    Hi,
I am changing my shotgun as soon as the season finishes and I'm wondering do I have to go through the same routine as I did when I got my liceince last May or is there a different form for changing guns?

If your keeping the old SG then yes you apply for a new license on the new SH

If you trading then you apply for a substitution license, same FCA1 form. This should only take a few days/weeks/months

    From http://www.irishshooting.com/?page_id=189

3.4-Firearm Substitution (M if your substituting)
Complete if your changing the license from one firearm to another. It is on a ‘Like for Like’ license, meaning a change of unrestricted firearm license for another unrestricted firearm license. It can be from your present caliber to another caliber. carefully complete each part with the correct details.
Complete parts Serial Number, Make, Model, Calibre, and Type (tick a box that relates to your firearm)
Sub-Type, tick a box that relates to your firearm.
    AND
Complete what you did with the firearm you had (are replacing) (C)

If it's a 12g shotgun for another 12g shotgun then you need an FCA1 and use:
    • Section 1 - Tick substitution, and "I have not held a cert............".
    • Section 2 - All of it.
    • Section 2.4 - All of it.
    • Section 3.1 - Input the details of new gun here.
    • Section 3.3 - Dealers details.
    • Section 3.4 - Input your current firearm details here.
    • Section 3.5 - All of it.
    • Section 4.1 - All of it.
    • Section 4.2 - All of it.
    • Section 4.3 or 5.2 - Depending on whether you are a member of a range (4.3) or gun club (5.2).
    • Section 5.1 - All of it.
    • Sign and date it.
Include the 2 photos as some stations ask for it and others do not so better to be sure. Also fill in a seperate piece of paper with the extra information as required in certain sections.

Its becoming more and more common for certain districts to ask for almost all info to be filled in on the FCA1 even if only doing a sub. Best to fill them in, and send it off to prevent any returns looking for more info. The only things you definitely don't need are the doctor details, and referees.

I must fill out one soon enough myself. Do you need to re-submit land owners permissions with it?

I would. Better to do it then "risk" not doing it, and have it refused or sent bac looking for more info.

My father changed his 12 gauge for a 20 gauge last summer he filled in the form as a substitution and got the licence back within 15 or 20 days well they made a mistake on the first one and put something like 20112 instead of 2012 but the quickly fixed it
