    Well hi,

So, we have all met somebody mildly famous and sure you can trip over Irish tv personalities when out and about in Dublin etc.

So it would be interesting to find out what famous people, that are not Irish, that you have not only met but have actually had a conversation with. So I don't mean shake hands, or got an autograph or saw in the distance etc etc. I can't say that I have myself so I would love to hear your experiences and what did you talk about and what did you make of them?

    Happy Christmas! :D

Bill Clinton... I was volunteering with the Civil Defense when he was in Dundalk and a few of us got to chat with him for a couple of minutes before he took to the stage for his speech. He seems like genuinely nice person and his love for Ireland is clear to see.

I met a few Borussia Dortmund players in the 1990s, difficult, to pick a single one out...maybe Lars Ricken, as we share the first name, and he still holds the record for the fastest scored goal of a player, coming off the bench in the Champions League, afaik

He's really only known on the skateboarding world, but Ed Templeton. Had a chat with him at a demo in Berlin in the summer. Sound man. Also in attendence were Kevin "Spanky" Long, Josh Harmony, and Nestor Judkins. All well known in skateboarding, but probably unknown outside.

Martin sheen held the door open for me in the Nuig library one afternoon. He was walking around for ages trying to get a seat during study week when all seats were taken by 9am! One student got up and gave Martin his seat, Martin was very appreciative and was not going to accept only the guy insisted! Total gentleman as previous poster said.

I've had a chat with Ant and Dec before, they were eating in a pub, Ant was sitting on the left and Dec was sitting on the right.

Lee Evans. Many many years ago when he was starting out, he did a gig in Dunlaoighre. I was there, backstage, and after his set, I had a short chat with him over a drink. It was the first time I ever saw him perform ( or even heard of him!)and he blew me away with his originality. Anyway, he was so mild mannered and unassuming, genuinely warm and appreciative of any compliments. He seemed genuinely concerned that people enjoyed what he did.

I once had a piss and a quick chat with Fredrick Aasbo, won't be known outside the motorsport world really. Actually he's not really famous unless your into motorsport.

Joe Strummer. Maybe not as famous as some of the folks mentioned here, but a million per cent cooler than any of them. Absolute gentleman, by the way.

Also when I lived in Berlin was renting a flat from a very well known TV news journalist. Well known in Germany of course, doubt many people here will know him though so I guess it doesn't count.

    Matt Lauer.

Seemingly he's very famous in America. He was filming a segment in Galway and I asked him what in the heck he was doing in Galway.

    Mel Gibson.

Twas on the set of Braveheart when I was a little kid. I didn't know who he was at the time but I had read somewhere or heard somewhere that battle scenes involving horses actually required the horses to die for real and I think I gave out to him angrily for killing the horses, so he demonstrated for me how the spears had a fake blood capsule in the head that would release on impact, and how the horses are trained to fall over.

    He was really nice :)
