    http://www.hornady.com/store/30-06-SPRINGFIELD-150-gr-GMX-superformance/
I recon thats the best on the market for deer.
Extreamly accurate, the round doesn't fragment but mushrooms. Its 95% copper. Federal do them as well but I forget what they are called. GMX is best of the Hornadys but most expensive but you pay for what you get. I won't use
nothing only GMX. Hornady even recomends them for big game.Hope that is of help. I think i'm only guy on this who uses them, hard to get hold of

    • Federal 180 gr Vital-Shok
    • Hornady 180 gr GR SST
    • Horandy 165 gr SSt
    • Fusion 180 gr

All of these shot very well, especially the Hornady 180gr, from my old 1:10 twist 30-06.

I tried the Superperformance, and the first shot was pretty much on the money, but follow up shots were walking up and right. I don't know if it was just the riflle or the ammo, but i experienced the same effects in my .308 with Superperformance.

use what ever shoots well in your rifle
if your accurate the deer will not be getting up

surprising to see people recommending hornady superformance
with lots of reports of their inconsistant accuracy

i use federal 180 gr, 25 a box , no problems as of yet

    customrifle,
What rifle/barrel/twist combo are you using?

When I bought my first 700 I was told that the 30-06's were originally designed to be fed 150gr. For a while, I shot them and they flew fine. Everyone told me that was the optimum mass projectile.

Then after messing with a few other grains, I discovered that my BDL and CDL love to be fed 180gr.

I shoot the Remmy Green Box and Superformance, both get the job done. I use the green box at the range and a bit of Hornady. The Superformance fine for the field. Both fly fast, and with a big target like a deer, you'll be fine with either.

    +1 to Federal, Winchester

Just don't feed it any of that commie stuff.:pac:

Thanks lads. Its a remy 700 cdl. I got it for a song and it has nothing done. If there was a box of ammo gone through it id be surprised. I was originally going to pull it apart and use the action for a build but have permissision sorted now so may aswell use it for what it was built for :). Im going to order boyds featherweight thumbhole stock for it and have one of Fergal Whites muzzle breaks so might get it threaded for that. Ill pick up box of the 165gr and 180gr sst at w end and see how they fly.

Hello Custom, I use 165 gr Hornady soft points in my 06 when stalking. I have tries 165 gr. SST's but do not like them as IMO they do too much damage to the carcass.
