Sorry if this has been done already but its only 40 days away!
    Countdown Clock

    What do you guys think?

For me, I believed it until I heard that the Mayans didn't account for the leap year....meaning the world should have ended years ago!

That's why I'm offering apocalypse insurance, pm for details. :D

I think something might happen....but it wont be anything serious,...no natural disasters or anything...

    What do you think?

Oh sorry, was this discussed recently? feel free to lock if so,

Yeah I'd say there could be some solar storms...they were predicted to peak in 2012...and they've already done some damage, so I'd expect more to come

Ugh, not this crap again. The world doesn't end on December 31st every year, this is exactly the same thing. The Mayan Long Count calendar has rolled over several times in the past...

    1.0.0.0.0 November 13, 2720 BCE
    2.0.0.0.0 February 16, 2325 BCE
    3.0.0.0.0 May 21, 1931 BCE
    4.0.0.0.0 August 23, 1537 BCE
    5.0.0.0.0 November 26, 1143 BCE
    6.0.0.0.0 February 28, 748 BCE
    7.0.0.0.0 June 3, 354 BCE
    8.0.0.0.0 September 5, 41 CE
    9.0.0.0.0 December 9, 435
    10.0.0.0.0 March 13, 830
    11.0.0.0.0 June 15, 1224
    12.0.0.0.0 September 18, 1618
    13.0.0.0.0 December 21, 2012
    14.0.0.0.0 March 26, 2407
    15.0.0.0.0 June 28, 2801
    16.0.0.0.0 October 1, 3195

If this crap was true then we should have had several apocalypses by now.

I can't believe people swallow the fact that the Mayan people, or anyone for that matter could pin point the day of the apocalypse.

Sick of arguing with people over the science that disproves it. Yet my father in law is still organising an end of the world party.

    People are stupid.

If only, end of the world. What a good thing. I remember talking to my boss about it. He never heard of it. He had a good year and could only think of how it was to go out on a high.

Which in itself tells you how likely it would ever happen.

Hey hold on there OP, you don't get to make fun if the creduloids with the rest of us when you believed it despite all evidence to the contrary until you we're convinced by ' the leap year argument' ?? And you still think something might happen??

That's like your kid laughing at all the 'stupid' kids who still believe Santa Claus despite he fact that your kid still believes in the Easter Bunny and the Tooth Fairy.

All of this "End Of The World" bull**** is beginning to remind me of "The Boy Who Cried Wolf". Seriously, how many dates are there in the past where the world (as we know it!:D) was "supposed:rolleyes:" to be coming to an end and transpired to be a hoax?

I can remember a few dates in my lifetime thus far which were predicted to be apocalyptic:
    • July, 1999: A man of terror was supposed to come down and destroy the world. From what I gathered at the time, it was supposed to be Saddam Hussein.
    • Also in the summer of 1999: People began to speculate that the solar eclipse was going to end the world. It may very well bring darkness. But, so does night time and that has battered the **** out of the Earth.
    • Anytime in 2006: A book called "The Bible Code" by Michael Drosnin was released which apparently contained hidden messages for the end of the world either in 2006 or 2010. The hidden messages were supposedly revealed with an equal letter skip within The Torah. Then again, the documentary also managed to find similar messages using the same technique in the book Moby Dick. It all boils down to the fact that if one tries hard enough to find hidden messages in a book, they will find any old drivel.
    • May of this year: Rumors went around that the rapture was going to occur. I saw it on an After Hours thread I think.
    Either-way, I'm still here!;)

The phrase "end of the world" is largely open to interpretation. For me, it is the total destruction of life (plants, animals, bacteria.....EVERYTHING) from Earth as well as the planet itself. What makes the 21st of December so special that this will happen?

    I am 99.99999999999999% sure that it won't.

Another couple of dates I remember were 5th May 2000 (planetary realignment causing a pole shift) and 6th June 2006 (the "666" thing).

The Sun is estimated to be only half way through its lifecycle. If any impending outside threat were to end the human race, surely new life would form on the planet in the aftermath.
