Kind of needs its own thread now! :D Confirmed today, Wicked UK and Ireland tour to begin in September 2013. Would expect it to be at the CGT around Xmas/early 2014.

By then I might be ready to see the show again...and kinda fitting that Wicked #10 is in Dublin. Will be interested to see how much they scale back the touring production.

Interesting to read all the chatter about who people want to play Elphaba on the tour.
Top 3 from what I've read are Rachel Tucker (though why she'd want to after 2 and a half years playing it in London and with a baby on the way too, can't really see it happening but who knows!),
Amanda Coutts (currently in the Starlight Express tour and former Killer Queen) and Sabrina Aloeuche (who I think auditioned to play Elphaba in the current cast but what chance had anyone against Louise Dearman once she decided she wanted the role?).

I have a friend who made it to final 3 for Glinda last year, keeping everything crossed she gets in the tour, even as cover.

Your friend isn't Nicola Brazil, is it? I know she was one of the final 3, I think she'd have got it only Gina Beck (who is amazing) beat her to it!

No it's not. I'll tell you who she is if she makes the tour ;) Was last seen over here in the Sound of Music tour.

Really looking forward to Wicked coming over here.

From what I've read, the US touring versions aren't that different, so hopefully this one isn't either!

Seen the show a few times, and the first cast I saw were Alexia Khadime (Elphaba) and Dianne Pilkington (Galinda) and I'd LOVE it if one or both of them did the tour. Nothing concrete as to who's going to make the cast, apparently they've not auditioned anyone yet.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 398 ✭✭d@rk l0rd

Alexia is about to start Book of Mormon in London so she won't be doing the tour. I can't really see Dianne doing it either, she's about to have a baby soon.

Oh didnt know Dianne was pregnant! Knew about Alexia though. Knew it was unlikely they'd be doing it, looking.forward to seeing who is cast though!

It seems to have changed since though and now just redirects to the Apollo Victoria dates.

The official tour website (http://www.wickedtour.co.uk/reviews.asp?id=01wkdT) does confirm that the UK & Ireland tour premieres in Manchester in September – so it'll be a while yet before it gets to Ireland!

So it does. That's weird. Well the dates for Bord Gais were 27th November - 18th January and tickets were going on sale on the 25th of this month.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 706 ✭✭✭Ilovelucy

That doesn't show any Dublin shows.

It did before. It's been changed since the link was posted.

Ticketmaster probably removed the link as it hasn't been officially announced yet what dates Wicked will be at the Grand Canal Theatre.

Irishtimes saying 27th November to January 18th 2014. Tkts on sale 25th January

Same dates as Ticketmaster posted. Exciting that we know the dates at last even if it is nearly a year away!

Don't think there'll be too much rush to get these. It's running for nearly two months & is a year away

I have to say I think it will be a very big seller, outdoing Phantom and Oliver and possibly even Lion King. It has a massive fan base with a lot of Irish fans. Scenes like Defying Gravity and No Good Deed are going to look amazing in the GCT. I can't wait.

I'm undecided between thinking it will either get sold out or that it won't do so well over here!

I've seen it abroad a few times and I LOVE it (my favourite musical). But I'm not sure I'd want to see it in GCT :/ I'm always afraid the traveling cast won't do it justice and not sure if the stage in GCT is big enough for it? I'm afraid if I go that it might sully the perfect image I already have of it in my head :P

I don't know if a lot of die hard fans might feel the same as me or not. Most of their target audience have probably already seen it and I don't think older generations will be as keen on it compared to the classics. Also it's not one particularly for kids like the likes of the lion king, so that's another group of buyers ruled out. I'm thinking it might not do so well here :/

I think it will be really popular and won't be taking any chances. l'll be poised to buy the day they are released once I have sold a kidney to pay for them.. The travelling version of Phantom was fantastic so I think people aren't put off by touring companies anymore really. I know a lot of people who have been to London to see it and who I think will definitely see it on home soil. Any word on the cast I wonder? Need a good set of pipes for Elphaba...

Bought tickets today for December with the Bord Gais code- they were €65 each with a €5.95 booking fee. Sitting in Row D downstairs. Can't wait! Saw this on Broadway a few years back and was blown away. Between this and the Lion King I've got lot to look forward to this year :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,357 ✭✭✭✭leahyl

I've never seen this show but I've heard it's brilliant so really looking forward to going!! Have never been to BGET either so very excited about that also!:D

Excellent, got 4 tickets this morning - now to wait nearly a year to see it :(

I bought the Soundtrack CD about 3 years before seeing the show. Got to see it in New York, loved it. Looking forward to see it here on the auld sod.

I'm assuming all the seats in the theatre are pretty good? Once I get some in the stalls I should be ok right?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 13,420 ✭✭✭✭athtrasna

I would try to get as central as you can. Wicked is a show that benefits from being able to see the whole stage. My tickets are in the middle of Row M which I find perfect for seeing musicals. Don't sit too close to the stage or again you will miss out on some stuff

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,639 ✭✭✭Miss Lockhart

Do you usually find it better to just phone Ticketmaster to get the seats you want?

I'm really fed up with not being able to choose seats on the Ticketmaster website. I can sort of understand for Wicked (they say the reason the choose on seats function may not be used is during times of high demand when shows are expected to sell out fast) but this is the case for 99% of things on Ticketmaster even when there's no hope of selling out.

I phoned them as I really wanted these seats, some venues use the choose your seat function but I've never seen it for the Grand canal theatre.

Once you're in the stalls you'll be fine.

Sorry but for Wicked you won't be. They use the full stage and the proscenium arch. No point in spending the same money for a mediocre seat as a good one

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 398 ✭✭d@rk l0rd

Yeah, if you're booking for Wicked in London via Ticketmaster you can choose your seat on the interactive map. No such function for the Grand Canal Theatre so if there's a specific seat you want or area then you need to ring them or even better save yourself their outrageous €6 per ticket "service charge" and go to the box office in person.

I've only seen Wicked in London and from the front row stalls as I get the £27.50 day seats and the view is fine, however it is a massive show and probably best seen, especially if for the first time from a bit further back in the stalls or the front of the circle.

The only annoying thing about sitting further back in the stalls is the distraction of people constantly going to the toilet mid show as the doors are in the middle of the stalls. The GCT don't allow you to bring your drinks in so people end up downing them before going in!

I didn't think the tickets would sell so well since it's almost a year in advance. Went to purchase my tickets today, I like seats in the stalls and they were nearly all gone for the Saturday and Sunday matinees. I ended up getting Row M, is that good? On some days there were only about five seats left in the stalls!

Row M is my favourite row in the theatre, far enough back to take in the full stage, close enough to see clearly.

I wonder who the cast will be? I would love it if Rachel Tucker would play Elphaba! But I guess she won't.

She had a baby boy in the last few weeks so I seriously doubt it.

Just got my tickets online there. The choose-your-own-seat map was available for the dates I wanted and most of the theatre was still available on those days.

Really looking forward to it now!

Some casting announced for the tour:

Elphaba will be played by previous London stand-by Elphaba Nikki Davis-Jones. She is amazing in the role so if you haven't booked already then do it!

Glinda will be played by Emily Tierney. She played Glinda in the Wizard of Oz when it was on at the Palladium.

Fiyero will be played by Liam Doyle. Not so sure about this. He played Link Larkin in the previous Hairspray tour. Very baby-faced for a rogue-ish bad-boy character.

Boq will be played by George Ure who previously played the role in London.

It's all looking very good casting-wise so far. :)

Nikki Davis-Jones is spectacular in videos anyway, I'm thrilled she has the role. Liam Doyle I (presumably) saw as Link and I didn't have any problems with his performance, though the role itself doesn't really give any opportunities to shine. Neither does Fiyero I suppose for the most part. George Ure I've seen live, and he's good in the role, as you'd expect for someone with that much practice.

Now do we wait for a celebrity wizard? If a member of a boyband isn't playing Fiyero we're left with few standard novelty casting decisions. Nessarose by a B-lister? I'm being cynical of course, but the casting so far is great.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 398 ✭✭d@rk l0rd

Interestingly the Wizard and Dr. Dillamond are being played by the same person, Dale Rapley (I've never heard of him), Nessarose is being played by Carina Gillespie (again never heard of her) and Madame Morrible will be played by Marilyn Cutts.
