has a nicer safety though. That's the only complaint I have with tikka. You have to take the gun off safety to work the bolt.

Have a steyr in 270 for 10 years, put several thousand rounds through it, still looks great and shoots sweet.

My local gunshot has a practically new Steyr full stock in 6.5 - I think with a zeiss scope for a very good price.

I have the pro hunter .243 mountain , no problem use it with bi pod and with out , shoots 3 round groups into inch square at 100 yard all day long . Nice rifle with set trigger , well balanced .

If your going tikka go for the hunter in timber , same weight as the lite but better balanced with a mod on it .

Draw back to tikka is the safety , u have to cock the gun to cycle the bolt , for me this is dangerous and a bad design . Lovely accurate gun tho .

I would choose a T3 by far. The T3 is the euro Remmy with plenty aftermarket bits available.
Precison off the bench will be about the same. The T3 lite stock is stiffer and of better material
than the Steyr. One can relieve the T3 stock easily which will lead to less chance of
barrel touching under field conditions. The Steyr stock, also the newer one is a lost case.
I've spoken to the Steyr design engineer about it and he said they don't want to change anything.
T3 plastic mags look wimpy but due to the single row feed they are very reliable, especially
in the shorter cartridges like 243/308 it is a bonus. T3 can be upgraded to AICS magazines Steyr can't.

My votes a Tikka by far.

Both rifles accurate but Tikka more reliable IMO.

Was out hunting with a friend and bit of banter going on as always. Whos rifle is nicer, better etc....? Just friendly mudslinging really.... Shortly after we were out stalking one day and as walking into an area he noticed the fore-end of his steyr was touching the left side of his barrel. Needless to say this was a new development and he was concerned about it. Long story short, we came across some animals shortly after the this and the Tikka put them down because the Steyr couldnt be trusted for an accurate shot at that time. That sorted out the mudslinging for a while anyway!

Friend had to sand out stock (a lot) to get barrel free floating again. He did and is shooting with it still without a problem.

I know others who have owned steyrs and have had the exact same problem. This problem only seems to arise with the synthetic models, AFAIK the timber stocks are fine in the steyrs.

Tikka all the way for me. Its not flashy but it does its job well, whenever its required. An awful lot to be said for that. Important to have confidence in you rifle. Me 2c.

Truthfully, I dont know if it was MK2 or not. Friends gun would be no more than 6 yrs old id say if thats any help. First time i saw the 'flimsy' fore end was about 15 yrs ago give or take a couple.
