ffs guys it was mistake for me to start playing this again :D

Was giving the geallords epoch server a go, ktulu and the boys were nice enough 2 days ago to give me a lift around so I could grab a decent backpack and a pdw/ak47, but today I was on my own.

trecked from electro to cherno with no real specific plan in mind, swapped out my ak for pg58 (?) had to relearn the whole zombie survival technique all over (have not played since january). Just outside cherno I spot a green suv with 3 wheels missing, a few quick sneaks into cherno and I had her running again and set my way north.

Came across a crashed chopper in brezno with 3 DMRS and a M1014 so took all of them and continued north to try out the trade camp, couldnt sell the excess dmrs but sold the 1014 and some surpless medical supplies I had among other things. Got the bug to earn more so set off with the intent to raid breznos hospital for all its goods as it was night now I turned on my headlights. Barely got down the road when I misjudged my turn around a wreck and smacked my lights out. F*ck I was blind. It's ok just back up nice and eas...*CRASH*

I lost a wheel and my engine damage was 84%. ****.

So I set off to try and find a wheel. 30 seconds later I became aware that I was blind and needed to get out my flashlight. Went to put my PDW in my backpack and remembered too late that the game automoves all your ammo. PDW goes in backpack, but not enough room for the ammo so it disapears into the vortex.

    double f*ck.

Ok not a problem, I'll head towards the NE airfield, should find a wheel somewhere near there and perhaps some new ammo for my pdw.

Every industial building on the way turned up nothing. I arrived at the airfield desperate for something. Sadly that was also picked clean. Sitting in the tower, Saddened that my green suv full of loot was going to be lost I decided to go and see what the airplane trader offered. Short walk down and I was joyful to see another Green SUV undamaged parked behind the seller. I ran to grab my new vehicle only to find it was locked for another player. Initially I ducked, worried that they were nearby, but if they hadnt seen my flashlight by now clearly no one was watching. Still to almost have success and be denied...

But the game has that new salvage mechanic so with one quick intervention of the tool kit I stole the front wheel of this poor fellas SUV and trotted back to my own. Took it very slowly back up the hill and bought a new engine for my suv. I then started to slowly take it back down the hill (still no lights) with the intention of hiding it somewhere discreet and logging off.

    Slowly

    slowly

    *CRASH*

    fuuuuuuuuuuu!!!

Now both of my front wheels are gone.

f*ck this. I emptied out my suv of as many valuables as I could and set off leaving it behind.

If you can find it, there are still 2 DMRS and a bloodbag and a jerry can in there.

    :D
Cheers for the DMRs :D . Also just so you know a lot of cars have "middle" wheels which you can salvage and use on vehicles. It comes in quite handy!

Just wondering, is it worth investing in ARMA II for this mod at this stage, especially with the standalone around the corner?

Up to yourself really. Standalone won't be out for a few months at the least. So 20 quid to play Dayz til then, plus you can always play Arma itself.

You can also play wasteland which is just brilliant.

I was raging today at it, zombies see you from 30 metres off when your being all sneaky sneaky. And I think the ovaron makers made them do extra damage. In a way it does add more survival to the game and planning routes in and out of towns for loot.

I was referring to how in epoch zombies seem to auto Argo when you salvage. Since I'm salvaging I can't move so zombie broke my legs leading to the longest 400 metre crawl to an SUV I was repairing which near the end of it I picked up the Agro of another crawling zombie who due to us crawling I couldn't lose him and he pulled in a few runners who put me to the point that I passed out.

But I survived made it to the yellow SUV repaired it drove to the hospital in brezno got some morphine, ate a lot of beans and went back and ran the f*ckers over.

I have no luck in dayz.

So I'm considering giving this a whack.

On a scale of 1-Murder, just how horrendously punishing is this learning curve?

Replace Eve-Online with DayZ, and you have a pretty accurate idea of what it's like :P

If you spend a bit of time learning the controls {arma's controls are really annoying to get to grips with but become very natural after you grasp the basics} by playing arma 2's tutorial.

Then spend a bit of time on dayz wiki to know what does what.

After that its just grasping other players and their dickery

Stayed on for a bit to park up my vehicle and go sell vehicles for money etc. I was on my way to Bash in a vehicle and I crashed taking both front wheels out(as per usual) except when I got out I fainted and died after a few seconds because I disembarked on a tiny wall. So, lost all my gear because the server restarted 10 minutes later. Bye bye M4A3 CCO SD, DMR and NVGs :(

would you believe after you logged out, I logged back in just to park my suv somewhere out of the way and while transversing the woods to find a neat spot to park and hide my big yellow van I clipped a tree the wrong way and my engine exploded, taking me and all my loot with me :(

I'v laughed before many times when I had wanted to run over a cow/sheep to then get it's meat only for it to launch miles away.

Howdy lads. Just pinging you all here to let you know I got a DayZ server up and running and I'm lookin' fer a few more Irish to populate it. It's US 499 hosted in germany, so the ping is about 40ish most of the time. Public Hive connected to the official DayZ hive and its on Veteran difficulty with Crosshairs.

I usually play with a load of Irish lads in Dayz and figured that this would be a daycent time to buy one just to hang out on a familiar sever that I can admin. With regards to it bein' admined, it'll be fairly strict, since blacklisting happens a lot on Dayz to admins that abuse powa.

    Anyhows, carry on gents.

Not trying to put you down or anything, but I honestly don't think you'll get too many to join a public hive server anymore....not until the standalone is released. Too many hackers, people jumping servers etc etc.

Was a big problem alright when joining public hives I'll admit. At some stage I might convert it to a private hive with some GOTCHA custom scripts. In any case, hoping for the best for now. Thanks for the reply man.

Joined there! by any chance are you part of the Sir. clan? or anyone viewing this forum as a matter of fact? May have killed you on Ovaron whoever had a humvee (sorry it was looking nice in that sunlight). By the way, Gotcha is nonsense , a tiny bit better that battleye but still crap, the best was to find hackers is to have DaRT on and to monitor it, Side chat is also good to call out hackers many people may have false claims but the odd time you get a legit claim!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7 Thuranad

Thats a good tip. I'll look into deploying DaRT. Currently I have 3 admins in any case, they have some experience in log checks and server administration in general. We've pissed about a lot with the insides of logs to see what they contain, so it's familiar territory in anycase. Hoping that the community will be a help with defeating hackers too :)

Pretty weird an SUV was repaired that quick. Server went live literally 30 minutes before my first post. Hahaha.

we had a bunch of german lads that got caught red handed of combat logging and then denying straight after which is such BS. they claimed they got bugged and couldn't move, so had to log out while they got pinned down.

so let it go out to be a warning too everyone combat loggin will get you banned. I think all of us here for the good fights be the outcome good or bad. Its not that hard to gear up and doesn't take that long. If ye get caught man up and take the bullet. You wouldn't like it if someone did it to you.
