Yeah, life for kids is tough enough without adults spinning them bullsh!t fabrications like Santa and religion and so forth.

Fair play to her I say. She got balls, and I like balls!

Yeah. You don't see many wars started in the name of Santa. I guess tabloid wars are pretty much the only ones.

also if your bold santa leaves you coal....he doesnt damn your soul to eternal hell fire. Much nicer option IMO

obviously, but im not going to be the one to tell little suzie and billie that the nice man that gives them lovely pressies is a fake and life sucks and enjoy life now cause in a few years it will all be bills and soggy cornflakes until you DIE. sometimes its ok to have a little fantasy in life.

You think she was right to tell five year olds that Santa wasn't real?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 763 ✭✭✭Lucy and Harry

I would sue her for hurt and pain caused to a minor. Then buy lots of toys out of it and say see there is a Santa...

Parents should tell the kids that Santa is real, he just never left presents for their teacher cos she's a c*nt.

As a parent of a 5 yr old, I know how much trust they place in what their teacher tells them.
I also know how much excitement they get out of the whole Christmas/Santa thing.
Seems a very nasty and petty thing to do.

Sounds a bit over the top though.

If anything she should have just said that she didn't believe in Santa.

I don't think it is useful or valuable to tell kids about Santa anyway. But that's another thing to discuss and it should be left to the autonomy of parents.

Its a lie and will scar people for life. I think he had said something like that in a thread once and would not forgive his parents for that lie and the one on religon. Everyone should think like him

Edit not what I think. Christmas is better to see the magic in childrens eyes at christmas

So you'd have your kids not believe in Santa and in turn they'd tell other kids and wreck their Christmas?

Of course she was right to do it.

If kids were led to believe something and the bubble burst of course they will be hurt. If they were never spoon fed the santa crap in the first place and simply told that family and people who love them give them presents for the new year would that not fulfil the same function and very importantly not be a complete lie.

I also disagree with the religious aspect of "christmas". I think the state should abandon the christamas festival and instead just introduce a "winter festival" with higlight being the winter solstice which is when the new year really starts from a cosmological perspective.

Its the magic of christmas let people have it we need it. I can tell you if someone told my nieces and nephews at 5 I would not be a happy camper (except the parents its there porogrative)

Edit: though it seems people are told earlier and earlier now

Ah Sean, seriously? Did you ever believe in Santa? Do you still hold it against your parents that they with held the truth until you were 10/11?

Hmmm, I don't know. I once wrote a letter to Santa and got a Sega Megadrive. I prayed for ****ing years and got nothing. I know which I'd rather believe.

I think every kid should believe in Santa, learning that Santa is not real is a part of growing up, and the disappointment and how to handle it is something they need to learn.

But not at 5 years old!! What a beeyatch!! If she did that to my kid I would be hopping mad!! Parents go to a lot of effort to make Xmas special for their kids and to take that away from them is wrong!

What an evil old trout- what gives her the right to ruin one of the most innocent and fun parts of childhood? She must have a crappy pathetic life if she felt the need to do that to a bunch of innocent kids.

Santa brings hope and joy and greed - all the good qualities. I assume the teacher will refuse to take her Christmas holidays. Perhaps not. That would be taking a principled stance too far.

    Mother of god...
There is nothing wrong with a bit of magic for kids at christmas... they aren't damaged by it and there is nothing better than the excitment of kids in the days leading up to the 25th, it truly is a wonderfult time for children..
In time they'll learn the truth but the memories remain of all those magic christmas mornings..

I really would find it very hard not to punch that teacher in the face, repeatadly, for a very long time.

I'd argue that its yourself that is "damaged" in some way. I'l have to say that when I realised there was no santa I was overwhelemed with gratitude towards my parents for the 10 years of magic that they went out of their way to create for me and my sisters... If you end up hurt by the experience then there may well be deeper issues that need resolving.

Or she could have just shut the **** up.

And gotten another job if she hates kids that much.

Also, I pity your kids. What's Christmas for a 5 year old without Santa and presents.

At least there's tangible proof the presents exist.

I believe that Christmas isn't about Santa, Frosty the Snowman or any of these other trappings, but about a real living man Jesus who came to save the world from the penalty of sin (Matthew 1:21).

So my view of Christmas is based on Jesus. When I was younger it was based on mere material things rather than the truth. Sharing gifts in honour of the greatest gift to mankind is a good thing but the right understanding is important.

I don't have kids but I hope to. I never said no presents, but certainly no Santa.

I don't think Santa is what Christmas is about. There's no need to be so abusive about people not wanting to tell their kids about Santa.

    It's actually quite intolerant.
