Staying near London City airport, so Victoria Dock & Becton are nearly on doorstep.

Not that fussy about course difficulty. Just my indecision.

Been browsing this blog & keep changing my mind.

Victoria Dock and arrive by cable car! :)

Very tough to be putting in the effort. There must be a niggling though about the longterm viability with the core-team.

That would make a good arrival.

Mark Kirwan did Marlay in 15.13 yesterday, new all time course record.

Seems to be a few serious athletes in Marlay. David Gillick competes here regularly as well but if you watch the times some of them are right there

Wanted to start doing parkruns. Two questions; is it possible to walk until you've built up your fitness and are prams allowed? Thanks

Yes, yes and go for it. There is all types from the sub 20 runners to the over 60min walker. Longford had a special park walk for 6wks this year to get ppl started (same course, same time, same everything except speech before startl
Buggies allowed but please start near the back if you're not going to be legging it (in Longford some run faster than me pushing the buggy :-0 )

As KAGY already said, absolutely okay to walk. Prams aren't prohibited, but do be wary that some courses are over gravel or trail and may not suit prams, so maybe check the course route before heading along with one. For the course that are run on tarmac, prams are more than welcome.

Good luck, it's a great way to get in a bit of exercise and socialise.

If you are in dublin you could choose one which is all tarmac. My local one in poppintree regularly has 1 or 2 families with a baby in a buggy. They usually start at the back and after 1km the field spreads out and they would make their way through.

If you walk, ypu would have a tail walker for company

I see an increasing amount of fellas running with buggies (or run buggies to be more accurate). They even take on the hills and loose gravel. Great to see.

I am just waiting to see the first wheelchair user!

I'm seeing men with double running buggies and doing great times! Fair play to them.

I know that's in Dublin but I wouldn't be familiar with the area. Any reason(s) why it's not taking off? I don't mind a parkrun being small once you have a few regular runners. Are there other parkruns close by? What's the course like? Was there an event on that day (Clontarf?) I've found from my own local parkrun that it does take a while to build up a parkrun but you need a core set of runners who you know will be there most weeks.

I've a double buggy PB of 20:23 - the twins were battered and bruised after it! They're getting too heavy now so it's not gonna be repeated

God, that's heartbreaking! One a tourist too, so if they'd not turned up it'd have been just one person. Maybe we should arrange a mass visit there soon.

Gonna go there myself on Saturday n maybe every 2nd Saturday.

And in fairness to the lad, he obviously waited and ran all the way around with the local lady!

    Fair play to him!

Main reasons I would guess is that the local community have not embraced it. I was up there one Saturday and it is a decent enough course. You can do a good time there as it is fairly flat. The park itself is not as nice when compared to Collins or St Annes and given that it is in a rough area maybe people are reluctant to frequent it.

I see St.Anne's and Father Collins are joining forces for New Years Day with St.Anne's running as usual at 09:00 and Father Collins are going at 11:00.. And I'm coming off a 24 hour shift at 08:30 that morning, should be fun.

It would be mad to get 2 PB's on the one day :D

  • Registered Users Posts: 15,704 ✭✭✭✭RayCun

There's also a New Years double in Bushy and Tymon parkruns, 9.30 in Bushy and 11 in Tymon.

Looks like plenty of options for doubles in Dublin actually

I'm trying to decide what to do on the NYD double options locally. Surprisingly despite having had the option to run NYD doubles locally since 2013(I think) never actually done it, instead running one of the early parkruns then racing down the motorway to run a 10km for my second event of the day. That 10km often resulting in a bottle of wine and a bunch of points in the club championship that I've been winning for the last few years.

I'm a long way behind on winning the club championship this season and this years NYD early parkrun options are a bit further along the motorway than usual with the events switching the order they have previously done things in, so I'd need to drive a bit more speedily to get there in time. Unfortunately both the early options for me will be the flattish local courses, and the later options will involve hills. Whilst I want to do two parkruns in a day, I'm not sure I want to push a buggy up hills for the second one or if I'll be able to persuade the passenger to sit still.

    It's a dilemma. :)

Is it far to jog into Galway City from Knocknacarra?. Is it easy to find my way?. Ideally want to do 7 or 8 miles saturday as doing a h-m following weekend.

The entrance to the parkrun is a straight 2 mile run to prom...
Follow that for about 2.5 miles into city centre!
