Is there a ng+ option on this? Or do people just continue on with their original play through usually? Also do many of you play death march difficulty?

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,108 ✭✭✭johnnysmack

    There is NG+
I've only ever played up to the second hardest difficulty (saving Death March for the platinum)
Heard Death March is a nightmare at first but gets easier once you're past Whiterun.

I've only ever played it on death march. Seriously don't get what the fuss is about regards difficulty. Only fight that ever gave me trouble was the Griffin in white orchard but that was down to me not knowing what I was doing.

Hardest bit for me on Death March was escorting Kiera against those demon dog things. I hated that bit so damn much.

I've about 230 hours put into it myself. Mostly because I would set off on a grand quest and inevitably end up in some dodgy Inn playing Gwent and then forget what I was originally supposed to do because I'd leave said Inn and stumble on an interesting side-quest.

Currently dipping in and out of a Deathmarch NG+ play through using an alchemy tank build. Geralt after necking about 10 potions is a scary sight. It was a long time since I put the build together and I can't remember how it works exactly, but somehow I seem to regen health at a crazy rate and he's pretty much indestructible at this point as long as I'm stocked up on potions and I'm just about to hit The Bog section.

How else would you play it..?

I may have 370 hours played for similar reasons :-)

I have not played one round of Gwent in the time i've played the game. What am I missing out on?!

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,051 ✭✭✭CWF

I have never played gwent haven't a clue how to. I'm sure there's some YouTube tutorial I could watch.

Gwent at the start is a little crap because the opponents are easy and you don't have many interesting cards. It gets good as you collect cards and you'll get more into it, and then the gwent tournament is a good challenge. If you get the full gwent deck then I felt it was slightly OP at that point.

I would have liked a good standalone version of it but the versions I've seen have made changes I don't like and there's a gatcha element to the free one.

I think the game doesn't really come to life until after Velen. I found that whole area to be so dreary that I was almost forcing myself to get through it.

After that it gets a lot better!

It takes a while to get going and for you to be able to get good money for weapons/armour but once you get going it quickly becomes one of the best games ever. The subquests are much better than subquests in any other game.

I did 230 hours as well just because of the time you can play Gwent or get lost in a side mission.
I also tried to clear every marker on the map except for a few that bugged out and the ones at sea (fúck that noise!)

Oh what a game. Also went back to it due to being at home the last few weeks, had finished it already so now going around knocking off every bloody question mark and treasure hunt I can find.

Id advise finishing the main campaign before the dlc but its not necessary.

Definitely get into Gwent! I am trying to find all the cards now but its tough looking for them when all you have is a book giving you the general area (dont want to cheat and just look them up ha!). I like Gwent so much I bought the standalone game which is great fun!

I had the same thing with a friend of mine who picked it up recently, he said it took him a bit to get into but once you get into it..... Im so jealous now, I'd love to start all over again with fresh eyes

The only issue i have with this is that early on, some merchants or whoever kick the **** out of your deck early on, and ****ed if I can remember which ones it was now i have a stronger deck...

Still building it up, but annoying as all hell.

  • First playthrough in 2017: Loved it, played Hearts of Stone DLC too but didn't push on with Blood and Wine.

Second playthrough in 2019/20: Loved it, played Hearts of Stone DLC too but didn't push on with Blood and Wine. :D

I started that second play last Christmas and continued for many hours through to the end of January. I didn't want to go full masochist, so choose 'Blood and Broken Bones' difficulty rather than the hardest 'Death March'. I liked that difficulty. It felt a bit challenging along the way without anything feeling like a chore, or having to repeat sections multiple times to defeat a difficult boss.

I dipped a toe into B+W, watched the establishing cut-scenes, started a mission, roamed around the new map area for a bit,
encountered some plants which sprang out of the ground and handed my ass to me
. Switched off to come back later, but that was 2+ months ago now.

TW3 is arguably my favourite game. Ideally, the thoughts of there being 'new' content for me to play which I haven't played yet is amazing. In reality though, doing anything after the main story finishes, it just feels a bit cold and empty, especially when
you are dumped back in a deserted Kaer Morhen after the main game's conclusion, even if you get the 'good' ending
. Even though I've read that B+W is ideal to leave until after finishing the main game, even though I've read that it's as good as if not better than the main game, I'm still finding it hard to go back to B+W.

I'm just a casual gamer btw. Like when I do play a game, I put in some heavy hours, but I only play 2-3 games per year at the very most. Maybe that's the thing - That month I spent on TW3 and the 200 or so hours involved, maybe that's the fill I needed and I'm satisfied for now.

    Still...would love to play B+W.

I think you may have just been jaded with the game by the time you kept getting to B+W from playing through the main game again..

I myself just played through it once, took a year or so of a break and then jumped into the expansions, felt my experience was all for the better because of it.

The main game on its own is long enough and most will feel jaded with the game if they do all quests before pushing to the end.

    Loved the witcher 2!
1 was very good too but had a few annoyances (...the combat stances), still a great game. Great developer too who are happy to continue to support their game with updated content for free.

    I also love Witcher 2!!!!!

Absolutely, that is the case, rather than B+W not being tempting or enticing.

I'm probably going to fire it back up this week and see it out.

I've had this game now for a while but just can't seem to get into it and I would love to! I'm getting stuck on missions where I fight some dead witch or spirit or something and I keep getting killed over and over and over again - maybe it's at a level too high for me or something but apart form that the game itself in terms of details like potions\oils\etc. is just overwhelming...i'm seeing little numbers show up beside my armor and I've no idea what they are referring to, or if they are good or bad...

As a recent convert (well, 100+ hours and a few weeks ago), this was me. I left the game for the longest time. It seems like a chore to learn about all the potions, signs, bombs, blah blah blah but it becomes way easier when you spend that little bit of time at it and is very much worth it in the end. I didn't really start using them until later in the game, but wish i had done so earlier.

As regards an enemy that keeps killing you, either run away and come back or google what works against them and go for it. Sometimes the best way, imo of course, to beat an enemy is to keep dodging and strike once or twice at a time.

I had it on "Sword and Story" difficulty and ignored most of the bombs/potions/oils/mutagens/abilites; they were definitely overwhelming. Finished every quest and side quest; loved it.

I found the dodge and strike method the best as well. In fact, with certain enemies, it's the only way to defeat them. Poor Geralt was more like a tumbling monkey than a renowned swordsman!

Sounds like the nightwraith that gets summoned by the well? For that, you need to use the yrden sign. Place the yrden circles on the ground and keep the nightwraith inside them to strike them; otherwise they are immune.

For something like that at that level, alternate between using quen and yrden. Keep quen up and refresh it when it gets destroyed. Yrden circles also expire so put them back up when needed.

Since this is on Game Pass I decided to install it again.

This will be my third play through, I've never played a game more than two times and the list is small(F3, FNV, F4 being three that come to mind).
Its probably the best game of all time for me, they just nailed the story as well as the game play.

I really don't understand why they didnt release another game with the assets they had.
Similar to a Fallout New Vegas situation. Surely it was a missed opportunity and couldn't have went wrong.

Cant believe how long it's been now.

I have brought this game on 4 different platforms at cheap prices, that's how much I love it, planning a play through on the switch soon.

Guess the studio has been working on Cyberpunk for a good while

  • I've got all the Witcher games but I am struggling to get through the first game. It's mechanics are just a bit clunky, imagine that it's a game age thing.
I keep tapping out when doing the Kalkstein back and forth

How out of the loop if will I be if I try to skip to the next game?

Skip straight to 3. Go back and play 2 if you like 3. Don't bother with 1.
