    44 over the weekend spent mostly at 145 / 150 on the M4, M6, M7, M8 and M9.

I noticed if I slowed to 120 I could get it up to 49/50 and better if I slowed more, but I have places to get to !

42.9 is the avg including town driving but not much of it.

Honda integra i.8 R DC2. Around the 30 MPG* mark as an average taking it easy of course. Long runs edging towards the 40 mark(and slightly over, but people never believe me :D). Driving "enthusiastically" = very loud fuel leak. Like 15-20 Mpg. Halve that on a trackday(Ask GaryITR :)).

Those figures are for me on my own in the car, filling up at the start, going back to same garage and filling to the brim and noting the diffs(used to do the Dublin Galway run a fair bit in the past). They seem sensitive to extra weight, so add a normal sized person and the gauge drops more quickly. Not by much but noticeable on a long run. Engines vary on them too. Some are looser and more eager to rev, some are tighter, less revvy. Mine's the latter.

*I'm old, litres per KM's confuse me. :o:)

Many worry about Artificial Intelligence. I worry far more about Organic Idiocy.

Oddly my car has gotten 3mpg better on my commute since I put a new battery in at the weekend. I always do the exact same drive with cruise control on all the way. Weird.
    That's 46mpg now :D

I'll get above that if I take it a bit easier. I can hit 24mpg without driving it like a 198 year old.

The moral of the story is..... buy a bigger engine BMW!!

The twin turbo is fun too.

Yeah but when your auto is stuck on 3rd gear at most times due to traffic and small distances its a right alcoholic pig with an insatiable craving for the black juice

Still averaging 59ish MPG on a 600 mile per week commute.

I've had an 07 R56 Mini Cooper S for a few months now. Averages an indicated 33.7 mpg, never bothered to work it out properly as I'm not that bothered.

I averaged 41mpg on the way up and down to the Cork match in Dublin on Sunday (Come on you Rebels!!! :D)

    interesting

bmw 5 series 2.0d auto mainly motorway - run flats 43mpg-44mpg.

changed to standard tyres - mpg moves to 46-47mpg

mpg reset each week and av 800 miles done per week - changed tyres about 6 weeks ago and consistent at 46-47mpg (as above, too old for the l/100km :) )

    @ Wibbs and Jesus
the tool you need enter MPG out comes l/100 or visa versa

    http://www.unitjuggler.com/convert-fuelconsumption-from-mpgimperial-to-lper100km.

Me also too old but do so much driving each year in mainland Europe so I often need to be able to convert easily

I always prefer Miles per gallon or kilometers per kilometer to me more logical but for some stupid reason l/100km is the way they do it in EU

NB. a UK gallon is 4.55 liters not 4.5 as many quote and this makes a interesting difference when calculating MPG

I have some friends who do adding hydrogen to the fuel mix or heating the fuel and other gizmos but so far no interesting results that prove MPG is up or down .Best I can figure is the ROI fuel is variable in quality between winter fuel and summer fuel and other variables that even without gizmos the fuel figures can vary by even more than ~5% up and down depending which fuel mix you got that week

I worked out last night after filling the tank I'm getting 33mpg from a 1.4 petrol focus. Trip computer says 8.1l/100km. Very disappointed by the MPG. Not fun when your doing 20k+ km a year

That is very poor alright Souls.

Unless you're caning it on a daily basis?

37.2 mpg 7.58/100K average over the last 20,000 miles, 2000 1.6 Avensis, mostly urban, can get 45mpg out of town if I take it fairly handy.

Rebuilding the calipers now (one of 'em was a bit stuck) so will see if it improves matters.

It does 40km or so a day on the motorway which doesn't help and then another 200 or so at the weekend on the motorway. I have brought it down from an indicated 8.9/100 at the start of the summer. Trying to use the bike more at the moment to really help my overall mpg :p

    99 Golf 1.9TDI 90BHP 80% National roads 20% Motorway - 54MPG
    09 Passat 2.0TDI 140BHP 65% National roads 35% Motorway - 46MPG
Calculated from fills as the ECU is more(very) optimistic.

My 1998 fiat bravo 1.4 SX is about ~33MPG on fast 120k motor way and mixed town and national roads .The Bravo is heavy car in Kilo terms and the engine and gear box matching isn't so good so engine RPM is high even in 5th gear .

I don't cane it and am fairly light right footed but acceleration events like traffic lights and sitting the lights eat fuel.

A lot of people work of these electronic machines and quote them and they are often way out .My measuring is over time 1000 or 2000 kilometers and per tank fill to the brim to confirm so its pretty accurate .

Check if your CAT is stuffed driving through a large puddle the cold water shock to the CAT can kill the CAT and block the exhaust and make MPG go much higher .Failing that check emissions in case the oxygen sensor is stuffed or the tuning is wrong .Look for oil burning in case compression is gone .Look for braking issues stuck brake pads and wheel bearing not good .Check oil condition in case of head gasket issues or piston oil blow back and air filters .
If nothing is found to be wrong then its is possible its the real MPG of the car

You didn't say the year and mileage the car as a old ~1995 car with ~300,000 kilometers will tend to use lot more fuel from wear and tear

A newwer car of ~2007 era i would expect it to be more closer ~40MPG for that type of driving .

    04 Volvo S80 2.0T Petrol

9.6 l/100km (29.4 mpg) motorway driving, I've gotten higher but OBC reading only.
    10.9 l/100km (25.9 mpg) mixed.

I don't really want to know what the city driving returns tbh. I suspect 18 or so mpg.

I get around 39-40mpg in my Mk1 1.4 Focus with very similar usage to yours. 50km a day mainly on the M50 and then 200km back home and up again on the motorway at the weekend.

Souls, have you checked your tyre pressure?

I was only getting 36.5 MPG when one of the lads reminded me to check the tyres and sure enough they were well down. I'm since getting 39/40 with that modification alone.

Either that trip computer is reading way over, that car is surprisingly economical, or you aint drivin her right! :P

Well I've still got less than 1,500km on the clock so I've been trying to avoid putting to much of a load on the engine so far, generally keeping it below 4,000 RPM. Will report back in a while and see how things are going then

+1 to checking the tyre pressure - my lowest MPG ever was just under 35 which immediately jumped out to me as it was way out of sync with what I'd being getting before - checked the tyres and noticed they were all well down, pumped them back up and back to 39-40mph on my next tank.

I did a 148km trip from castlegregory( near tralee) to pallasgreen(halfway between Limerick and Tipperary) and got 6.6l per 100km....in a MKV GTI.

It was late so traffic was light and I was driving quite as aggressively as normal or driving as one might normally drive a GTI,

The route was mainly 100km/h good quality road but I still had to go through Tralee, Abbeyfeale, Newcastle West and Adare.

That works out at about 42mpg, which I'm quite proud of, but I don't quite enjoy furel conservation driving enough to keep it up:)
