Good idea, wonder how it'll play out....I was going to suggest something similar last week but only cars 200bhp + allowed, were not far off it with the first few cars...:)

Anyone in the uk import thread knows I need to sell this as the new one's arrived:o

0806 Seems to be out of stock at GB at the moment, anywhere else sell it for similar price? Also for anyone with one hardwired via acc, does it loose settings once powered off or do they all stick?

Thinking of getting a Street Guardian SG9665GC. Anyone have experience with those?

I'm looking to get something good quality and with little messing around as it needs to pass the Mrs. test.

Was reading good reviews about them.
Actually only looked at pricing last night.

looks decent enough but I wouldn't be a fan of a plug in GPS aerial, it just seems like more bits & wires that need hiding away.
Also, the power cable, appears to have a transformer box mid length in the actual cable itself!, again, not ideal if you simply want to tuck the cable under some trim. most other dash cam power cables house the transformer in the cigarette plug itself, not outside along the length of cable.

    Just some things to consider.

I picked up one of these last week to have as a spare/travelling dash cam (I rent a lot of cars in the U.K. and the 2 mini's I have in my car are not easily removable) and I have to say it's an excellent camera. It's a non E-Prance version of the G1W, and I was thinking it mightn't be as good as the more expensive G1W's, but I have to say I'm really impressed with it (it's better at reading number plates of oncoming cars than my mini 0806). The sound recording isn't great, but that doesn't bother me, the picture is excellent for the price paid (all in worked out at €41). big plus for me was the suction mount so I can put it in a rental for a day or 2, and remove & repeat.

a sample from the DoLotu G1W

Whatever camera I get I won't be using the bundled lower supply.

OK, I bit the bullet and ordered the Street Guardian SG9665GC from HiNiko here in Ireland. Car is in the garage at the moment, but will hopefully be up and running with the dash cam by next weekend or so.

    Hi folks,
Getting bit frustrated now with my 806 . The power to the camera is not consistent. Yesterday was fine but today camera in a boot loop. Powers on, battery not charging. Switches off, then powers on again.. Not sure if it's a power issue or camera issue. Plugged my phone into the power and it doesn't charge my phone. What power should be in the cable?

It's hardwired to switched power at the back of my double din unit. Maybe there lies the problem?
    Cheers,
    Mick

I usually format the card and works fine afterwards. There was firmware update in january if that doesn't fix it.

Does it have to have an adverts ad? Given the stupid time wasters that they attract it seeks counterintuitive

I bought a transcend DrivePro200 and just went for a spin. Pretty good purchase. Very good clarity. I did wonder how I would tidy the cable away but managed to put it into the linings around the screen and door frames.

After following this thread for a few months I was very interested in the DrivePro 220, it should be similar to the 200. It's got a good price and from the videos on Trascend's website the quality seems decent.

How is it during nighttime? Does it record reg. plates? It seems that the reflecting material on plates plus your own headlights might hide the numbers. I saw this on the few videos that are online.

After being almost hit by a car in a rush that ran a red light, didn't yield to me and fled away this morning taking illegal turns, I'm seriously considering getting a dashcam.

In fairness I'd say most dash cams would struggle at night to read reg plates. With the brightness of oncoming headlights alone, the camera would be already struggling to adjust the light levels in the whole of the field of view (dark vs light), so the little space between 2 bright (brightest in the field of view) headlights would just be glared out.

Lots and lots of service history with all the important / expensive maintenance done only a few thousand miles ago. Tested. A lot cheaper than you might think!

    Have a look:

I asked a local auto electrician about getting a dash cam fitted recently and he quoted €320. He said it's a good cam but out of stock at the moment so he'll have to order it in (I doubt he actually keeps any stock of it, and actually just orders as he needs).

But anyway, without giving the make/model of the cam he said it was a very good camera and that it's used with 'Transport for London' and that in itself is it's selling point.

From googling, all i can find is this, and i think this would fit in with his pricing approach:

    http://www.novusauto.com/Products/Single-Lens-Camera/Silver-100T-p118c132c82.html

But can't seem to locate footage of it by searching Youtube of such. Was wondering if anyone thinks it looks decent? or if I'd be better off getting my own one and getting it fitted? If so, anyone able to recommend anything decent? I know dash cams aren't exactly amazing cameras, but i would like something with a decent ISO range for night time recording if possible. There's a lot of conflicting advice.

My 402G gives really good night footage and the fitted price from Halfords would be a good €100 or more cheaper than what you're being asked for.

I have the car with the mechanic at the minute and the dash cam is in it, but I'll try get some footage off it next week and post here. Plenty online as well obviously.
