Well lads, long time reader, not much of a poster tho, just got my new licenses back today, see where the allocation of rounds for both shotgun and rifle brought down from 400 lst time to 150 this time, just wondering did anyone else notice this... Is it a new garda initiative???

just checked mine, both stayed the same 500 scattergun, 750 rifle.

Don't think they can change it like that.

need some better informed people to chip in.

With every application, and the new FCR (renewals) the amount of ammo should be stated. On the FCR it should be printed, and if the amount is not what you had or now no longer meets what you need you can change it, and just supply some extra info with the additional page of details to explain why.

As for changing the amount. The Gardaí can nominate the amount of ammo on your license. They can, afaik, change it at their discretion, but rarely do it "between" license and most times it happens between renewals or during substitutions.

It's an easy fix. Send in a letter, with a copy of your old license, and your new license stating the previous amount you had and that your require this amount again.

Apply for them. A small tip. Without going overboard, ask for more than you need so if they give a lesser amount it's still in the region you want.

Tell them you could buy them in boxes of 525 & Tins of 500 and want to do so because it cuts down the cost for you. That you use more than 100 at a time, IF you target shoot at a range.

I have 1000 on all my licenses ;)

IF you shoot clays then you will need more than 100 cartridges for a good days shooting. So again ask for 1500 'cos you can buy in bulk a slab at 250 a time

    Something like:

    Dear Superintendent X.

I am applying for an increase in the ammunition allowance on my .22lr license (include certificate number). I use the rifle for target shooting aswell as vermin control. Due to the distance to my local Registered firearms dealer, the frequency i can get to him, and the amount per box the ammunition is sold in i am seeking an increase from 100 rounds to 775.

This will allow me to have 525 rounds (1 box) for target shooting, the amount per packet they are sold in, and 250 round (5 boxes) of suitable vermin rounds.

    Respectfully.

    22Magtech.

That's it. Keep it factual, short, and no personal/meandering thoughts.

    It's a re-print. No fee.

If it's a substitution. No fee.

    New application. €80

Seen this over the years with the old yearly green license, often got the Sgt to change it, but one year he had said the super had pushed for smaller amounts, next year back to normal. Go figure.....

I never had a limit on the green or white licenses. Protested this on the new application 3 years ago. They (Gardai) replied they advised putting a figure on it. Put 1000 down got 750.

I reckon 1000/750 or unlimited, "who cares, who can tell?"
