McDonald's isn't as nice as when I was a kid.

Budweiser tastes horrible. I used to like it and I know people always say it tastes like piss, but I had one a few days ago and... yecch. (This may have soemthing to do with four years in Germany)

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

I always taught it was something along those lines but really stuff is much different now. Coke is the same the taste has changed over the years. I used to love how it tasted not near as much now.

Theres a clear taste difference in alot of stuff now compared to how it was.

I vaguely remember going into sweet shops and buying sheets of paper and loving them. Bought a few hundred A4 sheets in Tesco last week and it's just not tasting the same.

As you get older, your food tastes blander and your farts get smellier, fact of life I'm afraid.

Your taste buds change and you lose some of your sense of smell as you get older, hence the smellier farts, nature balancing it out.

I tried dansak in an Indian once. I should have known by the name not to order it.

It is true that your tastes change, and obviously you have to accommodate for the rose tinted glasses aspect of it, but a lot of things have physically changed. Someone mentioned Burger Bites - the taste of these, and similar crisps like Hot Lips have changed completed, even the texture of them is completely different. They still taste grand, but they are completely different from what they were 10 or 15 years ago.

Same goes for salt and vinegar chipsticks- as a child they used leave me with white lips they were that strong, horribly bitter taste altogether, which is why I never took salt or vinegar on a bag of chips. But the other day I was offered some chipsticks, and they were distinctly mild!

I was left wanting for the horrible aftertaste that sent my salivary glands into overdrive... but, nothing :(

Rancheros aren't the same as they were when I was a kid. They aren't as strong as flavour as I remember and they are huge now.

Actually giving it a bit more thought walkers are a lot blander tasting nowadays and chocolate isn't nearly as nice.

I'd say it has a lot to do with no more artificial colours, flavours and sweeteners. They were poison, but fuk it, they made shíte taste good.

I'd give €50 for a single of Chips the way they used to be.

It's not just potatoes, carrots also taste bland and I have even bought organic ones in my search to find that old juicy sauteed carrot taste. Fried onions, same story. Cabbage, also the same. Everything is ruined.

For some reason, it all more or less looks the same but most fruit and veg (in particular) has lost something.

There was a TV show on a few months back where some guy was giving a reason for it and also explained why organic fruit and veg was no better but he was convinced pesticides and hybridization was at the root of it and he had some sort of mission to get his hands on seeds that have never been affected, as he was also convinced the reason Organic produce was no better was because their soil was depleted and poorly sourced seeds.

I hear there are some remote areas of Leitrim were the veg growing there tastes as it did once upon a time but the last three people that went looking to purchase seeds, disappeared and were never seen since.

Isn't it fascinating what you learn in AH? I didn't realise the above, but my child has a cold at the moment, and at dinner earlier he mentioned that the chicken had no flavor. I almost took it as a critique until I remembered that his nose being blocked up means he has no sense of taste either! :D

Although he dropped one earlier that as my old man used say "Fùck! You should've bottled that and given it to the Queen!", fcuking nuclear àrse! :pac:

I'd hazard a guess that snacks like these aren't fried in delicious trans fats and covered in piles of salt and MSG like the good old days. Also, I'd say some of the original ingredients have since been banned or discouraged, like certain Es and the like.

Things like Wheelies, Chipsticks, Chickatees, Skips etc used to burst with flavour and washing them down with Coke was an incredible experience!

Nowadays they are just nice, nothing special.

I'd guess some of the flavourings that used to be in some of your favourite foods are probably banned now, and less salt is used. In a lot of cases the crap was the 'tasty' part. We're being weaned off the high levels of salt, which to be fair are ridiculous here in just about everything.

Rashers.. without sounding like an old fart (well i am in my 40's) but ye used be able to slap them on the pan without any lard/oil and they would fry in their own fat perfectly, now ye put them on and a watery salty foamy pish comes out of them that ye have to drain off before they will fry.. and no bacony taste of them!!

Cadbury's chocolate, way less cocoa, way more sugar. Crap sickly sugary stuff. For decent chocolate you gotta go to Lidl or Aldi, no kidding.

Yup it's the fat that makes them tasty. People want leaner meat so the shops are full of that shite. I'm all for healthy eating but it's easy to go overboard. People forget the key is moderation. A nice couple of rashers with a bit of fat on em won't kill ya if you don't eat them every day.

Pork products are usually pumped full of additives to retain water and mass. That's why there's often a rainbow sheen on them. Not good stuff tbh.

Sam Spudz, Mr. Perri made the onion rings that had a really strong cheesy flavor, but now just taste like styrofoam :(

I was watching Heston Bluementhal's Fantastical Food on channel 4 there recently and he was making sours sweets. He used some ridiculous combination of flavors to make the most sour sweet possible, the reactions weren't unlike the recent chilli powder videos that have been doing the rounds lately! :D

But they did tests with babies where he offered them a lemon slice, or a slice of something sweet. The babies reactions were hilarious, but they kept going back for the lemon slice as opposed to the slice of sweet! They had no explanation for it though.

Food tastes sh1te now cos it's missing the secret ingredient: danger. You never see news reports about disgruntled factory workers sticking broken glass in jam or whatever anymore.

Brunch ice cream, used to love biting in to the sweet biscuit coating, now there's barely any coating, i think the coating itself is different, tastes muck!!

That reminds me, I had a choc ice the other day, and the chocolate might have just been painted on as opposed to when I was on a school trip to the HB factory years ago and saw them actually lather the choc ices with a nice thick layer of chocolate! If you want that now you have to go for a twice the price magnum! :(

Brunches are pathetic these days. It's like it's someones full time job to actually coat the ****ing things in as little sprinkles as possible whilst still maintaining some sort of uniform coverage. I had one for the first time in years a while ago and I was disgusted.

One thing I like to eat regularly that seems to still be as good as ever is the good old Iceberger.

Loop the loops are another one I think changed for the worse, I remember thinking that years ago. I think they re-branded the packaging. The wrapper wasn't all they changed and it was just shḯtey after that.

There's a lump of cheese in the fridge that's been there since 1991, and ye're dead right, it was much nicer back then. Had a piece there a minute ago and it's feckin rank. Must be the GMOs.

Cornflakes and Wheetabix is definitely one food that tastes ****e compared to when we were growing up. My mother use to tell us that there would be more nourishment from eating the boxes that these cereals came in than than there would be from eating the product themselves and this was in the 70's. Nowadays eating the cereals would probably be far more toxic than eating the packaging that they came in.
