Fear of getting old

Do you guys fear getting old? Do you ever imagine what you will look like in 20 -25 years time provided you 're still living? Do you feel sad looking back on photos in time of family or good friends or loved ones of yours who looked younger back then? Personally, it does upset me and I fear getting old big time.

    Thoughts?

Luminous beings are we, not this crude matter.

Time's like money: it's no fun unless you spend it, as me Ma always says.

If you're lucky enough to live for another 50 years, you will look back with nostalgia at things that won't happen for 25 years to come...

I get better looking as I get older :D

Why fear something you cannot change? Embrace and enjoy says I!

Sometimes it gets to me alright. I feel like I should be "living" more. It's a natural thought.
What I always tell myself though, is that I'm confusing "youth" with "fun".
You'll still have fun in 20 years time.
    Trust me on this ;)
    I'm 26 and VERY wise :p

That's funny. I'm 31 and I'm young! It's hard not to feel old when every day you're the oldest you've ever been. Luckily, age is bull poop.

    Life's one big adventure game.
You wouldn't want to play the start of the game and not finish it.
The best levels are generally at the end :)

Don't really care about getting older but I'd fear loss of independence as I'd become more frail in my old age.

Don't like the idea of getting elderly but all you can do is take really good care of your health, which I intend to do. :pac:

Twice your age isn't even that old nowadays.

As long as you keep describing your age like this, you'll never get old...

I don't fear getting old in terms of fading looks but I definately fear a loss of independance or incapacity to look after myself. Loosing my dignity due to ill health and having to be treated like a baby with nappies etc would be just unbearable, I fear having a stroke/head injury at anytime that could lead to a loss of dignity as I have a high risk of stroke.

I could never imagine myself getting quite old, I just have a strange feeling I'll never hit the ages 50+.

Anyway it wouldn't really bother me, I don't want to grow old to the point I die off naturally at a ripe old age. Not really me tbh. I'd rather just burn out many years before that and retain my youth, well obviously not too young like under 30 as I'd like to travel and experience many things in my life.

Age is never anything that bothered me. Mind you, I'm 21 :p but I just never got the whole fear of getting older thing. Or women who dread turning 30. 30 is so young FFS!

I'm an ugly cnut inside and out so I suppose I dont really care about my appearance getting much worse with age. In fact I'm looking forward to going grey, bald and fading from society...at least people will stop pointing to the freak on the street :)

Either way it's gonna happen, so I don't, but it would be nice to never grow old wouldn't it. :P

Imagine how Benjamin Button felt? He had to deal with that horror from a very young age. At least we get to deal with the horrible realisation of aging at an age where we are mature enough to process it. Imagine being a baby and having to deal with the indignity that is chronic incontinence......

Bill Cosby's definition of old age "15 years older than you are"

One great benefit of being old is you don't give a flying F*** what others think of you:P

Public or pubic? Like is it on your head waving noticeably to people or something!?

I am turning 30 this year and it actually scares me.
I have started comparing my accomplishments (or lack there of) with those of my friends and older sisters.

Biggest fear is being alone when im old or turning into some kinda cat lady that stinks of wee and i don't even like cats.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,494 ✭✭✭The_Gatsby

It's not so much fearing the symptoms that come with old age, such as ****ting yourself. I'm more scared of how things will turn out. Will I have a family or have a successful life. Will I regret anything when I'm old? I know people say you make your own destiny and all that ****e but sometimes I'm not sure I believe that. Some things you just can't help

Tell that to my single grey eyebrow hair and his not too distant weirdly long single grey nose hair!
