Big Fat Quiz Of The Year 2012 - Sunday 30th December @ 9pm

    Always worth a post!
Jimmy Carr puts another panel of celebrities to the test as they battle it out to see who remembers most about 2012.

What did Prince Harry get up to in Vegas? Why were we all talking about pasties and sausage rolls? And how did Usain Bolt celebrate his amazing 200m win at the Olympics?

If you know the answer to all, some or even none of the above, then join us as a host of big names, including Jonathan Ross, Russell Howard, Jack Whitehall and James Corden, vie for the coveted Big Fat Quiz crown.

As usual, Jimmy will be calling on some seriously A-list question-setters, with Seth Rogen, Jack Black, Ricky Gervais, Will Ferrell, Quentin Tarantino and Sacha Baron Cohen all turning up to lend a helping hand in previous years.

Play along at home or just sit back and let the celebs do all the hard work, but don't miss The Big Fat Quiz of the Year.

Definitely a very love-em-or-hate-em list of guest panelists there.

I'm a fan of all 4... but any hope for a reunion of "The Goth Detectives" is fading as each year passes..

I imagine there'll be more than a few tax-cracks at the expense of Carr.

Really is. Howard and Corden on the same show...

So long as they don't get a guest like Jamie Oliver again and instead stick to comedians or at least people who are actually known to be funny.

And if Miranda Hart is on it again I'm not watching it. She essentially spent the whole show copying David Walliams. David Walliams could probably be alright depending who he's teamed with. I just hate when teams purposefully get answers wrong to be funny. Yeah, if you don't know the answer, say something funny. But to do it from the start and throughout is just annoying.

No Noel Fielding or Charlie Brooker makes me sad! :(

There's only 4 panelists listed, and there's typically 3 teams of 2.. so there's probably another 2 TBA.

I bet there will be at least one token Woman. Probably either Miranda Hart or Sarah Millican (or both). All the panel shows seem to doing this recently (QI in particular has suffered from having unfunny panellists because of an attempt to have gender balance)

James Corden and Russell Howard sounds good, but Jack Whitehall? I dunno i just prefer his character in fresh meat to the actual him

He was great on the Big Fat Quiz of The Nineties, I thought.

Hopefully Claudia Winkleman, she's always pretty funny on them.

I actually thought his name was the standout. Posh humour is fantastic. :P

Jack Whitehall is incredibly witty to be fair..

.. he stole the show on The Big Fat Quiz Of The 90's, is the star standout on Fresh Meat and A League Of Their Own's decision to make him a team regular instead of Georgie "ohhh.. I'm a short drunk driver!" Thompson was the best decision they've ever made.

Regarding "comediennes" on it - I like Sarah Millican, but not many others.

EDIT: From Twitter, it appears it's being filmed tomorrow.. so we'll probably know the other panelists then.

Can't stand either - Miranda is not funny and Walliams just completly overdoes the camp bit. Funny once maybe but not for 2 hours or whole career :(

Jo Brand is pretty funny, would like to see her on it. Claudia Winkleman is not one bit funny so I hope we don't see her anyway.

I loved Jack Whitehall on HIGNFY the other week so I think he'll be good, but James Corden wrecks my head and Russell Howard is rubbish on panel shows, although I like him on Good News.

I would bet money on the insufferable flavour of the week Sarah Millican being one of the other guests, so you can all look forward to jokes about cake and knickers

There'll never be a year as good as 2006

He does thrive on Good News alright..

.. but could be worse - they could have went with Andy "every punchline finishes with inflection" Parsons!

Never liked Jack Whitehall and his comments on the Keane departure and Ireland at the 2002 WC annoyed me due to their lack of humour and ignorance.

    At 2:36...

I love Jack Whitehall. He's great on A League Of Their Own. Love James Cordon too but I can't stand Jonathan Ross. He's grand when he's interviewing people but I don't think he's that funny. Looking forward to the show now.

Ireland weren't knocked out of the tournament in the first round. Ireland have never been knocked out of a World Cup in the first round in fact.

A lot of big nations were knocked out of that tournament early like France, Portugal and Argentina and for Ireland to advance to the last 16 and go out on penalties to Spain - without the guy who was far and away our best player and talisman - was not a bad performance whatsoever.

His comment wasn't funny and was plain ignorant.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 44,295 ✭✭✭✭Basq

    ^

Ah c'mon - he's a comedian and his comment was made in jest...

.. don't take it to heart tbh!

Since when did we take comedian's so seriously? Jesus.. if everyone took Bill Hicks seriously, he'd have been locked up!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,640 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

Let's not speak of a legend like Hicks in the company of Jack Whitehall. Hicks could provide cutting comments with wit and intelligence at the heart of them. Whitehall cannot.

Jimmy Carr can at least portray himself in a pompous manner and be clever about it. This chap reminds me of a guy whose friends at college - the majority of them probably women who fancy him - tell him he's hilarious and he goes and believes them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,854 ✭✭✭lertsnim

tell him he's hilarious and he goes and believes them.

TV people must believe them too as he is always on something.

Not a fan of Whitehall either, he is just terrible on A League Of Their Own. Dara O'Briain would be a good presenter IMO.

I have to disagree, he has been excellent since he was made a permanent fixture on that show.

And as I said earlier, he was great on the recent 'Big Fat Quiz of the Nineties', so it makes sense to bring him back.

Ah Skid, I am disappoint. He tries way too hard to be funny. He knows nothing about sport so he shouldn't be on that show, Freddy Flintoff is funnier and he ain't no comedian.

Really love this show. Thought the 80's, 90's and 00's were brilliant. Looking forward to it

Ah well, nothing personal :)I think he just adds a lot to the general banter of that show (and the Big Fat Quiz). His lack of knowledge of Sport is part of his charm. I loved it when he bet the others in the Darts challenge.

Ain't that the truth - especially regarding Jack Whitehall !

To be fair, Jack Whitehall is more knowledgable than Georgie "if it ain't F1, I don't have a notion!" Thompson.

Not much chance of getting rid of Ross either unless he gets bored with it as it is his production company that makes it

Richard Ayoade and Gabby Logan are/were the other two panellists. Gabby is not that funny, but I glad it is not Miranda Hart or Sarah Millican. I do not find Ayoade to be that funny, but he has his moments on these shows. Still looking forward to the show though, always a good laugh. Hope to see a return for Mr. Blobby.

You wouldn't call her that if you'd ever watched the F1 on Sky.

Noel Fielding and Russel Brand did that brilliantly one year (and ended up winning due to being given 25 points or something near the end). Since then it seems like everyone tries to copy it but fail miserably. They were together again the next year but didnt try copy it, I imagine they knew they couldnt do any better so left it alone. Shame others dont think the same way and try to copy it.

I'm hoping for some good teamings this year. The last two or three years havent been up to much in that regard. Always (at least) one team that makes you wonder who thought they worked well together.

Jack is pretty funny, but Richard and whatserface are the annual cringy, annoying team.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 241 ✭✭shoos

That Gabby woman is making me cringe terribly :( doesn't have the slightest bit of humour.

Jack Whitehall is making up for it though, he's gas!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,914 ✭✭✭✭Penn

    Gabby Logan?

What, was every other comedian in the world busy?

Jesus, I know they have to have a woman on it, but come on...

Awful so far anyway from the rest of them. Richard Ayoade is the only thing keeping me watching.
