There have been no news reports anywhere about the outcome of negotiations with landlords for HMV Ireland to reopen any stores, so I've got no idea why you or anyone else in this thread thinks that:
    a) random people on boards will know more about this than has been reported, and
    b) those random people would be willing to share this commercially sensitive information for no good reason on a thread here.

According to news out today (see the article on the NME here) HMV will start announcing plans for the turnaround of their UK operations tomorrow. I would imagine that news about the Irish operation, if there is any, will follow that.

Best news I've heard in a long time. Be nice to be able to head into Galway and pick up a few films.

Are they going to reopen all irish stores or just the ones mentioned in the article?

No one knows, only time will tell. The plan was to reopen 6 stores but it now looks like they will be reopening 7 stores.

Hope to gawd the one in Drogheda is reopened. It had the best selection out of most of the stores i used to frequent.
The rent is, afaik, pretty high so it would be understandable if it didn't.

Where's wampyr, I'm sure he's happy about this news :pac:

Good news to read, though not entirely surprising Grafton is not one of the first to be re-opened. I wonder if Hilco are trying to do a deal over the rents. They'd certainly be foolish not to.

Wampy, people here have repeatedly insisted this was likely a mistake & illegal in this country anyway; and Darko has repeatedly asked you scan the receipt to prove what you're saying.

A picture will suffice, happy to pm you my email address. As for a printer/scanner needing ink well that sounds like an excuse. I have one of them and it scans documents just fine when the ink cartridges are removed.

I somehow doubt that you are one of the few people in the country who hasn't got a digital camera of some variety. :pac:

Please stay on topic everyone. If wampyrus77 hasn't posted proof of his claim by now then he never will. So lets just drop it please. The thread has been derailed enough.

delighted with this - was over in manchester recently with my dad - went into HMV "for a look" - and bought 4 cds! it definitely is a sustainable business model - and when they re open i'd say it'll do great business at the start!

good to hear the henry street store is ready to go - as it is still stocked!

Yes, Henry St, Dundrum, Liffey Valley and Limerick I think. No word on Grafton Street yet.

The Grafton Street branch is the only one I really care about. Hopefully it is one of 7. But great news in any case. I miss browsing for Blu-rays.

It's somewhat disappointing not to see the Cork HMV on that list, but I'd expect they're focusing on a small number of stores most likely to be profitable in the short term to see what the business prospects are. I can't imagine that the Kilkenny one will be back any time soon, for example (a great pity for those who frequented it, I'm sure, but from the couple of times I went there I thought it was a way-oversized and over-stocked shop for the likely audience it would attract...).
